The Hunt 2018 Official Ruleset
Note - Rules may be adjusted in the upcoming weeks before the event. Updates will be announced and noted via an update log. Anything marked below with the tag [UNDER REVIEW] indicates a possible change in the rule from last year’s event.

This competition is for vanilla Borderlands 2. The usage of the Unofficial Community Patch, or any mod that changes the vanilla drop rates is NOT allowed. (The usage of “quality of life” mods for gameplay is not allowed.)

  • You must CREATE A NEW CHARACTER and utilize ONLY THAT CHARACTER for the duration of the competition
    - To start everyone on even footing and to allow people who have not played the game before to be on par with everyone, we are enforcing that a new character must be created on February 19th for this scavenger hunt. You will only be allowed to use this character for the duration of the event.

  • You must COMPLETE Talon of God on Normal Vault Hunter Mode
    - We are requiring that everyone complete the first playthrough up to NVHM Talon of God before the end of the competition.

  • ONLY ONE (1) ITEM Per Slot, No Duplicate Items for Points
    - Each item is redeemable only once, and you cannot farm the same item for multiple iterations of points. Once you have it, you have it.

  • [NEW] Once you BEGIN a NEW PLAYTHROUGH, you may ONLY return to the most recent previous Playthrough difficulty
    - Once you start TVHM, you may return to normal mode, however once you start UVHM, you are restricted to TVHM and higher. When you start OP1 (regardless of completion of the Peak), you are restricted to UVHM and UP.

- For Easy Reference:
Once you START TVHM, you can go back to Normal Mode if needed.
Once you START UVHM, you can go back to TVHM if needed, you are LOCKED OUT OF NORMAL MODE.
Once you START PLAYING ON OP1+, you can go back to UVHM (72) if needed, you are LOCKED OUT OF TVHM.

  • [RESTORED] You may buy the RAID BOSS SERAPHS from TVHM Seraph Vendors
    - Seraph Crystals only drop in UVHM, and you are restricted to TVHM after entering UVHM as per the above rule. The raid boss seraphs are purchasable in the TVHM Seraph Shops. To redeem these using this method, you MUST spend your Seraph Crystals for each item in order to count them. If you’re in a party and you’ve farmed Seraph Crystals together, then one person can spend for the whole group as long as all members have been present for the whole time during Seraph Crystal collection.

  • [NEW] Lobby Swapping Ban
    - Due to last year’s competition and the practice of OP8 “Lobby Swapping” which could potentially trivialize Tubby farming, the practice of lobby swapping (lining up several people, for example viewers from a stream, to farm Tubbies for you, and message you in chat so you are constantly switching between lobbies that have spawned a rare enemy) is prohibited.

  • [REWORKED] Co-Op Regulations are as follows:
    - Co-Op play is encouraged, all signed up with a column must be streaming. If a drop is found during a playthrough with multiple column-assigned participants, only ONE (1) highlight is needed; please make sure to put the names of your co-op partners in the highlight description/clip title. You may play with partners that are not participating on the spreadsheet via co-op. However it must be determined that your co-op partner must have started a new character ON FEBRAURY 19th.
    - Utilizing co-op with others playing as perfectly geared characters using gibbed is explicitly NOT ALLOWED.
    - You may farm with friends up to the max party size (The Host + 3 Players). Each player must be the same level or two levels below/above (+/- 2) the host of the game.
    - For OP levels all users are restricted to the same OP Level gear as the host, or below. If joining a lobby, you must have reached the same OP Level as the host (reminder that ALL players will need to start a new character on 2/19, including those hopping in games to help but not participating on the spreadsheet).

  • No Golden Key Items
    - No items from the Golden Chest are allowed for use in the playthrough.

  • PC READ ONLY FARMING IS ALLOWED ONLY FOR QUEST REWARDS WITH GUN ROLLS / CONSOLE USERS CAN ALT+F4 FARM FOR QUEST REWARDS WITH GUN ROLLS (NO MOONSHOT WARRIOR)
    - You may read only farm to obtain certain items while leveling up a character, only for those items with gun rolls. You may not Alt F4 / Dashboard farm things like the Moonshot, Treasure Room Questline, etc.

  • World Drops ARE ALLOWED
    - This means that if you find an item on this list by killing a random enemy, opening a chest, from a Legendary Loot Midget, etc., you ARE allowed to count this item towards your progress.

