The Flak over Fl4k and what it cost

i am impolite when i feel ppl are actually harming our freedoms. by everyone agreeing that we should censor certain subjects, they just create an environment where politicians feel that they can pass laws to arrest ppl for misgendering ppl on twitter or telling offensive jokes at a comedy club. this leads to only being able to criticize certain groups or ideas based on politics instead of validity.

You just keep doing you man. My dad has worked from home my entire life, and I’m very much still alive.

Dividing labor makes sense so long as it is based on the aptitude of the people doing it. Regardless of gender or sex, if someone can do a job well they should do it. And if it takes 2 people to make a baby, both people should be able to take care of it. (Honest question, I always use it when referring to babies. In light of recent discussion, is that something we should talk about? It’s kind of weird now that I think about it :rofl:)

gender is also being used to equal sex now though. transgender women try to claim the right to compete in sports as women or go to womens prisons. i could understand an argument against gender segregation but that is not the argument they are making

If some one were actually infringing on a freedom, I would be right there with you. Again. I am a big First Amendment guy. I just think this is GBX exercising theirs.

That seems to be the product of two distinct camps in constant quarrel with one another, seeking to one up the other. The ultimate tool for any politician is the ability to appeal to a select portion of the population by a single issue. Every politician on earth would kowtow if the general consensus was;
I disagree with all of these people, but I like most of them. I don’t agree with anything you’ve said so far, but I don’t think for one moment that you’re not a nice guy.

You were more than willing to talk with me, and I appreciate that.

When the day comes that they try to imprison people for words alone, I will be there standing next to you. But it isn’t this day, and it isn’t these people. These are nice folks.

I appreciate that, Giu. It’s since resolved itself in such a way that it is no longer an issue, but the first few months after my wife went back to work were a little rough. Being surrounded by women who fought the feminism fight and held those opinions made for some interesting conversations though.

@boombumr This is just part of the way society evolves. Someone needs to be uncomfortable to show everyone there’s no need. My son is what’s important, and to heck with anyone that thinks I don’t act accordingly. It’s all love.

This is a semantic argument, and historically the semantic argument of one era has the potential to become moot in the next. As for how people make these arguments, I suspect that as we (as a society) gain more understanding of our fellow humans and compassion regarding how they think and feel, these arguments will grow and change. Discourse is a living breathing thing, and healthy debate and discussion is part of that process.

Welp, I had noped out a while back, but, it appears there are some questions of real validity with regards to what being non-binary means. And. I guess I’m out here now, so I guess I’ll try to describe it and how it’s worked for me.

I’d like to start by saying that it’s pretty clear that as feminists, we’ve wanted to break the gender barriers. We want men to be loving, crying, emotionally available fathers, and women to be able to work if that’s what they want to do. Two very basic examples of trying to grey the binary.

But while we see gender as a social construct, we also admit that it, and the rules that came with it, still inform a large swathe of society and our norms. Women still get heavier weighting in custody battles, and men still get paid more in some spaces simply because (and this comes from a RECENT news article I read where someone actually said this) “they’re the bread winner” and they deserve more BECAUSE OF THAT ASSUMED STANCE. That’s an extreme example. But the extreme examples make it easiest to digest, I guess.

Anyways, within these paradigms, children are socialized, by parents, teachers, media, to conform to certain traits and thought structures and rules. Men to be wildly chasing after sex, and women to be chaste virgins for eternity. Men to be unruly and wild BOYS. And women to be proper and lady like.

If you don’t like these sweeping assumptions, awesome. You’re doing well. But. There are large strokes of people who fall right into these categories.

Now, a lot of trans people discuss the feelings of being “socialized with the wrong group”. Trans women who always felt incredibly vulnerable and out of place in mens locker rooms. Trans men who often felt like one of the guys…until they weren’t allowed to…

Non-binary is a subset of the trans experience wherein one doesn’t feel properly fully aligned with one or the other. In my experience, that could be because I have always had a more feminine aligned brain, and a more masculine aligned body. For some people, the solution to this is simple. Fix your body. That’s when you’re binary trans.

A non-binary trans person often struggles with that. It could be something else. Or it could be they’ve grown accustomed to this meat prison and still call it home. A mental Stockholm syndrome. So they decorate it to make it feel like what they want…and they admit that doesn’t really fall into either of the binary categories that are usually available.

I mean, as always, it’s far more nuanced than that. But I figure this is a good place for anyone actually interested to start.

My name is Sam.
Samantha, if you’re nasty. :stuck_out_tongue: have a nice evening.

of course gbx is infringing on freedom. gbx does have the right to infringe on freedom of speech within its own forums though. the first amendment only deals with governments punishing ppl for speech.

Hey, Samantha. Took courage to throw that out there. I recognize it.

If this was in the public, ie on the street or in the free press, I would completely agree with you. But this is, to use a metaphor, their house and they get to write the rules here. These rules don’t apply elsewhere, the same as my dad grew up in a kosher house but raised my brother and me in a house without those rules. My grandmother did not approve, but it was not her place to say something.

I have a fine selection of Mevushal wines for your perusing… wait, sorry, not the place to make a sales pitch.

Seriously. Buy my ■■■■.

That is it for me for tonight guys. I’ll be keeping an eye, but I am leaving the shop soon so I need to get going. I hope we found some commonality and I hope everyone felt free to express their beliefs.

Be kind to each other.

Done, I will tell you the line to take. Early September sound good? I should be pretty free.

You think you know alcoholism?

I was born in it. Molded it by. I didn’t know water until I was a man, and by then it was sobering.

Phenomenal. I’ll bring you a bottle of the last beer I brewed. A black and tan barley wine that has been aging for about 6 years. Probably not as good as what you have in stock, but I’m proud of the result.

FL4K returns from the hunt holding a massive dragon-like skull, only to find the village in flames. They dart around the ruins and burnt bodies looking for survivors. Eventually, they find one, coughing and sputtering on the ground.

FL4K:
Villager, who has done this to you? Was it bandits? Yet another resurrection of Handsome Jack? A gigantic three headed hydra thing? Oh… PLEASE tell us it was a gigantic three headed hydra thing…

VILLAGER: (Smiling and coughing blood)
FL4K… you’re back… you’re… finally back…

FL4K:
On second thought… do not attempt to speak.

VILLAGER: (Smiling and coughing blood)
FL4K… they… they… they tried to misgender you with the improper pronoun. But… but we showed 'em. WE… showed 'em.

The villager dies in FL4K’s arms. They gather and stare at the body. The skag portion starts chewing on the villager’s foot. FL4K turns and looks at a crumbling mural with graffiti written in blood: “THEY, NOT HE!”

FL4K:
Right…

The spiderant portion begins to take an interest in the villager’s other leg.

FL4K:
That’s… dammit, there isn’t even anyone left to pay us now is there?
