Skyrim - General Discussion

I have at least 30 different saves of different portions of my fight against Alduin there. Maybe I should’ve stocked up on more potions than the light amount I had on me? I had to rely on just healing myself with magic and hiding for about 90% of the fight.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I really couldn’t tell it was that bad from how hard it was to see with Alduin constantly shouting anyways. Plus, all of the game’s default effects work properly with the shaders that I use with my ENB. But as soon as I get that R9 270, I’ll be good to go with my framerate. Plus I’ll have twice the VRAM to work with, so it’s nice to hope for that. I really want my perfect 75FPS. I’ve already experienced how good a perfect 75 feels with a lot of older games, and also Metro 2033 Redux, surprisingly. Still, I do want to upgrade to a 144hz 1080p once I have the hardware for it.

IMO you should go for a 75 Hz 4K monitor unless you can find a cheap & good 144 Hz monitor since there isn’t much difference between 100-120 Hz and 144 Hz and 4k is awesome even if a bit slower in refresh rate.

ok not really and just in case you didn’t read the spoilers I was kidding about the dragons getting nerfed.

I don’t have a case that’s big enough to support 4K gaming capable hardware. 1080p will be just fine for my sadly small desk anyways.

I know.

True, you case is small isn’t it? Hmm… I’d say go a 2k monitor @~75 Hz then assuming you have a SLI?CrossFire setup otherwise I guess the 144 Hz would be good but probably pushing your GPU.

Yeah, it is a small case, and also a small desk. This is my case, by the way. I needed something that fits comfortably in a small space, with good air flow. A mid tower on the floor would’ve gotten horrible air flow, so I opted to let this case take up the right side of my desk. A dual GPU setup would work pretty well for me, even with the problems that said setups tend to have. Currently though, I have a single AMD Radeon HD 7770. It’s pretty funny how that’s not enough for 1440x900@75hz, let alone 60hz for most games. It’s getting close to the time I’ll have an R9 270 in this machine though, and the one I’m getting has proven to run extremely well and cool while overclocked, and it can overclock far.

For now I prefer more GPU power to run applications at 1080p than a 4k capable card. It’ll take a while for 4k to become standard. And it’s too expensive for now.

Yeah, that’s a little tiny. You might fit a Titan X in there but it’d need some modification to accommodate it. Shame too since the board is orientated in such a way as to minimize/remove stress from gravity on the GPU so you’d more than likely never have to worry about the weight a card being too much for it’s own good.
It’s not too terribly bad IMO even if still a bit of an investment (hello Titan X that’ll play stuff at a solid and constant 60 fps with max settings on pretty much everything and only for slightly more than a thousand)
As for 4K monitors, yeah they are expensive and IMO not yet 100% worth it (roughly 4/5 ā€œworth itā€ right now IMO) due FPS being limited to a while respectable but still slow 60fps (100 or even 75-85 is much better, just makes it much more smooth)

Yeah, the front fans would need to go. They take up a good inch of the case, but are really good intake fans. I’m sure my parts would’ve baked without them. Also, the nice thing about the case is that the motherboard mounts onto a tray, which can be removed from the case. That made initially building the PC super easy, since I barely had any trouble. The real trouble came from the power supply I was originally using. 500 Watts, but not modular, so the bottom of the case had a huge rats nest in it. I have a 650 Watt semi-modular power supply in there now, which means I’m basically ready to get a new GPU. That also means I can explore more options with my ENB, to refine it.

Titan X is like the other Titans, a waste of money.
Youre paying extra for not only Nvidias name but for the Titan name too.
Buy one of the cards that will come out after it instead.

From what I’ve seen, that’s pretty much true. I’m going to be sticking with AMD for a while though, since Nvidia’s cards have been nothing short of too expensive for me to afford, let alone I don’t like drastic changes that much.

I have mentioned befor why I prefer AMD over Nvidia, basicaly with Nvidia it feels like you pay extra for the name and features you dont use.
Not saying Nvidia is bad, they have great cards, but they are not for me.

Problem is that the Titan cards are nearly on par with the 780/980 series, plus 4k makes it expensive as hell. Unless you really want start using 4k resolutions, it’s not worth it. Anyway waiting for the next series of Geforce cards, hoping that it’ll actually increase performance significantly instead of just adding some new tech. The GT ā€˜XXX’ series is about to end so something more potent is expected next.

I havent played Skyrim in a while and Im thinking about starting a new character, probely gonna go Conjuration, Illusion and Alteration as main skills.
Either a Dark Elf or a Breton.

A single Titan X can overclock very nicely (~500 for gpu clock) and easily handle 4k @60Hz with all settings on max for 9/10 games. Name a card setup for less money that could do the same and I’ll agree with you. Until then I’ll stick with ā€œExpensive sure but able to outperform more or less enough to justify amount spentā€.
Who needs fans anyway? ~rips off GPU fans and watches an egg cook on it~
Only way around it might be ripping off the fans and getting a water cooling block but IIRC the ones for a Titan X are semi rare so you have to be sure it is for a Titan X and Z, Black or whatever and due to being rare it’s a bit more expensive than others.
Umm… what? Care to explain a bit like do you mean for power utilization or something cause last I checked all Titans can go at higher res and fps than any other Nvidia card?
What’ll the next ā€œseriesā€ be? XXXX?

Maybe they’ll bring the 800 series to desktops (though it would be weird to go back a step in terms of numbers)

If I ever get a card like the Titan X soon, I’d go for the R9 295x2. It’s a lot cheaper for the price/performance differences.

I thought they did already? Hmm… ~does google search~
It seems there are some 800m cards but more ā€œ800mā€ laptops.
But it needs water cooling so more $$$ to spend. Still, it might be good (I don’t really know much about AMD cards besides that they are the other main GPU manufacturers)
BTW, was kinda making fun of the size with the ā€œrip off the fans and watercoolā€ part for the Titan X so it wasn’t serious.

I know. How did you manage to quote everything I said besides the name of the card, though?
