So... Oscar Mike and Wiskey Foxtrot are fishes?

I hope he´ll respond, I´m rather curious now!

Gills on his abdomen = good point for you,Sir!
Though maybe his race has multiple gill locations…

Alani is a great point!!! But thats why I brought up axolotl & trouts. Compare their gills to sharks gills or those of a flunder - many different appearences are possible

Yeah, great point, but looky there - she has gills on her ribs/abdomen too!^^
Not so much off limits now tat WF has gills in the same area, just different looking since he´s from a different race
(maybe breathing in = top gills on the neck, breathing out = gills down on the ribs)

I understand where you are coming from. But the difference in appearance of fish gills is not as large as the difference between Alani and WF. All fish’s gills are overlapping flaps of skin. Some are larger and more obvious, some are not. Some have lots of gills, some have a few. Some are really hairy, some have hair only on the inside.

Alani’s gills are a different color. Whiskey’s designs are not a different color. They are discolored. They are his skin color, only darker. Like scar tissue. They don’t stick out, but actually almost appear to be sunken in, like scars.

Especially the one on his abs… They are a little closer to the center of his body, not his side. Which doesn’t work, they need to be on his side. Arguably, they can do w/e they want, but still, gills are suppose to be on the flank. In addition, the scar on his abdomen is cut off. If you see, it is not a mere line, but it is jagged and has “branches” which are not what gills have.

Regardless of the designs on his neck. Do you not think that what is on his abs are scars?

Breathing in is done in the mouth, the gills are for the water to leave. You only need 1 set of gills. Obviously Alani disagrees lol

First of all, making a comparison to Rath is a waste of time, because Jennerit aren’t human to begin with. Humanoid, yes. But not genetically humans. Reyna definitely is.
As for other characters like Montana, did anyone consider that human civilization in the BB Universe included ‘Bioforming’ (genetic engineering) to make human settlers compatible with new environments? (As in Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda, where about 99,8% of the humans are genetically altered in one way or the other. Just mentioning Castalians or Nietzscheans here.)

THIS!
I mean from a modern ethical standpoint, it would be unthinkable to plan someone to be a soldier a long time before his birth.
Apparently some member states of what makes up the UPR thought differently, possibly only due to the threat of the Varelsi, or they wouldn’t have created a clone army to begin with.
And if you’re already that far, you might also modify their genes to further optimize them.

So, whether the clone soldiers’ gills are natural, artificial or an artificially recalled atavism (yes, dysfunctional gills can occur in humans  ) doesn’t really matter. They got them.
They probably also got heightened reflexes, denser muscle tissue, nano-enforced skeletal structure and possibly even advanced sight. At least, I would bet on that.

I completely agree with you. Except they aren’t gills. They are the scars of a madman.

Love the discussion going on in this thread. Now I’m not sure if I want to see OM without his helmet could be scary.

I’m worried that Oscar will have purple skin. I always believe that the purple skin and teeth were part of the deficiency… but now I’m thinking that OM is purple, too :frowning:

Nyah don´t worry!^^ Maybe their race has many skincolors, as we humans do. So they could be bluish up to purple, as Asari in MassEffect.
I like to think of OM as blue greyish

I like to think of Oscar Mike as white.

Not to start a new argument, but humans aren’t as colorful as you make them out to be :stuck_out_tongue: It’s really just 1 color with lots of shades. I mean, I’m white, but other than the red tint from the inside of my body, it’s just an extremely pale shade of brown.

But, I think your right about bluish up to purple, being shades of that color. Blue gray makes sense. I wonder if they look like the Tau from Warhammer 40k.

That picture makes them look more blue than blue gray  sorry

Someone do WF lore challenges. Maybe the answer lies there

Hehe, but you know what I mean, there could be a variety that all I ment^^

Oh yeah, the Tau are a great example as well! Or Drenai from WoW.

Main problem is that in Battleborn are many “humanoid” species that can be mistaken to be actual humans. As longtime fan of nearly every SciFi in existence its nothing new for me, but some people still think the Jennerit or clone soldiers are human…

@kobold1011 - we are onto it, also I hope a GBX character designer will respond here, this discussion makes me eager to hear what they think! ^^

Only the most credible line ever :stuck_out_tongue:

I guess that’s why they gave him a helmet and never really show the face anywhere in the game. You can just ignore the concept art and pretend he’s master chief. I myself think this is way more interesting than the generic grunt he appears to be.

Plot twist: Oscar Mike is Master Chief.

Wonder if they are the same race as dlc bb #26. I forget her name. But she has gills too.

Oh, the scars on his abdomen just help my argument, look at their jagged nature, the odd angles, they don’t follow a pattern. Unless the scars on his neck are surgical scars for some reason, they don’t even look like the scars on his own body.

But you’re absolutely right about one thing… they don’t look like FISH gills…

But not all gills look like fish gills…

Go look up shark gills. When they’re closed (and of course they’d be closed, they’re not underwater in the game) they’re just tiny, darker colored slits on the side of a shark’s neck…

image

Take a look at the teeth… the dark blue/purple coloring.

You’ve completely changed my mind, they’re absolutely not fish-people-clones.

#THEY’RE SHARK-PEOPLE-CLONES!

Fact.

^ THIS! Onepiece-Arlong shark-soldiers!!! Completely agree!

Alani^^
No I don´t really think they are the same race, her gills look more…“fluffy” than the ones of WF.
WF´s gills are more like the ones of a shark or ray. Alani has more thick trout gills, or axolotl/amphibian gills which are usually more swolen to the outside than just slits/flaps.

So I think both have gills, but are different specias. Maybe Alanis are for for water, WF & OM for alien athmospheres to invade foreign planets better

Or it could be a guy/girl gills thing and gearbox thinks gills are gills.
