This just happened in the game I was in. Our Rath decided ruining the game for the rest of them team was an ok thing to do.
The reverse is true as well, there are some lore challenges that can only be done in PVE. Doesn’t really matter though, whether it is for lore challenges or any other reason, you will always come across ■■■■■■■■ in the game.
The game allows for it be done though. This isn’t even like other games where achievements are just fluff. There’s actually substantial incentive to say ■■■■ off to your team and just go after achievements.
That’s bad design.
Not really. It may force you to play in a mode that you have no interest in, but it really doesn’t incentivize anyone to be an ass to their team. That has everything to do with that individual, not the game design.
Wow.
The game literally gives you a goal to pursue outside of strictly helping your team win and u don’t see that as the designers fault for allowing it? There are 4 ppl in a match that want to help each other and win, and there’s 1 that really doesn’t care about that cuz he only cares about the lore challenge.
How is that not bad design for allowing for that possibility in the 1st place?!
If ppl are going to be ■■■■■■■■ anyway, why give them extra reason to do it?
While I do very much understand your concern, and I would’ve been incredibly frustrated, I believe Gearbox intended this to be an interesting aspect for PVP play.
It was meant to interest people in versatile game modes, as well as perhaps reward groups of people who decide to branch out while playing a group.
I’ve seen people join multiplayer games where requirements for unlocks were getting a certain amount of kills with a-b-c weapon, and they more or less become a squishy berserker, hurling lawn darts and cabbage at fully armored men with no regard for team play.
This isn’t so much poor game design as it is the unfortunate consequence of attempting to do anything in an environment which allows for heavy user interaction.
Again, I would’ve been just as frustrated as you, but I find a certain amount of joy in unlocking things in online play. Whatever Gearbox would implement in online play, with the sole exception of strict ranked matches for those who have a certain level of dedication to their position, is going to allow for some method of poor form by a few of their users.
What challenge does rath have not stops him for winning in pvp?
He just sounds like a ■■■■■■■.
I agree that Lore Challenges should be probably be better balanced so people don’t screw over there entire team for them.
There are no challenges on Rath that require PVP overall…
Exactly, the lore challenge is not something that encourages anyone to abandon their team to achieve. That is just how this particular ■■■■■■■ decided to pursue it.
Yes In all modes.
Correct me if im wrong, but can’t you earn the PvP achievements by setting up private matches against bots?
They fortunately changed things so that you get a little bit of Command Rank and Character XP from playing private matches with bots…however you will not be able to make any progress on lore challenges with bot matches.
I’m glad they added the bit of Command Rank and Character XP to bot matches…so that is a nice change from Beta…but they decided to stop there.
There are however some lore challenges that encourages players to end the match as fast as possible, because they require a specific hero on the other team to even make progress, so if there’s no such hero on the other team, it’s more or less a complete waste of time.
Personally, I think there should be multiple ways to get lore challenges, with preferably a PvP and a PvE biased option.
No, you can’t; any kills/assists/wins/etc done in private matches count for absolutely nothing.
In my opinion, they really should’ve made these lore challenges universal for both pvp and pve ie. like the “do x-amount of damage with whatever skill” challenges or something.
People don’t need reasons to be jerks, they just do it. Besides, I’ve had a player just jerk around all match a few times, but we still won. (And I was playing as Whiskey Foxtrot, for god’s sake.)
Just chill out man, it’s not the end of the world.
