The Gift Shop Is The Gift That Keeps On Giving

I have seen Pearls appear here but they are extremely rare (as they should be, anyway). It’s a very nice place to farm for new gear for sure and one I go back to instead of driving for over fifteen minutes to the Armoury!

OK…please post a photo next time you see one. I would love for you to be right…but I don’t think you are.

I will when I see some. Please don’t doubt me. Thanks.

I’m very much of two minds about the Gift Shop.
I never made it this far a few years ago when I tried BL1, so this is my first time experiencing it.

It’s an embarrassment of riches.

On the one hand, this is great, makes it trivially easy to gear appropriately for the rest of PT2.5. A few trips to the Gift Shop ever few levels and you have what you want (Volcano’s, Hellfire’s and Stingers for me (yes I do often prefer a Stinger over an Anarchy, I like the accuracy)). No gear worries, just battle worries.
On the other hand, it removes a lot of typical game activity. Once the Gift shop is open, I don’t stop and look at weapons vendors anymore, don’t look at all the red chests, often ignore enemy drops. I have the gear I want anytime I want, so instead of a shooter looter it’s now just a shooter.
That’s not intrinsically bad, it just changes the dynamic of the game. And, in some ways, makes it easy for some value of easy. Since I’m not concerned about gear I’m not concerned about many fights, except, quite frankly, Craw. Everything else just dies to my constantly on-level legendary gear.
And while it really satisfies my Oh look, shiny need, I don’t think I’d like this same level of largess in, say BL3.

I do think a simple change (simple to do, major in consequences) would address this. Continue to make the Gift Shop farmable, but for each time you go you must battle MINAC again. Would make one feel like they earned the gear.
And of course on the flip side I’m going to keep going there to get incrementally better gear, can’t help myself there.

Regarding pearlescent weapons outside the General Knoxx DLC the common experience is that you will not find any.
There is already a thread concerning this question:

And as the OP posted:

So the usual place for pearlescents would be the Knoxx DLC, but as @MeltintheSun posted above, please post a picture if and when you find one in the Gift Shop. That would convince me and would lead to me visiting the Shop more often…

Great post(s)!

Thank you.

I’m with you on the MINAC-fighting thing. I wish they would do something to encourage end-game play besides just mindless Craw and Armory (and now, Gift Shop) farming.

In my opinion there are three big things you’d have to do, in order to really change end-game play:

  • patch the armory glitch. In return, maybe allow the quest to be endlessly repeated with some kind of short mop-up quest, but you always are timed in the armory.
  • make pearls available outside DLC3.
  • put the Gift Shop back how it was (crappy).

Other ideas:

  • make Lance chests appear in some places in PT2.5. Like, Sledge’s Safehouse, and you have to kill the Roid psycho to get them. Or, up where Baron Flynt or Krom hang out. Something to bring you back to these one-time-only maps.
  • major reward for the 20-round underdome challenges…maybe even a guaranteed pearl??? And make the quests repeatable, of course
  • put ANY kind of reward after beating Undead Ned.
  • ALL bosses respawn. Why fix King Wee Wee, but not Kyros and Typhon or the Kobb brothers? Or, Lance Assassins ?
  • add all quest loot to some enemy loot pool! Stuff like Athena’s Wisdom, Chiquito Amigo, Rider…others?
  • make Circle of Death, Slaughter, and Duty repeatable, with real rewards for the first two.

I could go on. But I won’t. But I could. I tentatively hope for a Community Patch to fix some of this stuff.

Something I mentioned in another thread was, that I wished that the new Gearbox legendaries were actually 2nd-gen pearls (a la BL2) that were available everywhere (not restricted to Knoxx) and that they weren’t so readily acquired (ie Crawmerax spilling them out like he tumped over a jar of peanuts). Marketing could’ve put out “Heads up Vault Hunters! Word is there are six new super-rare Pearlescent weapons to be found out there on Pandora! Happy hunting!” Would’ve generated some OMG NEW PEARL hype, but oh well.

Yeah that would have been cool…and make them not fixed parts too!

Another idea - during the 20-round Underdome challenges, the Awesome Level of the loot dropped from the tower could get higher every round! IIRC it is fixed at 10 right now. What if it increased by 4 each round? The last 3 or 4 rounds would be statistically better loot than Craw. What about 5 per round? AL of ~100 by the end…what would that even do to parts? I dunno, but it would really make things tense!

A rushed & poorly thought out / implemented idea by Gearbox?

That NEVER happens!

How was King Wee Wee fixed?

He respawns now.

So he can be farmed for the Super Booster?

Yup! Drops it every time, sometimes the Spy as well.

Something else to add to my “must farm” list

What would be the “ideal” Super Booster?

This is the best one I’ve gotten so far:

Somewhere I saw a pic of a max stat one, can’t find it now. :frowning: But it was a bit better than this one I have. And I think he can drop a level 69 one, but I haven’t seen one yet.

Noted!

Negative. Can’t drop 69 loot.

Only gear out of the vending machine can be 69 from the item of the day slot. No pearls spawn in the vending machine.
