I believe i’ve figured out the issue (at least for myself). I have the skill in Moze’s SoR tree which takes health when reloading in exchange for incendiary damage. This skill will activate even if you cancel a reload, which I do a lot because i’m tossing infinite grenades and trying to regenerate ammo. So if i’m cancelling reload after reload quickly, my health is very quickly depleting to 1.
So it seems the game considers “reloading” to be when you start the animation, rather than when you’ve loaded the clip. This is possibly to nerf anointed magazine skills for Moze? It would make sense
On graveward, when he tilts the ground, sliding with projected shield, insta kills me without taking any damage. The corrosive jello balls are just being spawned so its not them…

The same thing happened to me. It wasn’t happening before until I equipped a Front Loader (I also have Thin Red Line). I think it happens when he creates a line of flames at the center of the platform.

The projected shield is one of the issue, any projected shield don’t cover you.
As for the random OS, I have another theory :
Some enemy hit so hard they basically OS anything. Health is “hard protected”, meaning that, without bug, you can never get OS, you can at most lose x% of your health in one hit. Shield is not.
It’s especially obvious when you compare a deathless and a rough rider build.
- You have a lot more shield point with deathless than HP with rough rider
- Small continuous attack kill you effecively in rough rider, but are laughable with shield
- Big attack usually only take half of your hp off in rough rider, but often OS or near OS you with deathless

I don’t think the projected shield is a factor. Here’s what happened: I have Thin Red Line and Loaded Dice. I equipped Front Loader because I wanted to see if it would increased my damage due to lower health %. I ended up at 1 hp, similar to Deathless. I killed GW at the center of the platform and my character would instantly just go into FFYL. There was no animation of him doing any attacks. It’s only happened twice, so I’m not sure.

When he flip the plateform, you’re considered to be sliding, and hence your shield is considered projected. Might be an issue

So could it be that reserved health is like missing health and 1 hp means u r not above healthgate?

Yeah, this one is for sure. Tested it, died. Any “One shot” attack don’t OS me with rough rider, but OS me with deathless. Deathless make you loose the healthgate

That sounds like it may be wise to spend only 2 points in Thin Red Line because that will leave you with 60% health, so healthgate is still there. With 3 points you’re left with 40%, so healthgate is completely gone. Correct?

Why did they add things like 1 hitpoint artifacts and 3/3 skills that reduce your health pool to below health gate level? Maybe they should fix health gating for those specific things or there’s really no point in running with them.
I have had that happen to me alot as well. Yesterday i was in slaughter shaft and i got downed after finnishing off last enemies . Looked at mini map and there wasnt any enemies on it anywhere . It was like a late hit after i already defeated all enemies because of a weird lag spike or something .
I’m having the same problem I have 1k sheild and I’m running fl4k and I’m getting killed and no damage is being done to my sheild
Same issue here with a projected shield. Only legendary shield I’ve found with a decent bloody harvest mod and its the one that lowers my hp by 60% and rolled with Projected. Not getting one shot but dying way too much. He’s off with no shield at all. How is this still a thing?

Edit 2: Pretty confident the issue is elemental damage (including DoT) while crouching, maybe some AoEs as well, because at least most of the time normal bullets don’t kill me. Sometimes they may, but I can’t be sure it wasn’t something else. But it’s never happened 1v1 on a non-elemental MoB while crouching. Yet while crouching while I have a DoT on me immediately ticks away my health and doesn’t touch my shield.

It’s due to the projected part. When you crouch (project the shield) any damage that doesn’t hit the physical projected shield (that you can see) will hit your hp instead. You are actually taking the shield off of your body and putting it out in front of you.

I get that, but some attacks (like the spitter things that spawn with grogs or whatever they are called or Maliwan heavys etc.) just fly right through it and hit my face. It should at least act as a physical barrier to projectiles. Even skulls fly right through it. Using that logic, it still doesn’t make sense as it is now.
Edit: The sword guys also throw their weapons right through it. When I turned around, crouched, my shield and hp both took damage at the same time from an elemental weapon from one trooper in the Heck Hole. As in they would both tick per hit I took. A bandit, when I was turned around and crouching, only damaged my shield.
I’ve also insta-died several times while standing with my shield above 12K from normal troopers and the like, so something is definitely off.

They need to rework the projection in my opinion. The projection and the player should both share the same shield resource bar, just the projected portion takes less damage.
