(SOLVED) Taiidan Carrier graphics issue in 2.0

I saw in another thread that there’s a texture problem with some of the motherships, and I thought I’d seen something similar with the carriers, so I looked. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough screenshots of the old carriers to compare, but while looking for that, I discovered a problem with the Taiidan carrier.

Along the upper edge of the Taiidan carrier’s U-shaped hull, there are black artifacts which didn’t seem to exist previous to 2.0. You can see the artifacts on one edge in the two following screenshots. They’re just forward (screen left) of the upper yellow lighted surface.

When changing the camera angle though, the black artifacts mostly disappear like in this screenshot.

Before 2.0, the black artifacts didn’t appear on the Taiidan carrier at that angle. The following is a screenshot taken a little over three weeks ago.

I quickly checked the other carriers and all of the motherships, and none of them showed anything quite like this.

All of the video settings are the same from before 2.0 to now… unless some were changed by the patch, and I didn’t notice them. (Edit: I looked at an old screenshot of the video settings, and the ones used now are the same as were used previously.)

To ensure that the problem wasn’t driver related, the first and third screenshots above are using the newest NVIDIA driver which was released today. The second and fourth screenshots above used the April 2016 driver package.

Also, the issue exists with SLI both on and off.

It’s just the way the glow map is handled, we’re rather unlikely to touch that sort of thing, but I’ll throw it on the pile :wink:

Hey I just find similar problem in Tanis base. This is more minor issue but may be there are more examples when we play the game we will see but the mothership texture is more visible problem and I hope will be fixed in the future patches.

Fixed in upcoming point-patch.

I run into this a lot when I’m abusing the glow and refl maps on my ships - did you approach it as a shader fix or a texture fix? Just curious. :slight_smile:

Shader - actually this morning first thing I did a wide range of small tweaks to the ship shader. MUCH cleaner when talking about glows of any sort. You’ll see soon!


Hey Dave talking about glows did you saw my thread with the glow of the ship engines

I did, but those aren’t bugs in our book, sorry! Ships have some variance to engines, and ships moving slow due to formations may not trigger their engines as much.

ok thanks than its intended the only thing that i notice is that sometimes the glow didn’t trigger when moving and intend to flicker.

The result is that I saw engine exhaust and brighter engine nozzles on all of the Hiigaran frigates and Destroyer while they moved together in the Capital Phalanx formation. None of them moved in a straight line without the engine being lit.

When turning, the engines flickered on and off, but once the ships started going in a straight line, their engines lit up really well."
