Well, this is still more cheerful than the news I’ve been following, which is basically that America’s case chart is climbing mount Coronavirus. And deaths just spiked by nearly a third compared to the same day last week.
Got admit, it’s nice to see positive news, especially since we seem to be firmly entrenched in second wave here and the hospitalization and mortality rates are rising in response.
America never seems to have even left the first honestly. It’s incredible to witness. There’s this sense that such things just don’t happen, that they’re anomalies. The thing is though, improbable things happen all the time, just less often than the opposite. That’s why they’re improbable, not impossible.
I’m worried people from those cities will come to our area. We have 0 active cases right now…
And a double post rant.
My step sister lives in Alberta and is going through a bad divorce (drugs are involved with the husband). My step dad wants to drive out there with my mom to stay with her for 2 weeks.
Le sigh… I get they are both in pain but this is fricken stupid. Each province has it’s own rules and I learned of Manitobas UBER strict covid laws, eg your quarintined at the hotel for 2 weeks if you use one.
Step dad is ■■■■■■■ dead set on going and I dunno how to talk him out of it. My mom is bipolar and if they get stuck somewhere and she runs out of meds…
I offered to lend them a webcam and headset and set up the PC so step dad and sis can talk face to face… (my mom and step dad are inept at anything PC so I’d have to show them how) wondering if that would bring them comfort.
My step dad is a fricken bone head at times so it can be hard to talk him out of things he is dead set on. I get the emotions but you gotta be logical and make sacrifices in a pandemic…
We just set a new one day high for new cases in America. I’ve said before I was worried about this, but at this point all I can say is be careful.
We’re number 1? Three cheers for obstinacy and willful ignorance? Woo hoo?
Seriously folks, be careful. You can’t fix stupid, but if you try really hard you can avoid a fair amount of it.
Not sure if it’s worldwide, to be clear I meant it’s the highest number of new cases we’ve seen in one day. It might be, but I’d have to track down the right chart for that.
I think it’s just here in the US. I believe I’ve seen that several places today. Other places are seeing spikes and experiencing second waves, but th e majority of the US still hasn’t seen the first wave fully recede. Here in NYC we were in pretty good shape for a bit, so maybe you could say it’s a second wave here, but that’s the exception rather than the rule. My neighborhood was considered a high risk area week before last and only fell out of that last weekend. FML. Can’t wait for the Covie themed beer pong sets where the balls have little protein spikes on them. You know there’s someone waiting for enough time to pass before sending it to market.
From vague recollection if you meant in absolute terms only India could compete. And I’m unsure if they’ve had higher or not honestly, since I rarely page through that kind of data.
Regardless, NY is from when I looked at a state chart a bit ago, still holding things down. It’s one of the few states where things are still holding actually, most are either at high daily case counts or rising. It’s actually unusual how spread it is.
A couple weeks back we had scary bumps in a bunch of places. They had schools open in September part time and then shut them down suddenly a couple of weeks ago, only reopening Monday IIRC. There are still a couple of red zones North of the city now, but that’s because the clamps came down quick. My friend in the burbs tested positive just the other week (thankfully mild symptoms and she seems to be recovering well), but that just goes to show that even low numbers don’t guarantee anything.
They’ve had higher day totals (98,000 in Sept), but then they have triple the population in one third the area, and fewer resources.
Ontario just hit a new high for daily cases - a bit under 1000. Pretty upsetting, really, given that we were down in 2-digit territory for the longest while. Things have been unravelling since generous reopening in August and then back-to-school in September. It is mostly localized, but the higher the case count the more it breaks out of those areas and spreads.
So did Germany.
After a rather quiet summer I guess too many didn’t take the (rather simple) protection measures serious enough.
Guessing people are getting burned out and dont give a ■■■■ anymore. It’s like 3rd world countries deal with it better because they know how to survive. Us rich 1st worlds are acting like spoiled children who got their toys taken away.
One thing I’ve seen is that despite risk being higher now, people are behaving less than they did in spring. People have gotten used to the situation, and combined with how politics has discouraged taking it as seriously as we should, it’s turned into a mess.
At work today, I had to leave a note about the washroom rules not being followed. Everytime I tried to clean the main door was not locked and multiple women were using it… With the huge spike in weekend traffic as retail hell approaches, I’m like… how the hell is this safe if people are being that stupid. Never seen it that bad for ideocy.
Note this mall is like 30ish years old, so to get to the washrooms you have to go down a skinny hallway that’s impossible to distance in, and you have multiple women lined up there NOT READING THE DAMN SIGN NOT TO … le sigh…
And again, what’s stopping stage 2 Toronto people from going to small stage 3 cities like mine because stuffs open?
I’ve taken to describing bad behavior in similar terms to drunk driving, at least people tend to have a built up negative reaction to that. Yeah though, I am unsurprised by the rise in cases, even if it horrifies me.
Honestly if they can afford to drive down and shop where you live, you probably don’t need to worry about them as much as you think. There’s a reason why the Toronto numbers are dominated by infection rates in a relatively small number of wards, and it’s very much tied to disposable income (or lack thereof).
Ah, thank you for that grounding info. They just report numbers and never give details. I was pretty angry after my shift with the amount of ignorance too… so my head was just all AaaaaaaaaaAAAAA