  • Items from Slot Machines ARE ALLOWED
    - If you find any item on the list from the slot machines in Sanctuary, the Torgue DLC, or the Tiny Tina DLC, you ARE allowed to count this towards your progress. You do not need to purchase the item, rather you can just screenshot it. The only exception is the Torgue Machine Legendaries. See below.

  • Legendary Items from the Torgue DLC Vending Machines ARE ALLOWED
    - You may farm Torgue Tokens in order to purchase a Torgue Legendary and count it towards your progress. For each legendary you redeem farmed via the Torgue Vending Machine, you MUST purchase the item to spend the Torgue Tokens.
(Please note that the Pocket Rocket is excluded from this competition).

  • Legendary/Pearlescent Items from vendors in the “Item of the Day” ARE ALLOWED
    - If you are lucky enough to come across a legendary or pearlescent in a vending machine’s “Item of the Day,” you may count it towards your progress. You DO NOT need to purchase the item, rather you can highlight the item in the machine as proof.

  • No Badass Rank
    - Please disable badass rank to keep everyone on the same footing during the competition.

  • No Experience Point Exploits
    - Including Test Dummy EXP Farming

  • [NEW] No Mods Allowed
    - The competition will take place in vanilla Borderlands 2. The usage of the Unofficial Community Patch, any patch that changes the drop rates, QoL mods, or any other mod, is prohibited.

  • Classic Hunt Rules Apply as far as Exploits/Glitches
    - This includes bans on Damage Transfer via Pimpernel/Ahab or Flakker/Ahab, Morningstar Critical Hit Stacking, Respec Machine Rising Sh0t Stacking, Buck Up/Gaige Glitches, Amp Shield Damage Stacking, Axton Co-Op Speed Glitch, no Out of Bounds (wall clipping), and other obvious gltiches/exploits not mentioned here.

Rule Changelog v1.7:

  • [NEW] Master Gee/Pyro Pete gate/elevator crushing is not allowed
Utilizing singularity grenades and crushing Master Gee with the entrance gate is not allowed in this iteration of the event. Similarly, crushing Pyro Pete with the elevator will not be allowed.

  • [NEW] Once you BEGIN a NEW PLAYTHROUGH, you may ONLY return to the most recent previous Playthrough difficulty
Once you start TVHM, you may return to normal mode, however once you start UVHM, you are restricted to TVHM and higher. When you start OP1 (regardless of completion of the Peak), you are restricted to UVHM. This is outlined in the quick reference above under this section.

  • [NEW] Lobby Swapping Ban
Due to last year’s competition and the practice of OP8 “Lobby Swapping” which could potentially trivialize Tubby farming, the practice of lobby swapping (lining up several people, for example viewers from a stream, to farm Tubbies for you, and message you in chat so you are constantly switching between lobbies that have spawned a rare enemy) is prohibited. More on this rule to come, will be fleshed out.

  • [REWORKED] Co-Op Regulations are as follows: [UNDER REVIEW]

  • [ALLOWED] Utilization of Double Shotting

  • [RESTORED] You may buy the RAID BOSS SERAPHS from TVHM Seraph Vendors
Seraph Crystals only drop in UVHM, and you are restricted to TVHM after entering UVHM as per the above rule. The raid boss seraphs are purchasable in the TVHM Seraph Shops. I can’t wait to see the community come together for this event. I’m so ready for this!

Finally you guys posted the thing!
Cant wait. however, i have a question regarding the rules, maybe those were answered in the old thread, but i couldnt find it if it did.

For example, cant you just get to level 72 op3-4 and then farm all of those raidboss legendarys on tvhm at level 50?

Shouldnt you atleast be level 72 op0 for raidboss only drops? or UVHM, not even 72. I understand that you want to not exclude people without the upgrade pack 2, but by this point pretty much everyone already has all dlc’s outside of the headhunter packs or the handsome collection and some legendarys require 61+ anyway (extra pearls)

and

"You may play with partners that are not participating on the spreadsheet via co-op."
So i could just invite a friend with full op8 gear who does everything for me? not that i’d be doing that but it whould kinda take away from the fun if anyone does it. and you cant really call it out since it seems to be perfectly fine within the rules.

just looks like an unneeded source for drama imo.

anyway, even if the rules stay like that, its gonna be an exciting event, see you guys in the borderlands! =)

Hey!

Regarding the: Play w/ Partners not participating on the spreadsheet.
This was a hotly contested rule last iteration, and is under review currently. If anything changes, it will be posted in the log. Also regarding the raid-boss rules, I think those are staying the way it is for general purposes. For some people this is their first venture into the game and they do not have all the content. In the end last year, people needed to get to OP8 regardless because the rates for UVHM2 Pearlescents were seemingly non-existent until OP8. But I’ll review accordingly and if anything changes it will be posted immediately.

