Story Mode - Idle & Disconnected Players

You are matched up with 4 other players in story mode; 2 disconnect while the other 2 go idle. You are left alone to complete the entire mission, and you cannot leave or else you will re-join that same match. What do you do?

This only happened to me once during the weekend I played the beta, but I think it should be addressed. There were plenty of other times when multiple players disconnected or you had one idle player.

At least for PVE, idle players should be tossed out and replaced within 5 minutes. The same guidelines should be used disconnects. An integrated voting system would be useful as well.

I have no problem doing a mission solo, but when you expect a coop mission it should be achievable.

(Note - I never actually tried to leave the game and join another. I am only going by what the quit screen told me, so I assumed it would just bump be back into the game with the 2 disconnects and 2 idle players. If this is not the case, let me know.)

You will be thrown back into that horrible idle game, you are right about that.

Anyways, I’m pretty sure Gearbox is already working on this because so many people(Including meeee!:mushroom:) have been complaining about it. ;p But it’s a very important thing, so I’m glad you pointed it out.

Thanks for the confirmation! I have been scanning the forums and saw a lot of complaints for the PVP side but not too many for the PVE.

Just wanted to make sure the PVE point of view was being established as well

It definitely is possible to do the missions solo. if you make a private match. That being said I remember a few times we waited for an hour on an idle player because we couldn’t activate all the golden plates in a mission. so I think maybe if they lower the amount of plates required to activate the next part of the story mission the problem will be more manageable.

Yeah, that indeed is very important! I’ve been in a match which was great and only 1 of those people was trolling and well… We couldn’t continue. :I No fun, really. It was just before the final boss, too. I believe in Gearbox, so I’m sure they will have the PERFECT solution for this when the game is finally here. (I’m also an extreme Battleborn fangirl and Battleborn can do nothing wrong. ĀÆ|(惄)/ĀÆ)

Edit: If a player goes afk, one of the platforms should simply disappear IMO.

Pretty sure the difficulty adjusts to the number of remaining players so I don’t have a problem with players disconnecting (unless I’m playing Reyna I guess).

Players going AFK would suck but there is a failsafe in the form of a 100min time limit on PvE missions.

I went AFK briefly one time because the batteries in my controller died; I was back in < 2 minutes since I had spares right there. My suggestion on AFK would be treating idle players as disconnected after some reasonable period of time (10 minutes?); having to sit out the max time limit just to get the reward when you are stuck shouldn’t be necessary. The only alternative would be to deliberately use up all remaining lives so as to fail the mission, but that wouldn’t be a popular option if you were close to completing. Elsewhere, there have been suggestions for a ā€œkick voteā€ mechanism.

The biggest problem with people going AFK is when they do it. It’s fine if it’s at the start of a combat section, but if it’s right before all the players need to stand on those pads that sucks. I’m willing to wait a bit because I know things can happen, but my time to play is usually pretty limited and I’d rather not waste it waiting for some potential troll.

if i stepped away for a min or two on PC i got a idle warning.

i assumed this was a warning i was about to get kicked and i made a thread to remove this for co op games where we are pre grouped with friends because we do step away for bio breaks and we are all in a voice call and we all know to wait.

but for random match making the idle timer to kick is a good idea

i totally agree.
