I agree with what you said here, Outriders intro is godawful, but once you start getting your powers, it gets more satisfying to play and pretty fun. However, the main problem I see with the game is that it’s a poorman’s Destiny 2 clone, when Destiny 2 is already free (even the menus are copypasted, you can’t make this up).
On it’s own, It also reminds me of the first Borderlands game; some very interesting ideas but ultimately lack of development budget, lackluster world design and (from the looks of the demo) unfinished and extremely overpriced for what essentially looks like a 30-40$ game.
I can see the sequel being good if this one sells well and they improve on what it’s already there (similar to, again, BL1 and it’s transition to BL2), but as it is, it’s just decent at best
I really hoped to get at least 80-100h per char out of the game.
I hoped for:
20-40h first campaign (i did play a few hours at release at a friends pc, it did take me around 20h to get to the “moon level” with low gravity, i take my time when i am playing)
20h or so second campaign run in tvhm in the low mayhem levels to 65.
30h first time the dlcs and then some farming up to mayhem 10. As i stated, i will not buy items, or loot boxes from mayhem 10, if i not currently playing this mode and killing mobs there. Feels just like cheating to me^^
But i dont get how you can become lvl 65 like you stated by only doing one time the campaign. I did read that often people are lvl 30-35 when they finish the campaign. And 65 when doing all side quests + dlc content. Or doing the campaign a second time.
And in general just to be clear, it is really that easy to farm mayhem 10 at 65 with the harder modifers or is there at least some challenge for some time?
EDIT: And are speed runs interesting and fun in this game? (campaign or take down/bosses etc.) I got at least 50h in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal just out of speedrunning the campaign and missions. Because there was a lot of fun in it.
I tried the outriders demo and deleted it right after finishing it, I never felt that engaged by the gun play, abilities, loot, story or visuals. It felt kinda genetic to me and saw no reason to want to continue playing it at all.
I would say it takes about 30 to 40 hours to reach lv65 M10 level of power. But don’t think the challenge isn’t there anymore. COV slaughter is still a bastard to get through (too many badasses with rocket launchers), same with the COV proving grounds, the takedowns are still challenging, especially at True Takedown Mode, and there’s s new raid boss coming on April that promises another tough fight for the usual goodies.
Medium - Freeze tag for sheer annoyance. Hard - Proximity beam (I thing that’s the name) because if melee enemies get too close each will start depleting your health, at least Chain Gang is avoidable. Very Hard - Rogue Lite for obvious reasons, no Fight for your Life mode
Personally I hope not, M10 has already absurd levels for health multipliers for enemies, coupling that with modifiers, it makes for a slog, rather than a challenge. But I do wish that Gearbox could extent the True Takedown difficulty modifiers from the takedown maps into the rest of the game, to me that’s Mayhem done correctly.
There’s clearly legendaries items within the game that feel more ‘legendary’ than others, but are still classed as the same, so I don’t think that will happen.
Until you get to level 65, pretty much every piece of gear is trivial or obsolete, whether you are playing the main game or DLC’S. You can always repeat any content by going to True Vault Hunter mode, which you can reset over and over again. But yes, by replaying the Slaughter maps or Proving Grounds, in my opinion, you should wait out until max level to get the best possible gear out of the DLC’s from the get go.
In my experience, there’s no difference that I’ve noticed, and I played it with all characters. And once you’ve started TVHM, you can reset it at any point.
I haven’t played it in a while so take this with a grain of salt if you will but I’d say wait until all dlc are released and get the GOTY edition for console or wait for a sale from your launcher/store of choice if you’re playing on PC. Anointed enemies ban be a PITA but for the most part you should be able to solo with any character with little problem. If the story isn’t that important to you once you finish normal pick the Mayhem level you want to try and give it a go- if it proves too difficult just go to a lower one.
All this being said I only have Moze at level 65- the story isn’t really engaging enough to me to want to drag the other 3 to max (I think my Amara is in the early 40’s, while Zane and Fl4k are in the mid 30’s level range). I play Moze at Mayhem 11 expressly to avoid any Mayhem modifiers- a good idea horribly implemented.
