Some questions about character management

I used to feel this exact way about RLs in general in the BL franchise, but especially in BL3 - I had never even used them until about 6-8 months ago. I couldn’t stand RLs in BL1, kept a Norfleet or Topneaa for second winds only in BL2, and also wasn’t a huge fan in TPS either, although the Kaneda’s Laser was an interesting exception.

But in BL3 you have a few interesting RLs that have a lot of character synergies. The Plaguebearer has crazy synergies with all the VHs except Amara, but it’s still really good with her too. The Backburner is quite interesting as well, and even some of the Torgue launchers perform really well on Moze. You should give RLs a fair shot - especially the Plaguebearer, which is a really interesting and powerful RL for mobbing (oddly enough, because you’d think an RL would be too ammo-hungry to mob, but not so with the PB).

When I first played BL3 and got GR, I used GR. Explored what there was and thought it was nice to be able to somewhat technically level up some more. At one point I disabled GR to see the difference and was oddly shocked how strong it was. I went to complete every content without it and found it slighty more challenging and fun. I figured since it is post game unlocked, the game shouldn’t be balanced around it so I should be able to complete every/any content.

tl;dr I find it more challenging without it on which leads to being more fun.

I believe this likely is the case for most BL3 players - that is, that players forget how strong the Guardian Rank perks actually are. I have gotten to the point where I mostly leave it off but will turn it back on depending on the character I am playing (like for Fl4k I will turn it back on).

It’s a bit jarring and I wonder if it’s ok to be that powerful since it is more or less “earned”. Though i think that it kind of makes Builds a lesser part with GR being a thing. Perhaps just me.

@Knuffle I don’t have an issue with it either way, it really helps out some more marginal builds and also just Fl4k in general (Shield Reboot and Overkill in particular for them). It does feel to me like BL3’s skill trees were designed with GR usage in mind (GR complements the skill trees in most cases).

Pretty much what I mean. I suppose that is the highlight of GR. I don’t mind it being a thing. However, if they make a content balanced around something optional(GR in this instance) then I would be strongly against it and be more vocal aboot it.

1.) I usually go back to Sanctuary, but if I’m in Midnight’s Cairn or the Slaughterstar 3000 then I’ll stay there, because I play those the most anyway.

2.) Weapons are mostly just different elementals. Primary is a boom sickle with Moze, so that’s for generic use. Next two slots are Flippers that span 4 elements. And the last one is an old Cutsman that I use exclusively for busting open Wotan’s corpse.

3.) Poorly. My bank is flooded with gear for other characters that I don’t know how to evaluate. I keep telling myself “oh, I’ll make a new char and build around this” and then never do because I can’t bring myself to play someone who can’t digistruct a battlemech at will.

4.) My wall is my favorite old gear from level 60-63 that has either been surpassed or nerfed. So there’s a Kyb’s Worth (replaced by Flippers) and a different Boom Sickle with the fire nova anointment(no longer does mayhem-scaled millions of damage). Things like that.

5.) I still have a level 53 Cloning Maddening Tracker grenade that was gifted to me like a year ago. When Mayhem 2.0 came out and grenade damage was terrible, I’d use that for healing instead of a level 60+ one (the grenades were more dangerous to me than the enemy). I also have a Money Maddening Tracker that I’ll use if I’m ever not a billionaire. And there’s a pretty insane Blood Letter class mod that I’ll take out of I ever try that type of build again.

6.) Nope. At one point there was a question about one of them screwing with one of Moze’s skills, but I don’t remember which, and it didn’t.

7.) Back when the fire nova anoint was good, I liked the floaty death-head modifier because the death heads were 1-shotted by it. When that was nerfed, I think I preferred the one where enemies spawn elemental drones/turrets, because that actually felt kind of mayhem-y without being stupid or overwhelming.

8.) Currently doing a full lightning car with the floaty wheels, static charge field thing, and lightning gun, because those were the last ones I found. But I prefer a cyclone with the fire trail booster for looks, and maybe the disc weapon because it’s the only one with decent damage. Just started playing again since the Fall, so maybe this isn’t true anymore.

I wonder why they let us turn off GRs but not all the stupid mayhem scaling xD

  1. Sanctuary, except when farming for hours.
  2. I only use snipers (and a occasional x21stagecoach), It goes: 300/90 first, 200 asa 2nd and done. Sometimes stagecoach 3rd and rarely when purple dahl/maliwan: different elements in the 4 slots.
  3. Always full nowadays… I keep the guns that wont return, and I keep at least 1 version of every jakobs gun (a 300/90 and a 200ASA of every jakobs and maliwan legendary sniper), many version of purple dahl/maliwan proton rifle, Hyperion Narps and Tankmans, each fl4k mods for each manufacturers crit bonus or damage bonus (maliwan), grenades and artifacts for multiple builds. Bag always empty so I can collect and sell everything
  4. my first jakobs white muckamuck, the gun gun, guns that you can only get once that are from the deluxe stuff and the bekah.
  5. The ice queen, love this gun so much, shame it cant be anointed. and the its piss grenade, its lvl 50 so it wont hurt me.
  6. No, snipers are already less rewarding than faster guns as they are, Im already forcing my way through the game by sheer strength, I dont need to make my situation worse lol.
  7. Since Im all about damage: Big kick and holy crit (anything else is whatever). I absolutely HATE how the galaxy brain makes up for what gearbox failed at. the weird erratic movements of the mobs, mobs avoiding shots from their back, hitbox too small, so although galaxy brain would make my life easier, its ugly and makes me less skilled on the long run. I refuse to be inferior. (I guess its a joke lol)
  8. As “outworldly” as possible. Cyclone +ninja star paintjob+ white everything+ digithruster

Do tell - that’s not a weapon one hears praise for often.

IKR? Such a cool ( :smirk: ) design, its ok if its not buffed, although it would be great for viability, but Gearbox PLEASE allow all guns to have anointments so we can have even more diversity with builds and gameplay.

No, really - how are you using that? My default for using weaker guns is to turn down the Mayhem level until they hit as hard as I like.

  1. I’ll leave my character anywhere anytime. Some of them even just stay in particular spots like SS.

  2. Interesting question. I arrange them by element - Usually in the order of whatever I’m using for Shields then Red bar then Armor bar, last slot for no element or w/e extra I’m using.

  3. Always overflowing with stuff if I need space I might just toss ■■■■ on the ground.

  4. All the Pre-order items and a few temp quest items like rogue-sight.

  5. uh infinity I guess?

  6. Sometimes I’ll disable Topped Off for example to use Big Surplus on Moze better.

  7. I hate mayhem modifiers.

  8. Cyclone with hover I guess don’t really care about vehicles.

I don’t ever look in the loot machine it’s too tedious.

I use boosts now for vault cards, never before.

Madness

why would you walk all the way through the map again to farm the boss?

I simply struggle through lol, Get a cocky bastard to bypass the shield weakness it has (cryo) and roll through it since this gun synergy with the guardian perks are great. Although I have used The ice queen on op8 full cryo% build IDK if it can do much on op11 without an anointment, its been a minute since I tried to suffer with it.
