Don’t forget !!! When something useful finally does drop…
Fighting on Mayhem 10 rewards you with Mayhem 1 items!!!
So even fighting through all the RNG, multiply it with items being under leveled !!
Oh so much fun…

ahhahahaahahah
its funny because its true xD
Actually i just expected this to happen for borderlands 3 cause the talk about a crafting system in borderlands reaches back to the days of borderlands 2.
I see that being a great addition to the game.
You collect weapon parts anoints and what not to craft that one perfect / good roll that fits to your Vault Hunter.
Since it seems unlikely that this will happen there is one thing the devs could do in order to make farming less of a chore.
That one thing would be letting only drop gear mods anoints and so on only for the VH you currently playing as.
This first would take out a lot of the rng and second you would be granted at least items your VH can work with.
I can imagine this at least being added to the game at an later addition cause therefore they only need to adjust code.
I’ve noticed this in other games too. The more choices you have, the fewer viable choices you have.
In effect, giving me more means actually giving me less.
Where is our Colin Chapman, to scold the industry and preach that less is more?
I agree. If they’re going to put so much randomization into weapons, then we need the ability to break them down into parts and be able to replace parts on weapons.
Not exactly sure if this pertains to this thread but as far as anointments go the 2 most useless IMO are the ‘while airborne’ and ‘while sliding’ ones. As for the airborne, either remove it entirely or have it applied to hover vehicles- after all, no one is jumping from airplanes nor is there a mechanic that allows characters to be in the air for 10+ seconds (which would be the only way to make such anoinments worthwhile). If it were applied to hovering vehicles at least it might make dealing with enemy vehicles easier on any of the higher Mayhem levels.
As for the ‘while sliding’ anointment have the anointment kick in AFTER you’ve finished your slide (something I rarely do myself). That way, not only do you get the effects of whatever the relic causes the slide to do but you can actually use the anointment to a much greater effect.
Late response.
Really no. I found BL2 to have struck the balance perfectly in this regard. The right amount of gear, challenging to get but not riddled with unicorns (Cobra, Twister and 2nd gen pearls aside), and an extraordinary amount of varied and engaging end-game content.
I managed 3600 hours and 24 toons before I burned out and I know of many players who exceeded that by a not insignificant margin.
I’m saying complexity and an over abundance of gear does not necessarily make for long term engagement. It can have an opposite effect. “Can” because the jury’s still out regarding this game since I’ve only got less than a couple hundred hours in and the game is still evolving/growing.
But the pattern is there.
As an aside : the variability of Mayhem has effectively erased any chances of there being competition. The BL2 Time Trials spurred on a HUGE number of incredible builds and exploits. It was incredibly vibrant for a surprisingly long time. This definitely contributed to the amazing longevity of 2.
The biggest complaint of mine is that the best guns are locked behind boss drops only, meaning you need to farm a trivial boss (that’s arguably magnitudes easier and more tedious than world badasses and cartel members especially) hundreds of times until you see the legendary you want with the anointment you want.
I actually think having all legendaries (except dlc and takedown ones) in world pool would make farm significantly more fun. Let dedicated drops exist, just give us a reason to farm cartel and loot the universe zones. We miss out on TWO events at the expense of dedicated drop farming.
Op made a great and sensible thread describing an inanely prevalent problem
All replays are nonsense about sth else.Clasaic gbx forum.
I think hunting for specific gun parts is mostly a diehard activity that rarely makes a huge difference, but element+anointment is indeed massively detrimental to RNG.
Tvhm had extra boss mechanics health hp variance in what they did. New mobs spawned items. Etc
Bl2 had the most variance and viability on the game period. So many variation of torgue shorguns ppl loved. Blues and quest items sought out the same.ones after each level cap. Still sought out other guns to have fun with.
Lady finger. That robots weird pistol that did insane bounce damage. Wth is sandhawk a friggin sniper.
Purple snipers were still boss. Remember the only explosive sniper in both games?
Legendarys were unique special guns not a requirement.
Id kill for a x2 even blue assault rifle with a decent clip never found one as axton.
I did like the madhous even if it was bad.
I replayed the game.a few times just for the pimpernickle or whatever ot was called. Pirates dlc robot quest sniper.