As far as to how long it will take to get to level 65, it depends on how much of the dlc you want to do and whether you want to do them before or after finishing the main story, as there are more than a few dlc weapons that make making progress a lot easier. The game is OK- while it made a lot of nice ease of life changes and looks great, I’m just disappointed because of all of the wasted potential this game has- IMO it could have been much, much better…
I mean that I have to disagree with, every boss fight required you to use specific abilities to interrupt theirs! That’s already deeper than borderlands 3 lol
In my experience, I finished the campaign around 45-47. I feel if you REALLY took your time and farmed the hell out of stuff, you could reach 65 easily. The xp requirement is very little coming from previous games.
And yes, it really is that easy to farm gear. Tipping Moxxi gives you one of the best weapons in the game right now. It requires no combat at all, just turn it up to M11 just spam tips until you get multiple copies. It’s actually stronger than the loot that drops in takedowns.
But if you don’t want to do that, it still is easy. Certain bosses drop gear that is strong enough that jumping through mayhem levels is quick. Try to look for the bosses that are easy to kill bc chances are they’ll drop guns that are strong enough w/o anoints. I was easily able to jump from M0 → M4 → M10 as a result. Modifiers also haven’t rly affected my farming experience since they’re mostly seen when you mob. Except the purely stat debuff ones.
Since most of yours questions got already answered, I d give my opinion on the subjective ones
2. Which modifiers are the hardest ones for a very challenging gameplay at mayhem 10?
I d say it depends largely on your build but generally speaking I d say rogue lite is the hardest
also post mortem/freeze tag are not really that hard if you have good dps and play ranged. I agree that Mob mentality can be dangerous.
3. Do you think in future Gearbox will add higher or nearly unfair difficulty mode to the game, something where you can farm for in the long run, just to be able to beat it? 4. Do you think they will add a new rarity of items? Something really rare^^
No to both, I think the game life is nearing its end so I don’t expect major addition after last dlc
5. Should i cut the dlcs out until i reach lvl 65, to not trivialize the content?
Definitely, dlcs have really powerful items especially bounty of blood
Borderlands 3s end game is kind of in a wired place due to the mixed feedback Gearbox has selectively built upon.
To start with the leveling experience if your new to Borderlands but not new to the RPG looter Genre this game isn’t likely to pose much of a challange once you learn how to use elements. Your initial playthrough will have you encounter some bumpy areas where the game can get overly easy if you are doing every side quest and every crew challange as they appear. Over all it is a very fun and engaging experience dispite the at times low enemy scaling. I recommend saving all circles of Slaughter until post game.
Once you reach the end of the game you will be around level 40 depending on how much of the exploration and side quests you completed. If you don’t have the DLC you can go do circles of Slaughter to get the rest of your levels. If you start turning Mayhem mode on getting experience shouldn’t take you all that long. For a brand new player I would guess it will take you around 40 to 45 hours to reach max level.
You will find a great deal of legendaries just destroy the game pre Mayhem mode and can be used for upwards of 8 to 15 levels before needing replacement. Some outliers can go even longer. Once your in Mayhem mode you can jump to 11 or do modifiers and jump 2 to 3 levels once you get a decent gun at a decent mayhem level. Anointments make the game much easier but in some cases you will still be challanges by overwhelming numbers of badass enemies in circles of Slaughter or waves or relentless enemies in the takefowns. Outside of that the game even on Mayhem mode doesn’t present much of a challange. The power curve with good anointments, good gear and a good build is enormous which is why health values on enemies and damage on guns get inflated so quickly. The inflation dose NOT equal difficulty. It just makes the same enemies take more punishment. If you want to experience some kind of challange play with Mayhem mods on an do some of the more involved ones like distructo spinners, Cryo orbs and death skulls. Even then half the interesting modifiers are “on death enemy dose this” meaning there presence is predictable.
In terms of longevity the games season pass 2 is not looking all that great. They are adding another bullet sponge raid boss like the BL2 ones which people will inevitably complain about and will inevitably get nerfed. The additional skill trees benefit some characters and do next to nothing interesting for the others. The first season pass will add literal hours of gameplay and three of the best DLCs the series has ever seen. We are likely to see some more free updates with another level increases, maybe another takedown, and possibly some new seasonal events.
