I redeemed the game for free on Epic, when I run it, claptrap swings from left to right for a while but then the game freezes. After the freeze I can hear some background noises in my headphones. I have tried every single thing I have found on some 3 years old forums post (Stuck on claptrap screen pls help - #32 by DivineWine)
but nothing seems to fix it. My PC specs are:
Win 10 64bit
Intel Core i5-3570 3.40GHz
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 2GB
which seem to be the minimum specs according to the official borderlands page (Borderlands 3 PC Specs Detailed)
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Open the config file in Notepad and see whether it’s set to DX11 or DX12. Whatever the current setting is, try changing it and saving out the file. Also empty the contents of the game’s local app data cache folder, then try relaunching.

unfortunately, I have already tried both of these solutions and they don’t seem to work for me. I have also tried just waiting for over 30mins using both DX11 and DX12.

All I can suggest is working through that entire list in the older thread and double-checking that you didn’t miss anything. For example, did you check your sound settings? There have been multiple issues with those, especially with certain sound driver extensions. Deleting the temp data cache would also be a good idea since if the process had generated bad data while inititalizing the shaders, it could be trying to read that same bad data from the cache.

  1. Exit all instances of Borderlands and any launcher associated (Epic Games)
  2. Go to Documents > My Games > Borderlands 3 > Saved > Config > WindowsNoEditor.
  3. Edit “GamerUserSettings.ini”
  4. Replace PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX12 with PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX11.
  5. Launch the game.

As already stated in the post, I have tried every single thing I have found on an old thread about this problem, your solution being one of them ;/

I am having the same problem. What Config file is this? The only relevant “Config” I could find on my Mac was Library > Application Support > GearboxSoftware > Unreal Engine > 4.20 > Saved > Config, which itself further expands > MacNoEditor > Manifest.ini, which contains nothing more than:

[Manifest]
Version=2

A quick google suggests that you try ~/Library/Preferences/OakGame/MacNoEditor

The manifest file is more likely to be associated with the installation process.

That folder exists, but there is no Config file there; all the text files there are blank (1 byte).

nvm on reddit thy are saying my computer doesn’t have the required drivers

did anyone find anything new? mine just started doing it. it ran fine for 100+ hours, then after quitting last time it froze windows and now it just gets stuck on the claptrap loading screen pegging 2 cores to full cpu forever.

edit: I mean claptrap stops his animation and it just stops there, process unresponsive pegging the cpu

further, it’s not savegames, and resetting the configs etc. no help, prior to that changing to dx12 no help. the crash(stuck) does not produce crash logs so gearbox will not see any.

resolution: after a bunch of times doing the same thing and several reboots it started working, eh