Hey, thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

fair enough and if people actually went out of their way to unlock op8 just for pearls then thats more then good enough. After all its an event that should entertain people and i just thought that dozens of people stomping tvhm content with 72’s is a boring thing for the players and viewers alike.

If i can make a suggestion for co-op gameplay:

I see 2 problems with the co-op rule in the context of the hunt.

first one being boosting of players, second one being the lobby swapping thing.

A solution whould be to only allow the one who is actually participating to play as host, that prevents lobby swapping since, if you join you whould violate that rule. (on top of that its impossible to know if the coop partner has mods installed, essentially bypassing the mod rule)
secondly, people that join can only be x levels (dont know what whould feel appropiate, i think 5-10 levels max?) above the host/participant.
In OP levels coop partners are prohibited to only use gear that matches the OP level of the lobby. (maybe allow lobbylevel+1)

edit: i think what’s so great about this event is that players of all skill levels can come together and enjoy it, however it’d be bad if it became a neccessity for the more dedicated crowd to have a speedrun salvador with op8 gear boost you to skip a ton of playtime on day 1-3 since playing -together- instead of letting someone else do your work is the spirit of this rule as i interpret it.

So question, if 2 streamers are co op playing (and participating) it says you only need 1 clip/highlight with everyone’s names in description, my question is. Do both streamers get the point(s) or just the 1 who picked it up? And if you are playing with someone not streaming and not part of the hunt do their pickups count towards your point if you clip/highlight.
I read the rules but just wanted to be 100% clear so I can prepare.
Thanks

I agree with the sentiments that you’ve brought up here and more changes are being reviewed. I’ve preliminarily added a few restrictions regarding your suggestions to the ruleset above.

I dont have recording software or any way to stream, but can the community who plays bl2 get the drops rom different bosses, like lets say the gunerang drops from midgemong or something, does everyone get to do that even without signing up? Like… Sorry, i’ts quite a coincidence but it just so happens i dont play bl2 every time the hunt happes, but when its over i do. If you could reply it’d be amazing.

Good luck for the participants
My skills sucks so a hypothetical stream from me would be unviewable

you’re refering to the first iteration of the hunt where hotfixes actually changed items to be better / have a different drop location.

the last 2 or 3 or so iterations however were community organised and arent supported by hotfixes from gearboxes side. They only sponsored prices for the top 3 players last time around =) you might notice that the drop locations are actually discribed in the google spreadsheet

im a garbage player too and ill still participate. its less about your skill in aiming and gameknowledge and more about having fun! As long as you enjoy what the event does you should still join in =)

Do you have to sign up for the hunt to get the weapons or Can I go on my gunzerker op8 and farm them ?

Say we’re level 61 72 whatever are we allowed to go back to norm mode and farm a badaboom for rocket jumping?

yes. thats what i was talking about earlyer, you can do everything you’d normally do gameplay wise as long as its not an exploit listed in the first post (includes out of bounce (oob)).

you may even go back to farm a normal badaboom and get it checked on the list after you’re 72. all that counts is actually getting any version of the item to drop =)

EDIT: now that the rules have changed, you may only go back 1 difficulty @Teras993 , read the OP for the update!

Only thing I’d like to see as far as co-op is:

Make it so all players must be present on the main menu before the host loads up the game. Big problem last year was that people would farm Tubbies across multiple game lobbies, and when one person found one, he would pause the game to allow other people to join. Forcing everyone to be in the same lobby before the game starts would prevent this.

Also, please clarify whether the Sal and Zer0 Hopilite speed glitch is allowed or not.

@Ganza, just a few thoughts of mine on this, do what you will with them.

Because the event isn’t just restricted to PC mods full stop shouldn’t be allowed in my opinion. Partially because you’ll have some console players might complain about being unable to use them, partially because it’d be a nice touch to see everyone playing the same version (as in Vanilla).

And I think that if you’re disabling BAR for everyone mods should be disabled too.

You don’t get to be one of, if not The, most well known Krieg mains on the forums by being bad at it.

I missed out last year, I might start streaming in order to participate this year though. Looks like a lot of fun

Can you use the Seraph vendors to acquire items, and if so, do you have to purchase or just screenshot??

Hey all. I’ve added some changes based on Community Feedback. 1.7 is the most recent change log. More feedback and suggestions are always welcome, and all comments are taken into consideration.
