The fatigue is kicking in

I struggle to believe anyone has farmed a boss 2000 times but I was giving you the benefit of the doubt initially. It’s very difficult on an internet forum where you can’t see someone’s body language to know when they are stating facts as they see it or when they are using hyperbole. I tend to err on the side of caution and take most things at face value and respond accordingly

Farming without getting a satisfactory return can be tedious. I accept that. But as stated in my initial response that’s not something the game forces you to do but is a choice you make by focusing entirely on the result instead of how you get it. In other words, you don’t have to farm and if you do then that’s a decision you’ve made. There are plenty of other activities which the game offers beyond simply farming. Venting at the game or the developers because it doesn’t do exactly what you want is misplaced

The ONLY thing that is evidence of is viewership. It says NOTHING about the number of people playing the game. Please note that I am not attempting to dispute any opinions about the state of the player base because everyone has a right to their opinion.

I mean no disrespect but to use the measurement of X and present it as a measurement for Y just strikes me as fundamentally wrong and disingenuous.

[UPDATE]
Before anyone pipes up and say that Twitch viewership is correlated to player numbers, two things …

  1. I’ve seen no statistical models that show that they are indeed correlated. If that model does exist and I missed it please point it out to me.
  2. Correlation is NOT causation!

You… need more of a life. Go outside for a run, hell, go for a walk. Then when you get home, do something other than Borderlands, lol  Other than games. BL is great and all, and I’ve been playing since the release of number 1, but I doubt even since the start of the series that I’ve even racked up quadruple digits in boss killings lol! This is not bashing you lol, this is genuine concern for your health as a fellow BL player, both mental and physical health. This goes to anyone out there doing what this guy’s doing.

While I haven’t done it in BL3 yet (dang these loooong console load times) I have farmed Gettle for Lyudas more than 3,000 times in BL2 in 8,000 some hours.
For me, and I know I’m a bit bizarre here, I find farming soothing, almost meditative. I can farm for hours to relax.
And for the general thread topics, whenever I get a bit fatigued I start a new character and bring 'em up, I enjoy running story over and over.

BTW, the GameStats chart is interesting. 2K reported 5 million copies sold in the first 5 days (https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20190923005321/en/ ) and the GameStats peak is shown as " Total player count 3,400,000" . So either GameStats is off by 32% or so or 1,600,000 people who pre-ordered the game never did much with it. GameStats indicates their player count is based on trophies obtained, and the first BL3 trophy is You Got Skills which you obtain at level 2. So 1.6 million never got to lvl 2?
We’ll get another view into this in a month and a half or so when it arrives on Steam and we can watch the live Steam stats.

Wow…lol. I waiting for someone to play this card. First of all. I was exaggerating when I said 1000. It was more like a play session for a night. Second, I’m married and have a full time job. I have a life, why would you assume that about me. I do agree that taking a break from the game is good advice but you could say it without insulting me.

We, unfortunately, can only go by what is written. And given the nature of this board, 1000s of kills did not sound impossible. Lots of people who appear to only play BL3 around here…

May be we need a special “exaggeration” tag…

While I certainly appreciate your concern for my well-being (I have 8,000 hours in BL2, similar in BL1, and about 600 on BL3 so far) I’m doing fine, thank you.
Besides playing the BL series excessively, I also work (semi-retired so I work about 4 hours a day), write film scores, fly my airplane (a very nice Mooney 231), play with my cats, interact with my wife, and many other things that insure my mental and physical health is tip-top.
You’d be surprised how quickly 45 minutes before work int he morning and 3-5 hours a night add up while still allowing you to have a fulfilling life outside of that.

I think the gamestat link is just for PS4?

Ah, you’re correct, I did not notice that little PS4 badge.
So the number, if you include Xbox, can reasonably assumed to be over 5 mil, perhaps in the 6.5 range.

Yea you make a good point of course. The point of my response was on how the advice was given. It was very passive aggressive. And yes, an exaggeration tag would be interesting.

Maybe a hyperbole tag? There is a lot of that on these forums.

Lol. I unfortunately feed into that as well. Love your profile pic

Well hats off to you for dedication! But it seems to me that if you do it because you like it you don’t fall under the category of a poster getting frustrated by doing 2000 runs and not getting anything. I mean, it’s absolutely fair enough to farm the bejesus out of it if that’s your thing and I do sort of get why you would find that soothing (I don’t really enjoy “farming,” as such, but I have been known to run The Anvil repeatedly just for kicks, which isn’t that dissimilar tbh!).

Don’t mean to diss those that do farm repeatedly and apologies if that’s the way it came across but I was responding more to the banging-head-against-brick-wall type behaviour that farming for no reward seemed to suggest

I fall into the category that complains about the farm but loves the game enough to keep chasing loot. Venting to me is part of the process
But you make some good points.

I think just a few more tweaks to the drop rates will put the game exactly where it needs to be. So close!

If you read an insult from my post, that’s your issue. I literally said I wasn’t within said post. And next time don’t exaggerate with 1000 kills, just say a real number, like 20 or something. Second, I “assumed” because you seem to really care about your ventures in a video game more than say… a person with a busy life, especially backed up by the whole 4-digit stated number. If you just speak plainly, then you won’t have responses you don’t like. ~Peace out.

All cool, and correct.
I let the game come to me, what it gives me is what I get. Never been a particular parts or anointment seeker. Probably why I’m “only” OP6 in BL2 and “only” comfortable in M2 or 3 in BL3.

Weirdly, I’m quite happy farming bosses if there’s more to it than just trying to get this one item with this specific set of parts. Kill Lee and Boll several hundred times for science? Sure, I’ll do that - maybe not all in one go though. But farm for the perfect shock Flying Sand Hawk? Nope. Not happening.

I’m also really glad I got over my OCD need to 100% achievements in everything.

Yes my lord, forgive me kneels I shouldn’t read to much into your words. This my own issue.

There appears to be a fairly clear distinction between targeted farming - where the player is aiming for very specific equipment - and general farming for kicks. I’ll do the latter from time to time but the main complaints are from those who do the former with an absolute goal in mind.

The only way I can avoid my completion OCD is to try not to think about it…
