The beta was less than amazing fun

First and for most. As this game is right now, it does not warrenty a 79.99 CDN price tag. This is a $30 dollar game OR rework your “cash shop” and release it F2P.

The only fun I had was the humor of the story missions. The dialogue, especially Geoff, was the highlight of the game. Clearly gearbox has a sense of humor.

Now for the cons…Deep breath
I think most of the things I have issues with in this have been stated several times on these forums. The pvp maps are a thoughtless cluster ■■■■ in design. For me, it’s mostly the color pallet choices. Green and red don’t work well in that environment. Heros are unbalanced and FAR TOO MUCH TRASH LOOT! Also when picking a load put before a match, would be nice to have a hover tool tip pop up giving me the specs of my 3 pieces of gear in each loadout. The meltdown map is the worst. Complete cluster ■■■■ of nonsense.

Story missions were fun tho! Level designs was pretty good but, I never felt challenged. Even on my first run through. The most challenging thing was figuring put what the ■■■■ the helix was all about.

The helix could be made a little more user friendly. I think most players won’t memorize every skill in the game. So In the helix when you have a write up saying " will raise the damage of Boom ■■■■ by 10%" well which skill is Boom ■■■■? E? F? Q? Right Click? Who knows! I think it’d go a long way adding “Boom ■■■■ (E)” to those helix things.

Melee characters field of vision is too narrow. Far too much trash loot. Make finding an item a “holy ■■■■ sweet” experience, and make that loot have meaning. In EVERY SINGLE MATCH whether it was pve or pvp I couldn’t notice a difference after I activated my gear. I think giving gear more meaningful properties would go a long way. Like "a sword that adds 30 dmg to every hit " vs 6 un noticeable percent. I dunno. To me they felt useless, even of mathematics said otherwise.

It didn’t help that this open beta happened the same weekend I got into the Overwatch beta…that game is polished and balanced and I’d pay 79.99 for that.

I my opinion. Release Battleborn as f2p . Make characters on a free rotation. Or earn through crazy achievements, or buy. Make gear leas frequent and more meaningful. Make the story missions somthing players would pay for. Maybe 3 missions for 10 bucks. So if they buy all 9 ( I think there’s 9) that’s 30 bucks. Then buying characters etc.

This game will FAIL if it launches as is for 79.99.

My final thought. Kudos to the design ideas. Moba meets fps meets rpg RNG loot systems but…these 3 genres or elements should not be mixed. Atleast, not in the way that you have it currently. I hope you take these comments to heart and delay the game or, rethink the business model.

I wholeheartedly agree. I did not enjoy the PvP and loved the story missions. With only a promis of 8 missions with an eventual 13, it is not worth that price if I will not play half the game.

Sorry you did not like the game, I personally loved it even though I saw it had a lot of flaws.

I think you are looking at some digital deluxe edition because the main game is 59.99, the 79.99 includes the season pass with like 5 new characters, single player story maps, and skins that they will release every other month or something i believe.

Anyway i think this game offers a lot in comparison to lets say Overwatch who has 21 heroes and only 2 playable PvP features. Battleborn has 25 starting hero with 5 more planed, 8 story missions with 5 more planned, and 3 pvp modes on two different maps. Plus the best part of the game, you can split screen any of these features. Overwatch and Battleborn cost the same amount but it seems they have a vastly different amount of quantity.

In the end though the worth of this game is what your willing to pay for it based on your enjoyment.

you can also pretend it was a free to play game and you went ahead and spent $60 on characters and skins and taunts and gear and character keys and mision packs… it worked for me.

also, i played the past overwatch closed beta and for me it is´the other way around, not enough content and too shalow matches, still ill wait and play the open beta and decide if i buy it, but so far, i played battleborn enough to notice that player progression is in you, not in the numbers. that being said, a 5% on mele speed is not too much on theory but applied to actual progression, yo go from 90 damage to 260 damage at the end of the match and that’s a lot of advantage.

still this is not battlenet, as much as you love overwatch, bashing battleborn because you like overwatch better does not make me want to play overwatch, on the contrary, it gives me the impression that the comunity is toxic and even when im an active battlenet user, im never bashing overwatch in favor of battleborn as much as i like it better.

they are both good games, each in its own niche, and im still thinking about getting overwatch, but there’s too much people bashing battleborn for it to give me the impression the comunity is not toxic. still, well see at may when the open beta goes live.

cheers.

Unlike Borderlands, this game’s ‘trash’ loot is automatically added into your Bank instead of being able to manually avoid them.

I hope they do something about it, because you really do get a lot of unwanted stuff in the Bank.

Red and green? You mean the team colors? You can change those.

Enjoy the campaign in Overwatch. You won’t have to worry about loot there either.

While I don’t necessarily understand the differences in price structures, I don’t think a game will “fail” at certain price. Not trying to bring in bad mojo but it sounds like you just didn’t like it. If you don’t feel it’s worth the asking price, you don’t have to buy it at release. There are often sales on newer games relatively soon after they’ve launched; you can always wait a few weeks and see if the game is still going strong.

