I’ve stated this before, but I think characters with very high mobility are going to be decent picks. They can navigate the smaller maps with ease by jumping up the ledges and whatnot. After playing a few games, the only map that I’d say that doesn’t support this, is Ziggurat. It’s far too open IMO, so I reckon the CC tanks would be better picks on that map.
Other characters that I can see being really good picks are Attikus, Shaurox, Boldur and Montana. Out of the supports however, I’ve only seen Ambra be somewhat useful.
The most successful team comp that I’ve come up against so far, was Ambra, Deande, and Montana. We ended up playing a really close game, (our team was Deande, Mellka, and Rath), with the score being 275-272 in our favour; we only won because we got a kill on the Deande in the last couple of seconds. Seriously, they were a nightmare to play against.
I’m not sure how good the Attikus was, but I found that quick harassers like Caldarius and Mellka can take up a lot of his time while your team scores points.
Also played a 3v3 Incursion mode…not a big fan. It takes a long time to do anything because there’s just not enough firepower on either side.
Snipers and back-line defenders (ie ISIC), with the possible exception of Thorn are absolutely useless 3v3.
I direct you to post #7, my good sir! With only three characters for the enemy team to chose, they cannot afford to waste two on counter-picking Toby, which is the minimum number a skilled Toby should be able to handle and still preform acceptably. Out of those counters, only Thorn seems like she’d be able to stay alive, because of her mobility, and her wave clear is the best of Toby’s counters as well. Honestly, Montana (pseudo-hard-counter) would probably pose the biggest threat to Toby on Supercharge, as the maps are small, and Montana can tank a stun mine and still chase.
On the bigger maps, I feel there’s too much “empty space” for Toby to be effective. In Supercharge, I just don’t think he’s mobile enough. He’s not as fragile as Marquis.
To be fair, I haven’t seen any Toby players in game yet.
NOT MOBILE ENOUGH?! 30% moment speed on his forcefield, and three (or four) boosters say i ought to flipper-slap you! Plus, Toby can hold a lane in Meltdown by himself, if he isn’t ganged up on; why would the lane in Supercharge be any different without a ranged DPS character focusing him? I suppose a melee tank could f*ck him up quite a bit before lvl. 4, but after that, Toby can fend off everything but a gang-up with stun-mines. Plus, i have two teammates.
Because Supercharge maps have lots of tight spaces and verticality. I love Toby’s boosters, but with his bulk and the pace of these matches I’m not sure how well he’ll move around.
You are right, i will need to see the maps to know what i am working with before i can say “yea” or “nea” to Toby being a top pick. HOWEVER, do all three players NEED to move around? I am honestly asking. Toby is best at the end of a lane, and firing hurt down it. Is there anything BESIDES other players keeping me from staying in lane? Because, if not, i am not terribly worried. I will have to wait roughly 5 hours to see though…
Even if Toby sucks on the mode, don’t let me catch you playing anyone else. You won’t find me without my claw on this weekend (well, unless my friends beg me to play something else, haha)
Moving around helps because there’s a lot to do in very little time. Competitive matches go maybe 7-8 minutes with pad capturing, wave clearing, Elite spawning, shard collecting, and buildables all involved and handled by only 3 people.
@EdenSophia Mellka and Caldarius are very good in Supercharge. Lots of upward escapes and harassing the tanks.
