So I'm getting my Axton to OP8 then

Yes I also use the gemini nuke build, and tbh I would rather not switch. If you quickly slag a surveyor (v1 and 2 also!) and throw a turret nuke next to it you destroy it straight away! Just 1 of many reasons why I like them, as example.

KnuckleDragger either gives you the Hornet OR a white Jacobs pistol. So hopefully it will help! Right?

I like the optimism. But I’ve heard the "Vault hunters relic is trash and doesn’t have an effect on legendary drops many times round here.
Is this the case? Everytime she’s dropped a Hornet for me she also left a revolver among the remains too. I always thought the white revolver was a guaranteed drop, you’re only really rolling for the Hornet. I could be wrong, but I swear I’ve never seen a Hornet drop alone.

To put it another way, I’ve started sever al new toons recently, and I did try to farm a Hornet with a couple of them in NVHM. I did kill Knuckledragger 20+times to get one when I started my second Axton, and he was wearing that relic. My conclusion was that if it had an effect at all it was barely noticeable.

Here’s a thread about exactly this.

According to a post in that thread it has no effect on assigned drops, so it wouldn’t change your chances of scoring a Hornet. It does affect world drops, but the percentage is so small you won’t feel a difference.

I know there was another thread about this related to using it for increased chance of getting the Cobra, but found that a forum member had posted this to the wiki :

Rarity % Before Relic % After Relic Applied
Common 89.92% 89.5%
Uncommon 8.99% 9.4%
Rare 0.89% 0.9%
Very Rare 0.09% 0.094%
E-tech 0.09% 0.094%
Legendary 0.009% 0.0094%

Basically it’s taking 0.42% of white’s chance and spreading amongst the rest. No idea why someone thought it was a good idea to equip it for Cobra hunting (“it increases the chances by 10%!”). Anyways, it’s great for getting greens to drop

Some extra info: “60% less whites” is what it does in the code. What this means in practice:
Normally a drop you get from a normal enemy, 89% of them are white, 11% are non-whites.
Reducing the rate of whites by “60%” makes it so you get 84% whites, instead of 89% whites, which is where the 5% comes from.
this means you go from 11% chance for non-garbage to 16% non-garbage, effectively boosting the rates by about 50%.
How does 60% translate to 5% you ask? math which is too long for a YT comment section

The working of the relic is also explained by its creator in one of the “Inside the Box” loot articles. Regardless, it only affects world drops anyway, not designated drops (as mentioned above).

Knuckledragger is a really fast farm, though, and it is 1 in 10 odds. I’ll also add that the white rarity (Jakobs) pistol is pretty much always there (unless it disappeared into an inaccessible location) regardless. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it be anything other than white though, at least in NVHM and TVHM? I suspect that since he’s the first “boss” in the game, his loot pool is pretty fixed.

So I got a bit further and then died really stupidly fighting Doc Mercy clones (got Double KO’d I.e. Took 1 down but simultaneously went down into FFYL so game over, don’t you hate that).

I think ill be able to do it, seems like a memory thing to me experience will help. But it just takes so damn long. Actually I pretty much ran out of ammo fighting the Scorches (I think), shotgun, sniper and pistol also, quite ridiculous. A saved game would have been nice halfway at this point, in my estimation now this OP5 level could take close to an hour with my Axton.

Yeah Knuckledragger will always drop that white pistol (and a bunch of money). Always. The Hornet has that standard 10% chance of being an extra drop. I think most enemies who have a designated rare drop assigned to them work this way. Like how Flynt will almost always drop a Tinderbox, but the T-ball Fists have a 10% chance of being an extra drop. Though there are some weird exceptions of course, like how the game decides to drop a Cobra from one of Pete’s burners (can’t think of others right off the top of my head.)

Get yourself a decent AR- it has the largest ammo pool of any weapon and Axton has skills & class mods that helps AR’s IIRC…

Of all the superstitious things people do that they think will increase the quality of drops, wearing this relic, is the only legit thing that I know of that will. That video explains it well, I think.

The thing about the relic is - those dice are only rolled upon the death of the critter. You can wear whatever relic you want until the enemy is within a shot of death, swap in the relic, finish the boss, and get the boost if you’re so inclined.

Don’t get me mixed up, I wear it myself until I get something worth wearing. The post I was referring to, as well as the video, states that it has no effect on assigned drops, such as the B!tch or Sham from BNK3R, and therefore I would think not the Hornet from Knuckledragger either. The effect it has is on the world drop chance by lowering the chance of getting whites, at least I think that’s close to what the video says.

I know fire DOT’s vs. corrosion DOT’s don’t work as well in Peak but I could sworn that I played COOP w/ somebody once and they tossed a bunch of Fire Bee’s onto the Black Queen’s…and it tore them up pretty good. Strictly on the Queens is fire a better option?

The problem with the Peak is trying to remember which enemies are neutral and which are weak to a particular element.

Humans and skags are neutral ; robots are weak to corrosive except on their eye crit (neutral) ; and spiderants? Depends on what kind.

To answer the Black Queens : fire is actually best…except on the crit (neutral).

On the other hand, you’re in for a bad time if you’re not going for crits with them. Which is why people just recommend corrosive : it works consistently well enough that you don’t have to swap elements.

Thanks.

Standard bandits (marauders) are actually insane in peak, up there with most annoying enemies. Can’t rush them down anymore like I’ve always loved, gotta do snipe style or be killed.

They truly are. It took me a long time to realize I was grossly underestimating them. They have increased health compared with off-Peak (around 30% more). That’s the other thing : random enemies have increased health.

Well I made it to OP6 finally! Much credit went to this amazing Infinity pistol that a Doc Mercy dropped, actually I’m not sure I would have been able to do it without it. Zoomed in the pistol is bad I noticed, however I really shouldn’t complain.

I heard OP6 was when it got really tough so I was ready to stop here, however massive spider tank dropped amazing hyperion weaponry, including hyp slag shotty (one of very best weapons in game imo), so maybe I will be able to do it!

I’d like to refute that, sadly I didn’t take any footage, but i’ve definitely had nothing from KD. Now I will concede it’s possible it fell through the floor, but i’ve definitely had runs where he doesn’t seem to drop any weapons at all.