If you are looking for a game to grind BL3 is a good time with some very shoddy balance. Mayhem mode is bullet sponge the game mode for end game and serves as a way to test your ability to put a build together more so then it is about your ability to play.
I would wait for a sale. See if you fan pick the game up with its first season pass for around 50$ at that point your garinteed to get your money’s worth simply by playing all the content.
As for investing in the future of the end game well… this is it. Days and day of grinding against spongy enemies.
just save your money if i was you i maxed out 3 characters and it was complete drag, the story sucks and mayhem modes dont even work that great if you want challenge, yeah it fun kinda combat wise playing game 1st time on 1st character but when you need to do game 2 times with unskippable scene’s and having to do it main story on each vh 2 times it makes me hate story more. As for endgame content after doing all dlc its quite dead and bland and dont feel like doing same dlc like 6 times over.
@patbateman72 The Outriders demo crashed for me before I could even get out of the character selection screen after I selected the new game option from the menu - the very first time. And don’t even get me started on the horribly awkward console UI and menu system in Outriders. Worst I have ever seen in a game probably. So Outriders is far from perfect.
At no time did I ever say it was perfect, but as I did say it never crashed on my console while I played the game either. As for the menu system, can’t say I have a problem with it but to each their own. There are people that have ZERO problems with BL3 and there are those of us that do, it is what it is but that doesn’t mean that the people who play whatever it is they play are wrong for giving their opinion/perspective.
On a side note we are playing the Outriders DEMO for free, something that I can look at with a little more of an open mind than say spending $60/$100 or whatever edition you purchased, on a game that still has day one issues that have yet to be addressed.
WIth that said though I am done talking about it here because it is off topic from what the OP I am guessing started this tread for.
What game doesnt drop legendaries like trash?
Especiallu at the endgame where u farm.
I cant think of one game.
I juat bought thr legebdary version on steam. I tbink for 50 its worth thr money because you get alot alot alot of content. Bl3 has always been fun despite my gripes with.mayhem 2.0. Mayhem 11 essentially fixes my issues.
cant rly say buy this game
wait until there is a 100% complete edition and wait till its on sale… it aint worth it
the story is a hard hit or miss, and mostly miss
lvling a character is not hard , however it aint worth it either as endgame is broken
why is it broken?
you literally go from ■■■■ this why is everything so tanky to i can oneshot everything
weapons that arent buffed to oblivion are trash and everything else will just murder, the gap is massiv
as for endgame content there isnt anything rly good out there aside from 1 takedown, the rest is a onetime thing maybe 4 if you want to do all characters once
again wait till the have dlc 6 out and 3-4 months have finished… AT LEAST,
dlc 5 had bugs that where finished 3-4 months later, and plenty of ■■■■ isnt fixed 1 1/2 years later, ALOT btw
if you wait you can save massiv loads of cash and get a better experience, which doesnt say alot, the game is so hard hit or miss that you rly cant quite win
So… thanks for all the help i bought the all in one edition for 50.
But one important thing bevor i play further, because i dont want to ■■■■ up my playthrough.
Which things should i completely avoid during leveling or in the lower mayhem lvls? I mean once per character rewards, things that dont reset with tvhm.
I know crew challenges are one of them, are there more? (i believe chests too) And do these rewards only scale with level or with mayhem too? Then wait till lvl 65 mayhem 10/11 to do these things?
And do quest specific items also scale with mayhem?
Just tell me which things i should avoid so i dont miss out on things^^
I bought it but im waiting for april 8th cuz New story missions etc.
I bought bl3 along time ago but on epic store. Epic stores version wont let u play ur dlc items and the dlc offline which is dumb and they didnt fix any of those issues for years now despite screaming to 2k gb and epic. They all blame eachother.
The steam version works fine and steam hasa helpful community for everything and a large resource base.
Why steam will always be number 1 in my book.
Since im starting over from scratch i wanna experience the new story added on april 8th. I just read it will have more story and new story
