I love Isolation.
Itâs the Alien game Iâve always wanted. Mostly because it followed my favorite film in the series, the first one. When the alien was still a deadly and perfect organism. An unknown that couldnât simply be gunned down in a narrow hallway.
And, if CA are really up for a sequel⌠then I say hell yes.
Just because they plan on using the same style doesnât mean it will follow the exact same path.
LOL, they couldnât gun it down because they didnât have guns. In Aliens they went down because they had high powered weaponry. AI was not the game I wanted at all, although I will say it was fun. As far as CA and a sequel, I would rather not have a repeat of the same type of gameplay, thatâs like same song different day type of thing. For the same reason Ridley Scott didnât make Prometheus in the same vain as Alien because it had already been done. If CA does another AI game they are gonna have to do something to keep it interesting otherwise the game will lose its luster real quick!
I know they didnât have âweaponsâ in the first film. But, the alien felt deadlier due to the fact that it couldnât be killed.
In Aliens⌠when you see the marines gunning down multiple aliens⌠it takes away from the âperfect organismâ of the creature.
The alien felt⌠safer in the Aliens. As if they were only deadly in groups.
Isolation brought that back. Given the feeling of danger back to the alien, something that had been missing since the first film.
Even Alien 3 made the alien seem deadlier then Aliens did. And yes, I know⌠âno gunsâ⌠but my point stands. When youâre able to just gun it down with âhigh powered weaponryâ⌠the alien looses a lot of itâs intimidation.
I would love a sequel to A:I.
And considering how well they delivered on Isolation, I trust CA to deliver again. Knowing they canât repeat the formula.
Hell, they didnât even stick with one formula through out Isolation.
I canât agree, if anything Aliens reinforces the idea of them being the perfect organism painting an even deadlier picture of the creature. In alien it was merely an unknown hostile organism that was wandering around going on a killing spree. Aliens went further demonstrating a highly intelligent methodology behind what they are and what they do. Even with all the weaponry the marines were all but wipedout. I wouldnt call that safer.
The marines got wiped out because they over-estimated their abilities.
They were convinced the mission would be a cakewalk. And, while they killed countless aliens in the process⌠they still backed themselves into a corner simply because they didnât take Ripley seriously when she tried to tell them what they were up against.
Using the âalienâ in the second film, had the marines actually been aware of the danger they were facing⌠they wouldâve fared better.
Hell, the stand off in the second half of the film goes better then the initial encounter. With less marines. And thatâs only because they didnât run in thinking they were untouchable.
But even so, it makes the creature only deadly in large groups. Where as the reason the alien worked so well in the first film was because it was an unknown. You donât get a good look at it, you donât know what you can do against it⌠you donât know what itâs goals are.
Something about âOh, just shoot it with a gun⌠that kills itâ takes away from the fear of the alien.
I like the second film, a lot (the original cut⌠not the directorâs cut), but the first film is the best in my eyes. The unknown, the stealth and deadliness of the alien.
Also, Iâm strongly with H.R. Gigerâs opinion⌠Iâm not big on the âredesignâ of the alien in the second film. The original design is the best.
But couldât the same thing be said if they made it like Colonial Marines? You canât shoot a bunch of Aliens on a space station. To quote Cpt. Dallas âthat S***'ll eat through the G**DAMN Hull!â.

The intelligence of the alien played a major role in the fall of the marines in the second film. âHow could the cut the power theyâre animals?â To quote Hudson, testing the defenses, Waiting for the right moment to attack, and coordinating their efforts, itall led to the defeat of the marines. As far as the âredesignâ of the alien goes, not much of one they are virtually identical with the exception of a couple of details added to the arms and the removal of the dome so not much to complain about their.
If you recall it didnât eat through the hull it stopped after a few decks, so still totally plausible.
If you also recall, that amount of acid blood from the face hugger was from basically skinning its knee. a double barrel to the face and weâre talking âChina Syndromeâ levels of hole making
I agree with most of thisâŚbut why donât you prefer the directors cut of Aliens? Sentry guns FTMFW
I love the sentry guns.
But, a lot of the added stuff at the beginningâŚ
Personally, I feel the film works better not seeing LV-426 until Ripley and the marines arrive. Not seeing Newt until after everything has fallen apart. Iâve always preferred the opening of the theatrical film, for some reason⌠adding the scenes with people at the colony just⌠takes away from the film IMO.
I love the directorâs cut of Alien. And the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 is the only way to watch the movie.
But, Aliens, the theatrical cut is the best version. But, it shouldâve had the sentry guns in it from the start.
I like Hadleyâs Hope before the aliens take over. It gives a creepy contrast to the hustle and bustle of ânormal lifeâ compared to the aftermath. I could do without the âdead daughterâ video wall scene. On the fence for the Burke cocoon scene.
To each his own. 
I prefer the colder opening to Aliens, the darker tone⌠coming into the colony and seeing it empty, destroyed⌠it gives you the chance to imagine what happened to the people there without a clear idea of what it was like before.
Also, on a side note⌠I noticed this morning⌠that my Aliens: Colonial Marines shirt glows in the dark.

You can probably guess that the first and third (Assembly Cut) are my favorites. I finally got around to the game a few months agoâbought it and the DLC using Amazon points and gift cards, so considering it was all essentially free, Iâm satisfied. I didnât mind the human enemies; the third film established the companyâs willingness to use deadly force and now itâs progressed into open conflict. The developers even cared enough to include the Alien 3 PMCs.
