I’ll stop you there, because some of the things you’ve written require a commentary
Yup, but games like LoL are alike, and yet “a success”. There must be more into it than simply “too complex”, maybe, I don’t know, it’s being bad explained?
Hell, he is still being advertised poorly and to the wrong crowd, specifically to unspecified crowd of “badasses”. As for the unfair comparison - Gearbox participates in that quite willingly, they are the first to blame.
Funny you write this, as the one thing I’ve been noticing since like 3-4 months or so is a complete silence on Battleborn in media, no bad mouth, no mouth at all, silence. They don’t even criticize Bb any more, they’ve set up a tomb on the game’s grave months ago.

The game only has a “grave” in Pc, consoles are fine (not sure on PS4 though epicenders experience seems fine) and everytime battleborn gets an update or is brought up, it’s well "well battleborn thing to get up again man this is a stupid game"
And the like, it’s you cant put marketing on gearbox first, that’s ALL on producer and that’s fact, and for every kind of badass met playstyle of characters

Yet there is deathly silence in media on Battleborn brand as a whole not just PC part. And this is it’s funeral, it just isn’t newsworthy anymore. Heck, I bet it never was, just the controversies behind it.
BTW Where it has been brought up lately?
No one puts marketing on Gearbox - except maybe when they speak out their mind in media. Gearbox screwed technical part, 2K screwed on marketing department, but let’s not forget that those two have to cooperate on some interdisciplinary tasks too.
As for marketing slogan, it’s “the hero-shooter for every kind of badass” (see Battleborn forum main page).

And that slogan actually FITS, how did battleborn screw up technically, it was released early if anything, once again it’s no funeral, the game is fine on consoles, look at the media it’s they go over the updates and operations and just bash it mindlessly, and bring up battleborn in the media and watch what happens

Fits if you think of directly competing with other hero-shooters …like Overwatch. Do you?
Also: hero-shooter is a big name for a game where 1/3rd of the crew is melee and lots of ranged classes aren’t actual shooters (Ernest, Benedict, Alani, Miko, Orendi, ISIC, Kleeese, Toby, Kid Ultra).
Overwatch=shooter
Team Fortress 2=shooter

I met, for every kind of badass, as in oscar mike standard FPS playstyle, miko healer, marquis the sniper, pheobe the duelist, I could go on
Agree to disagree
And it’s called a MOBA

The closest I’ve been able to define BB is “FPS MOBA” though the “MOBA” classification ignores the whole of the PvE side of the game, which is a major selling point imo (since there isn’t any PvE in its competitors).

Isn’t this funny? How we can’t find a single word to describe battleborn?
I guess we need a new word for this mix bag.
First person hero
First person battle arena

Well, I think that’s been part of BB’s problem from the beginning. It’s hard to define because it’s doesn’t adhere to existing classifications, and people tend to be afraid of things that they can’t classify or explain easily. Combine that with a steep learning curve (which, when combined with the other deviations from the norm, is going to turn off a lot of people that consider themselves experts and expect to master the game effortlessly) and you end up with a game that gets lots of bad reviews by people that barely played the game (like most critics).

I can only say that my standard for First Person [Perspective] Shooter was built by Quake, Half-Life and Counter-Strike and it simply requires various guns firing a projectiles at enemies - no classes and such required, just plain shooting things in FPP.
Oh, oki.

Sometimes I find it “helps” to remember that nearly all of the groundbreaking, visionary development studios of the pioneering 90s are dead. Even Blizzard today isn’t the same studio that made Diablo 1 and 2 - that was the now defunct Blizzard North.
Looking Glass Studios. Microprose. OSI (Origin.) Black Isle. ION Storm. New World Computing. Sir-Tech. And the list goes on.
The truth is, nobody survives forever in this business, even if they make great (classic, genre defining) games. So I’d rather they make those great games and take risks, because chasing immortality is futile.

i was upset when the news hit that Irrational games had closed up for good after the last of Bioshock infinite’s DLC had been released. They created two of my favourite games of all time, the original Bioshock being a classic now. I never really understood why. Ken Levine said something about wanting to focus on more story/narrative indie type games (or something like that anyway) so they all parted ways (again, something like that). It may have been money issues also, but still, it was upsetting. I never thought they would, but they did. I thought Infinite was a pretty big success, especially burial at sea, but I guess it wasn’t enough

Yeah I still see articles on things like the winter update. They mostly just say how welp, there’s a thing. Woohoo. Back to biotic grenade
Yup. I haven’t played in a week or two though so maybe it died?
To you talking about absolutely no media presence

I would agree except for this.
This trailer is full of emotion and possibility, and not much else. It does not give you the slightest clue about what gameplay is like. There is very little here to appeal to a purely logical person. About he biggest clue it gives to gameplay is showing melee and ranged characters fighting side by side.
Oh right. But wait, there’s more!
This one is a real piece of work. I’m sure someone put a lot of time into this, considering how long it is. Don’t bother sitting through the the whole thing. But it actually give a better plot synopsis than you will get anywhere in the game in my opinion. Here is where they advertise the “lore”. If I were logically trying to pick apart these trailers to decide to buy the game or not, I think the answer is clear. This game is a jumbled mess.
Oh well. I guess I’m not very logical either. That teaser hit me hard and had me listening to that song and daydreaming about the awesome game that it could be.

Same. Then I forgot about the game for what felt like a year and then saw Overwatch and got excited until I realized it wasn’t the right game. Then Battleborn popped up.

The game is not a jumbled mess though, and that boot camp trailer does just fine
1 Like
I meant judging by the trailers alone, it seems like a jumbled mess. In fact other than the same characters, each trailer could be for a different game.
I did say that the boot camp trailer gave a good plot overview, but it is long winded and makes a poor substitute for a decent prologue and tutorial in game.

It explains the modes just fine and the characters are supposed to be quirky, this seems really to be opinion more than anything, and while apparently this may be wrong considering what overwatch did, people in the end want gameplay, not cinematics (unless telltale or telltale like games I geuss)