The parts game was fun and crazy and really added variety. Named/bosses had limited pools. Ud def get ur loot and you can use it after a few kills. Might not be the version u wanted completely but it was usuable.
Games based on anoints now.Now anything with a garbage anoint is junk. Most of the time it has a big label that says. Basically anointed for another character sorry not ur gun.
Items with parts like the claievoyance become almoat impossible because parta rng + 50 anoints rng. Then there’s koason whil itll drop…after maybe 10 kills so much parta rnf u may never find ur desired element with anoint that ur looking for. Forget parts…
Now u pray to see the gun itself with an anoint u can use.
This games scaling is also just dumb… Ppl doing hundreds of millions inaa second.
I like sliding and climbing but whys the other mechanics gone? HELLO DOTS. Elements never felt useless. Bl3 is rock paper sissors. I coukd corrode almost anyone it didnt feel useless on flesh because it had dots. Electric on flesh didnt feel useless either… Nothing felt useless.
Guna didnt all have the same 3 tiers of elemental damage. Like we know the biggest tier is now at 14k or around. But dots arent the same.
Remember bl2 hellfire? This game has all the potential to be great but theyre throwing everything i loved about borderlands in the trash.
I like borderlands because it is an rpg. A shooter. And there was tons of things to killl and different eays to kill and test builds. Game feels. Empty and boring. Tree variations are non existant. Trap skills crap skills. Redundancy.
I dunno who said bl3 is bigger than bl2. There are literally whole maps of nothing in bl3. Empty spaces with nothing… U mean driving space is considered bigger and makes it have more area than bl2? Lmao… No…
Pandora itself has so.much variety did we see any of it in 3? Nope.
Went to a whole new planet. 3 dinosaurs total. Some monkeys.
Ratches everywhere. Didnt even see a thresher on pandora any of the many many monsters it had
When i think about it… Bl3 feels really bad. I was just looking foward to more but it feels like less.
The only thing it exceeded or surpassed bl2 is in bugs/exploits/ppl having legit complaints and well sliding and climbing is cool.
Oh sure i notixd fancy lighting on pc on some guns when i move around. Whoopee!.. This is borderlands i was never here for hyper realism. I do appreciate dx12 but jeezues… Does it take forever to start up sometimes randomly.
Mayhem 2.0 issues and things stated in releases being completely in errror aside… They should be happy we’re mostly just complaining about mayhem and loot… Cuz the game has way more issues.
And less content. I was my seraphs shops back. Invincibles.andnslaughters for each dlc.
I don’t like beta testing a game. I shoulda bought it when all the dlc was released
Sigh*
I’ve decided to post a reply. There have been alot of replies but alot are focused on content and feeling of longevity of the game instead of the topic of loot/gear RNG issue. So i decided to do some more stats on this stuff using actually numbers about the gear. Now i’m taking a Vladof AR for available weapon parts to do the stats. So here is some actual math on this to show you how dire this really is right now.
Note on how i’m doing the equation. This will be the probability of getting teh drop you want when a legendary drops. I’m not including drop rates as there isn’t exactly numbers on this available and they are being changed too often to care. so here is where we are at.
A)% Chance the drop is the legendary you want: 1/298
(There are 298 legendaries in the game as per the a spread sheet i found that seemed pretty well kept and legit. Note this is also assuming that your legendary is always available in a world drop scenario… if you are a dedicated drop this gets worse not better)
B) % Chance of gear stats : 1/116, 640
(Yes this is massive, and for those of you who said you don’t care about weapon parts. Just keep this in mind, weapon parts can change base damage of a gun from -10 to +40% thats a 50% difference in damage, nevermind this includes things like magazine size, element and fire rate as well)
Body: 1/6
Barrel: 1/5
Grip: 1/6
Foregrip: 1/3
Sight: 1/3
Rail: 1/3
Element: 1/6
C) % chance of annointment: 1/1 if you play on Mayhem 10. (Chances get worse at lower levels which makes no sense. you should have a better chance at lower levels and make the highest end gear harder to get)
D) % chance of specific annoint: 1/58
This is based on weapons only since the weapon parts are for guns only and i said this example was based on a weapon
A * B * C * D = Chance of getting the weapon you want
1/298 * 1/116640 * 1/1 * 1/58 = 1/2,016,005,760
That is 0.0000000496% chance of getting the weapon you want… makes you wish there was a 5% chance for each stat doesn’t it.
