So damn on point it hurt

What I want.
Pros:
-I rather want them to create DLCs with small additional stories.
-Include the heroes and main npcs… how they coop with the resolution of the main story?
-what additional challenges they are facing? The continuation of Malivan and other brand wars?
-Evolve the timeline withouth moving over to BL4.

Cons:
-I don’t care about DLCs that provide me additional 1000hours of grind
-I don’t care for the Diablo 3’s Torment xxxxxx level of hardening and ā€œfalseā€ challenge, where enemy gets 100000% HP/Shield/ARMOR/DPS. Its stupid af. Can’t sugar code it. Its for chumps.
-Empty DLCs that brings me zero connection to the BL universe… Like the third DLC now upcoming with… wait for it… WESTERN THEME! WTF? And with zero NPCs that are in the main story (according to the leak video)? WTF2x!!!

I still play the game (if I got a tiny bit of time, but I got very very limited time right now).
I still enjoy grinding, but only concentrating on grinding for like 5% of my game time.
I still adventure in the areas, look around, try to check if there are small hidden places and locations I didn’t go to yet.
Still fun to pull alot of enemy and make a very hard fight for myself with all the classes. NOT GRIND FOCUSED FIGHT BUT RATHER CHALLENGE FOCUSED.

The game graph, the combat, the MUSIC (OMG THE MUSIC) and the main story is 10/10.
The End game with the grind is ā€œmehā€ the best. 3/10. (but again, just because the devs and 99% of the player base love grinding, I don’t care, I don’t and I never will. Quality over quantity for me every day of the year).

No, they shouldn’t move onto BL4. Not because BL3 is a dead duck, that’s for sure.

Underneath it all, BL3 is still a superb game. The gun mechanics are excellent and if you don’t do Mayhem 2.0 then it’s actually still a great experience. There’s not much wrong with vanilla BL3, except maybe the challenge at the end. You can even ignore anointments and have a great experience.

It’s once you start doing Mayhem that the cracks begin to show. Mayhem 2.0 has been one giant mess from start to finish. And it’s made anointments prominent to the extent that they are necessary for the higher levels. And given how much they influence the experience that’s not a good thing.

But if the team just focuses on BL4 now they will have learned nothing and we’ll just see a repeat in the next game if they still have the mentality that big heads, lasers shooting from stomachs and 200% damage bonuses are the way forward. It’s still very possible for them to salvage something from this mess if they just have the courage to swallow their pride and admit they were perhaps a little too ambitious. Otherwise we’ll just get more of the same in the next installment.

I agree so much that the base game of BL3 is awesome… it’s when you get to end game /mayhem 2.0 is when it becomes an utter mess

I agree 100%. Just about everything feels great in BL3 as long as you don’t start going up the mayhem levels. Things feel balanced, action skills are viable and not just an anointment activator, even FL4K’s pets aren’t completely terrible (Jabber’s rocket launcher can one-shot mobs and his SMG can actually take out enemies), Iron Bear wrecks, etc.

Vanilla is a little easy, absolutely. I’ve messed around plenty with Mayhem 2.0, kicking the tires and whatnot… but the inconsistent, unbalanced state it’s currently in has me keeping it turned off for now.

I think it can all be fixable if GBX has the willpower to take a deep breath and take some serious, critical looks at the game breaking things like anointments, and perhaps swallow a little pride.

Couldn’t agree more with that statement.

I want borderlands with all the currently (at the time the game comes out) alive vault hunters playable. It’s a big task and probably one I’ll never see, but that’s what I want. If the story is good, closer to bl2 and tps, I can play character after character through it and have more fun than bl3 end game + farming. Not that I dislike bl3, I just liked 2 better and I definitely like when we have more vault hunter options.

this is why i stick to bl1,bl2 and also the pre sequel for now until they fix stuff and stop with limited time event junk and make events possible all the time as they made it happen with bl2 why cant they do it with bl3 as technology should be more advanced then when they made bl2.

I probably won’t buy it. This game is a joke after a 7 year wait . Gearbox is incompetent.

But that’s precisely my point. Mayhem is post-game add in content. It shouldn’t be part of the core design of the game, so adjustments to Mayhem shouldn’t require rebalancing of weapons, drop rates, or any other changes to the core game that everyone who buys the game is going to play.

The core game should be treated as it’s own entity. That is THE GAME. That’s what they need to work on. Get all skills working, get all weapons balanced, get the enemies and gameplay balanced, and once you’ve got it right leave it.

Then make Mayhem separate. It can be turned on or off at will. Modifiers can be selected, avoided, added to the game, rebalanced, or removed as needed, but they do NOT change that core game.

You produce the game for everyone. You produce end game content for those that stick around. Their current design breaks the core game and is really lacking on providing meaningful end game content. I mean, modifiers are fun once in a while, but they really should be treated as a novelty, not a core game difficulty setting with items scaling to mayhem settings.

Yes if it’s free for all of us that bought BL3. Only way I’d entertain it. Gearbox is never getting anymore money out of me.

