I stuck in a ticket yesterday, my response was as follows:

Hello there,

Thank you for contacting 2K support.

I would like to inform you that our development team is currently working on this particular claptrap issue as we speak. This issue seems to be affecting a lot of our Gamers. As soon as we come up with a positive solution for this issue our dedicated Gamers will be the first one to know about it.

In the meantime I would like you to sit back while we work on updates.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Thanks,

Prem . P

Browsing the Technical Support forums, you can see a wide range of bugs with varied game impact. I fully expected launch weekend of a large online multiplayer FPS to be somewhat rough around the edges. This however was unexpected and I have to say I am disappointed. From a franchise with an enormous fan base like Borderlands I would have at least expected to be able to actually play the game. 60 dollars to a triple-A game developer I require more than a dancing Claptrap simulator.

Same for me since today… Yesterday i played like 15 h and today my pc reboots after loading screen

*no reinstallation worked for me * Go into document> My games > Borderlands 3 > Saved > Config > WindowsNoEditor > GameUserSettings Switch dx12 to dx11 save, then reboot game worked for me

Doing this does not work for some of us. My DX11 is up to date too. Ive tried windows 8.1 and a few versions of 10 now. Updated all drivers on my PC. Updated my bios. Modified the .ini files. Deleted the borderlands Cache files just in case it was somehow geting hung up. I’ve also Deleted the entire WindowsNoEditor file so the game would recreate it. I’ve uninstalled multiple times. Tried running running as admin. Launching outside of epic store. Cleared all registry errors. Still nothing. I’ve submitted tickets but got back an automated response asking me everything I’ve tried to fix this issue yet I said what I’ve all done in my first ticket. Support is trash rn, and I’m almost certain there are two versions of the same issue. DX11 is not loading like DX12 wasn’t for some users and there are other users who can only get in on DX11 and 12 doesn’t work at all for either of us.

After trying DX12, I was stuck in the infinite Claptrap dancing loading screen. Reverting back to DX11 using the ā€œ.iniā€ file is what fixed it for me.

I was also getting frequent crashes. I put all video settings to their lowest in Windowed, 1080, no v-sync, unlimited framerate. I have had no crashes since lowering the settings, but it’s only been about 1/2 hour.

I will update this post if I crash again.

Update as promised. Even with all settings at low, I am still getting frequent random crashes. Crashes seem more prevalent when playing multiplayer when I have Discord open, but I don’t have data to back up that anecdotal sense.

I fixed my issue by letting the game sit on the Claptrap loading screen. It eventually started up and I was able to change the settings back to DX11

LISTEN UP EVERYONE!
I might have found a solution for your problems! Try starting borderlands in a ā€œclean bootā€ of windows.
Instructions on how to do it here: https://support.microsoft.com/sv-se/en/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows
Follow all the steps and restart your computer. Then start borderlands. It’s basically starting windows with no other programs running in the background thus stopping them from interfeering with the game. Seems like there are programs that hinder the game from starting up properly, atleast in my case. Hope it works for you!

Thank you! This fixed my problem. Did exactly what op did just to test things out. lol

Having kinda the same problem here, I’ve tried everything this thread says and the closest I’ve gottten to play the game is after waiting 20 minutes on the claptrap dance screen (with dx12 enabled, dx11 will just freeze at the claptrap screen), the game tries to startup and just freezes at the screen that says all the ā€œ2k games and borderlands are registered trademarksā€¦ā€ thing. Still waiting for a solution.

Edit: With the new 26/09/2019 patch my game will instantly crash if I try to execute it with DX12.

I’ve come to terms with gearbox not fixing this issue… It’s a massive problem and they would’ve patched it quicker then they have if they could, so don’t get your hopes up everytime there’s a patch.

Still have the problem even with the ā€œpatchā€.

I may be wrong but the patches only effect people when you can actually get onto the main menu as that’s where you activate the patches, so anyone stuck on the claptrap issue (and if people are still stuck, could you respond with what you have tried) then anything they add with a ā€œpatchā€ won’t actually fix the issue, it’ll be an actual downloadable update within the epic launcher that may include a fix, if they even Do fix it… The game is still full of bugs and issues with people crashing for just standing still xD so the games a mess right now, but it hasn’t had it’s big (hopefully) 30day update which will be out in a week or so hopefully.

The DX12 loading screen for me took almost 20 minutes the first time i seen Claptrap dancing. Since then it’s usually 3-5 min load. It sucks to wait but DX11 just micro stutters like hell on my PC. DX12 is way smoother. Framerate still sucks balls 45-60fps on an RTX 2060 at ALL settings on LOW.

I believe you’re referring to the hotfixes, not the update. Hotfixes indeed get loaded in after the game is fully loaded whereas the update is a true code patch that’s loaded as part of the launch process.

The first patch didn’t have a huge number of fixes in it so it’s quite possible it isn’t addressing the claptrap screen issue. There is a much larger update in the works, but the time-line for release is not clear yet.

I went into the DOCUMENTS folder after same issue,
C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
find in game user settings this PreferredGraphicsAPI=(DX12) and change the 12 to 11
close/save now mine works no more clap runnin by forever \o