I, for one, didn’t enjoy the story missions at all. I felt they were too long, repetitive, boring, rote, and tried way to hard to force humor. However, I thought the PVP hit all the right notes in such an addictive, hilarious, and mind-blowing way that I can’t avoid paying whatever price they’re going to ask for it. I won’t be buying the season pass considering it will be all story missions. If you feel the price is too much and you’re only looking to play the story, wait until a GOTY edition is released (you know there will be one) with all the extra story missions.

But to say “the game is going to fail” because you didn’t like or understand some aspects of it (your helix argument is bonkers, I didn’t have a single issue understanding each skill in the single moment it took to read it and choose one; same with your meltdown criticism, the map is symmetrical and easy to understand after 1 or two tries) is way too… entitled? Again, not trying to be rude, I just don’t feel the need to play doomsayer.

If it was F2P you would end up spending alot more than 60 euro’s (or your regional equivalent).
F2P ones are done in such a way that, if you want to keep up you have to keep buying new gear and what not, which in the end will cost your more than the price BB will go for.

So no, Battleborn won’t be free to play.

What I’m saying is, F2P has a huge asterix attached to it called P2W. And I personally rather shelf 60 upfront and gett future characters and PvP maps for free (with DLCs being optional things) than having to shelf alot more to keep up with the rest.

If they made the loot overpowered then PvP would be even more unbalanced. The other issues you mentioned are mostly cosmetic and unlikely to cause the game to fail.

By the way telling someone they will fail is not a very nice thing to say, be it a company or an individual. Especially since in this case I think it is unwarranted. Just my 2c.

I’ll take this topic for what it’s worth, it is a opinion and nothing more. Different strokes for different folks.

Me personally, I loved the game, pve and pvp alike. PVE was extremely fun, love that the missions were long as it gave me and my buds time to crack jokes about the batter between characters. PVP was a blast too, during the last day of the Beta we all just kept going ‘random’ on the character select and laughing as we would lose horribly or win by the skin of our teeth.

Again, like this thread, take it for what it’s worth, my opinion.

The pvp maps were hit and miss. Meltdown was my favorite but incursion had many design issues. I’d be interested if you elaborated why the meltdown map was bad.

Heroes are fairly balanced, a lot of people will support this statement, there are some problem areas but nothing that can’t be easily and quickly fixed.

“Trash loot” doesn’t exist. Every loot has its purpose, a less powerful piece of loot costs less to activate, which is of the utmost importance in multiplayer.

Opening the helix also opens your skill information, at the bottom it shows you every skill, it’s description, and it’s button. All of that information is in the same place. Your suggestion to add the keypress to the name on the helix isn’t bad, but it’s ultimately superfluous.

You can increase FOV. If that’s still not big enough for you, I’m not sure what to say.

Adding 30 damage to every hit would be way too massive of an increase, and loot is meant to tweak your experience, focus them in on aspects that you want, not define the character. Rath will always be rath if you put a damage reduction item on him, or an attack increase item on him.

I’m not even going to comment on the idea of making this game f2p.

Other things I will state that I LIKED about the game. Mechanics wise, it played great. Each hero felt unique and played well to its design. Movement was fluid. Art style was great. Sound and overall scoring was quite well too.

To add to my comment about the helix menu and the skills…obviously yes, if you took a moment to read the full description of the page you knew what skill was what. To remember that for a new hero was another thing. Having the added keying in (₩) would just be a great UI bonus. When it comes to team color, I didn’t know you could change it.
Meltdown sucked purely because I didnt like the gameplay of it. Escorting minions so they could be destroyed…I still hold to too much trash loot.

Something I forgot to mention entirely…character skins…changing the colors a bunch of times doesn’t really cause any WOW factor. If ur gonna make “character skins” that lazy, you should give us players the tools to color our own. I mastered paint by numbers years ago, I think I can handle changing Thorns outfit from green to blue.

they said several times in several places about the skin tiers.

for short, higher tiers are not unlocked in the betas, but there will be at least another two higher tiers, like a zombie kleese and a vitrolic kelvin and flamey toby, and several costume-changing kins that have not been shown anywhere and they are waiting for the launch date to be closer. at least, that’s what’s the word around

Honestly, this topic feels more like hating than actually giving feedback.
Loot sucks, this sucks, that sucks. Damn dear, you could have been a bit nicer. T_T

I feel like you have not read enough about the game, and have not played it enough.
IMO, Helix was very user friendly. I mean, all your abilities could be seen in the helix menu so it was pretty easy to figure out what abilities damage was raised…
I just sold all the loot I didn’t want… No big deal.
And I saw a huge difference when I activated gear.

There are 3 tiers of character skins. Tier 1 is recolors, tier 2 is themed skins, tier 3 is remodels. The beta only showed us tier 1, which makes quite some sense because… It’s a Beta.

Anyways, I respectfully disagree with about everything you said(Except for: Story is fun)
