If Thursdayās patch doesnāt miraculously fix things, and usher in an era of balance that is nigh impossible to achieve in a single patch, Iām right there with you.
If I can add on:
Anointments
That they are so powerful, and the pool is diluted with such terrible anoints, that you would leave the gun that you have been farming for 50+ kills lay on the floor because it dropped with a garbage anoint, is a failure of design.
Weapon Scaling
That we are stuck at a point where everyone is using the same 5-7 guns in a game that kept advertising itself as having BILLIONS OF GUNS! is a design philosophy failure.
Action Skills / Moze
I canāt shake the feeling that the breaking of these things on launch of Mayhem 2.0 was a deliberate act, to ensure that Moze Players didnāt have some āamazingā advantage over other playersā¦
So instead, they made moze players pretend they donāt have an action skill. There was no need to āfix itā. They should never have done this.
End Game
I am, I guess, In the minority regarding Takedowns. I love the Takedowns. I love the gameplay. I just hate that the loot from the takedown is so hard to come by, and that even at the most balanced weeks of time, it was never ground breaking, and you were never going out of your way to get it.
If your takedowns are going to be your raids, the loot that drops should be jaw dropping, inspired, āI have to run thisā levels of amazing. Not doing so, hurts the value of the end game.
Technical Performance Issues
Honestly, my biggest technical issue with the game, is that they released it to console, and just told console players to deal with the load screens. If youāre going to release a game on a platform, it should be acceptable to play on the platform.
New Anointments
I was excited when they added the new anoints on a permanent basis. I was a sucker, and believed that the Yellowcake, and OPQ were going to get gutted, not the new super awesome, super fun Anoint that was working as written, even if that wasnāt the intention. To destroy this, without warning the community that it wasnāt right, is the major failing of the new anoints, IMO.
Communication
This seems to be the major failing of Borderlands 3. Now, I get it, there is a worldwide pandemic going on right now. I completely get that.
But, Gearbox decided to move forward, work from home, and stick to this unmodified schedule.
They didnāt have to. These are extenuating circumstances, if there were ever extenuating circumstances. They could have said;
Be patient, things are coming, we are just⦠a little behind because we value our employees, and we are trying to keep them safe, healthy, and happy.
But, they soldiered on, and tried to deliver massive content that would be a monumental undertaking when everyone is in the same office.
You can do that remotely, but the timetable should have been lengthened, the season pass made to last longer.
But through it all, communication about the intention of the devs, the reasoning on why things were being done, was still thin.
I know, ābut the borderlands show!ā. Yeah. Thatās fine. But, the day before, where you hype your customers, instead of informing your customers just isnāt good enough. Especially when you are transforming such monumental parts of the game.
And to be clear, the communication problems were going on before the stay at home orders, and pandemic.
Personally, I regret buying the Season Pass Edition of the game. The stories were great, most of the zones are awesome, but the loot is uneven, at best.
DLC1 brought us Class Mods that are game breaking, but the guns are (for the most part) utterly forgettable at cap.
DLC 2 brought us 2 snipers that people love, and a shotgun than can be the best weapon in the game, and⦠again, most everything else is forgettable.
I hope that Thursday fixes things in a way that allows me to have some faith in the game. But, Iām not holding my breath.