While your equation isn’t exactly rosy, dire is a bit extreme.
I don’t like M10. I think it’s ■■■■■■■■. But I like having the option of fine tuning the level a la OP in 2 and being able to play high level with powerful gear and low level with trash gear.
The DLC can’t even get me back into playing this game. So sad.
M4 kept me playing even though I was steamrolling
M2.0 killed all the fun stuff in this game…
So I also don’t think the DLC will pull me back in next week… I don’t think we’re allone in this and start to wonder how many players this game allready lost because of this ■■■■■■■■
I was the same…M4 was a nice fun spot for me and wAs quite enjoying the end game and gearing up my characters or even trying new builds. Then they tried to do M2.0, cartel Nd loot the universe events at the same time and broke the entire game from balance, to performance, to loot drops, to enjoyment of the game. Worst part is they are sticking with the ■■■■■■■■ modifiers that are just screen pollution and annoying. Makes no sense considering m1-3 in the old way, people complained about the RNG modifiers. They bring out M4 and people enjoyed it… So they overall and bring it weird RNG modifiers again…
As for players lost… If the percentages of the poll I put up are reflective (Found here) then ~80% of players are playing minimal to none. 44% stopped playing all together. Sad state of affairs
Really getting the feeling everybody has the same idea on the game except for GBX or whoever is making these stupid decisions

I hope GBX will just admit defeat and just use the ideas that are being posted on the forum (they allready used a ton of QoL suggestions like making slam doable with normal jump for example)
atm, I would be playing old M4 if I could until they fixed the game but noooooo… Now I’m stuck with 100 euro of game and it’s not even fun to play… If this was anything else we would lawyer up and demand our money back
This is precisely why the anointments need to be decoupled from gear and added to trinkets. Every new anointment drastically affects drop chances for any particular anointment you might be looking for which is the same as drastically affecting the chances for the weapon itself. As we go into the future the increasing number of anointments makes it exponentially harder to get any particular anointment. Lots of anointment choices are good but at a certain point the rarity of items and the combination of anointments just makes farming gear completely insane.
I don’t see why the anointments can’t just come as a separate loot item (outside gear loot pools) and in the form of a white “generic” trinket. Once you find the generic version of an anointment it gets added to your echo devices into some “discovered” category. Once it’s in this discovered category you can pay cash or eridium or whatever to “learn” the anointment. Once it’s in the learned category it becomes an option in the regular trinket menu and can be added to any trinket cosmetic you want. Then any item in that slot gets that anointment.
In this way you can find all the trinkets but don’t have to learn them until you want to pay for the ability to include them in your collection of learned anointments. Once something is learned it’s yours and can be used at will. They can adjust the rarity of anointment trinkets and legendary items based on this but it will also allow them to add a lot more anointments without a worry that actual item rarity is getting all messed up in the process.
Then we could go back to feeling good when we see a legendary item drop because we know at the very least it won’t be some worthless trash with a useless anointment.
Now @Sidartha, THAT is an intriguing idea! Well F’N played! I’d very much like to see the dynamic of “annointed weapon trinkets” play-out over time in the community.

the biggest problem i think is that gearbox is having conflicting ideas of what this game is meant to be.
on one hand they say that borderlands is about the random chaos, that you’re meant to just pick up whatever you find and go nuts.
on the other hand, they create an endgame that is the polar opposite of this gameplay model. the endgame progression and balance is heavy leaning towards min maxing your skill tree, class mod/relic, weapon and annoint. this alone limits what you can do, but the near non existent balance takes it 3 steppes further.
even though we only have class mod, relic and guardian ranks to really influence the stat priorities, that is enough to be a deal breaker of what’s decent and what’s absolutely terrible.
most games that have an endgame like this offer ways to aquire gear along side the kill, loot, return loop.
if their idea of longevity means that you gotta farm until 2026 to get what you wanted then… yeah, idk what to say. if endgame is what you look for then i’ve gotta say that this game has no future in this regard and it’s almost as if they’re are stalling time with false promises until they sold you all the DLC.