In what kind of rational mind would people who preach BL3 SUX ask for BL4? Running out of complaints? Or maybe just people who will actually listen to the rhetoric? Put a more experienced company at the wheel. WHAT? Borderlands was an original idea, please please tell me who would be more experienced? Bungie? Hell their forum users are ready to burn them at the stake. You folks can hardly agree on soup or salad, paper or plastic. I don’t think you in charge of a games direction will benefit, well anyone.

Such a disingenuous argument. We are in end game. We’re in end game as it stands now. Will end game change with new content being released? Yes.

Will gbx make good changes, take to heart the suggestions of the community? Maybe. I hope so. I’m not holding my breath though.

Right now we’re a hell of a lot closer to anthem or fall out 76 than we are to the Witcher 3 or even bl2.

First off taking a quote without the explanation is a good way to distort the meaning of a post.
Secondly I don’t think you know what disingenuous means, I’m absolutely being sincere with my comment.
We are NOT in end game.

  1. The guns you are farming are they good to keep cause level isn’t increasing?
  2. Have max level builds been defined and people are working towards that build?
  3. Has all content been released and we are now replaying our favourite content?

We are working towards end game, but are only about 2/3rds of the way there (and that’s if they only come out with 2 more dlcs as planned). The current game is just the meta we are in. Just how the game plays in this moment… Not at the end if there is still more path in front of us… just on a journey.

If Thursday’s patch doesn’t miraculously fix things, and usher in an era of balance that is nigh impossible to achieve in a single patch, I’m right there with you.

If I can add on:

Anointments
That they are so powerful, and the pool is diluted with such terrible anoints, that you would leave the gun that you have been farming for 50+ kills lay on the floor because it dropped with a garbage anoint, is a failure of design.

Weapon Scaling
That we are stuck at a point where everyone is using the same 5-7 guns in a game that kept advertising itself as having BILLIONS OF GUNS! is a design philosophy failure.

Action Skills / Moze
I can’t shake the feeling that the breaking of these things on launch of Mayhem 2.0 was a deliberate act, to ensure that Moze Players didn’t have some ā€œamazingā€ advantage over other players…

So instead, they made moze players pretend they don’t have an action skill. There was no need to ā€œfix itā€. They should never have done this.

End Game
I am, I guess, In the minority regarding Takedowns. I love the Takedowns. I love the gameplay. I just hate that the loot from the takedown is so hard to come by, and that even at the most balanced weeks of time, it was never ground breaking, and you were never going out of your way to get it.

If your takedowns are going to be your raids, the loot that drops should be jaw dropping, inspired, ā€œI have to run thisā€ levels of amazing. Not doing so, hurts the value of the end game.

Technical Performance Issues
Honestly, my biggest technical issue with the game, is that they released it to console, and just told console players to deal with the load screens. If you’re going to release a game on a platform, it should be acceptable to play on the platform.

New Anointments
I was excited when they added the new anoints on a permanent basis. I was a sucker, and believed that the Yellowcake, and OPQ were going to get gutted, not the new super awesome, super fun Anoint that was working as written, even if that wasn’t the intention. To destroy this, without warning the community that it wasn’t right, is the major failing of the new anoints, IMO.

Communication
This seems to be the major failing of Borderlands 3. Now, I get it, there is a worldwide pandemic going on right now. I completely get that.

But, Gearbox decided to move forward, work from home, and stick to this unmodified schedule.

They didn’t have to. These are extenuating circumstances, if there were ever extenuating circumstances. They could have said;

Be patient, things are coming, we are just… a little behind because we value our employees, and we are trying to keep them safe, healthy, and happy.

But, they soldiered on, and tried to deliver massive content that would be a monumental undertaking when everyone is in the same office.

You can do that remotely, but the timetable should have been lengthened, the season pass made to last longer.

But through it all, communication about the intention of the devs, the reasoning on why things were being done, was still thin.

I know, ā€œbut the borderlands show!ā€. Yeah. That’s fine. But, the day before, where you hype your customers, instead of informing your customers just isn’t good enough. Especially when you are transforming such monumental parts of the game.

And to be clear, the communication problems were going on before the stay at home orders, and pandemic.

Personally, I regret buying the Season Pass Edition of the game. The stories were great, most of the zones are awesome, but the loot is uneven, at best.

DLC1 brought us Class Mods that are game breaking, but the guns are (for the most part) utterly forgettable at cap.

DLC 2 brought us 2 snipers that people love, and a shotgun than can be the best weapon in the game, and… again, most everything else is forgettable.

I hope that Thursday fixes things in a way that allows me to have some faith in the game. But, I’m not holding my breath.

thing you have to ask yourself is, can BL4 be better, same or worse than bl3, better well anything can be better then the mess bl3 is in right now, same well yes if same tream who made bl3 makes bl4. worse well possibly seeing the sorry state bl3 is in.

so theres a 1 in 3 chance of bl4 being any good. sums it up in a nutshell.

Well, let me know when that true, final, absolutely complete end game arrives, and if I care at all maybe I will play it again. I can assure you that I won’t even consider purchasing another Gearbox game until it reaches the state you describe, which also means it’s going to be on clearance sale or given away for free. In short, you telling me to wait is precisely what I’m going to do. Gearbox can find someone else who will pay more than $5 for their entire game from now on.

Nope, just scrap the series or give it to a team that can make it work
