Terrible Performance on High End PCs

perhaps also saying which version of Windows is used would help ?
I heard some really strange behavior with windows10 on other games (primarily because of stuff running in the background, like a specific service for xbox idontrememberwhatexactly)

I run windows 10 and I should clarify that I believe my slowdown was due to a massive memory leak that I haven’t been able to track down. After closing all games/programs and seeing my memory usage was 84% of my 16GB, I couldn’t fault the game much for slowing down.

…unless it was a major contributing factor in the memory leak.

Here’s another thread on BBI forums that might help in pinpointing the issue:

There’s a video included that shows the performance issue I’m having which may be CPU related:

Just found some benchmarks of the frame rates I SHOULD be getting:

http://gamegpu.ru/rts-/-strategii/homeworld-deserts-of-kharak-test-gpu.html

The 980 Ti is benchmarking at a minimum of 96fps and a max of 124fps on a system similar to mine, which means me and others are getting 2-3x worse performance for some reason.

Welcome to the joys of PC gaming. Here’s a spot for your coat, you’ll be here a while.

Can the devs feel the burn?
Anyway they sealed the fate of this game’s performance the moment they chose Unity.

It’s not that the game performance is poor on all systems, just some - which is even more frustrating since the cause might be hard to pinpoint.

But I agree, I haven’t had good experiences performance wise with any Unity game. If the issue isn’t fixed for this game I may avoid all Unity games in future.

The Unity engine is very CPU intensive that’s why. So that + RTS game + ā€œunoptimizedā€ coding = Nothing good for sure.
The proof to that is my personal experience. All settings maxed - at the start of a skirmish normal FPS but 10-15 minutes into the game and it’s like slow-mo to me. R9 270X, Intel G3220 - so you do the math why.

So it looks like you’re suffering from the same issue. If you look online a bit you can see that many people with systems similar in power to yours can max out the settings and get close to perfect performance.

unplayable at 10 fps for the moment.

Windows 10

Options change does not take affect anything since it says, whatever option i change, my hardware won“t work properly which may cause performance issues.

as a sidenote i can almost run every up to date game on atleast high settings.

Not sure if this applies to anyone here, but I recently noticed that, as of a week ago, almost all of my games were running at horribly low FPS. I have a gaming laptop with Windows 10 on it, and typically my games run buttery smooth on highest settings.

Thoroughly miffed, I went looking at my CPU usage only to find that an entire core was devoted to running Windows Update behind the scenes!

I went and checked my settings and noticed that the automatic updates had been switched on again (after I had explicitly deactivated it upon installation of Windows 10).

Now things run perfectly fine again.

TLDR, if you have Windows 10, check your automatic update settings; they could be screwing you over.

since windows 10 demands updates automated, how did you switch them off?

pls give step by step information.

Definitely not the case with me and I’ve never had this issue. Windows 10 should always take into account what the user is doing on the PC and apply updates in the background without interference.

This sounds like an issue with the game picking the integrated graphics to run rather than GPU. You can probably fix this by forcing the game to run with your video card.

Another user with poor performance on a high end system:

thank you for your answer but i already checked that, seems that they did not include my hardware to the needed profile maybe?

same damn problem…
specs:
lenovo y50-70 laptop
win_10

i7-4710HQ
gtx 860m
16gb ram

got 10 fps on med. or low. graphic settings. Is there a some patch or solution?

Patch? Nope. Solution? Not yet. Time seems to be the only fix at the moment… forums.blackbirdinteractive.com is the place to go.

check

the last thing i posted, worked wonders for me. maybe it will help you 2

OK, since I’ve had similarly poor performance with Cities Skylines on my
PC which is another Unity game, I suspect it’s the same Unity bug:

What’s discouraging is that Colossal Order either hasn’t been able to
(or didn’t bother to) fix this issue and it’s been ages since release.

Hopefully BBI can be a more responsible dev and look into it or at least
let us know if it’s going to be fixed or not.
