I feel I have been remiss in my duty as a glutton by not posting here, so I will share a meal that was epic in its scope. I did not cook it myself, but it is worthy of sharing. We went to a local German restaurant for my aunt’s birthday (Zum Stammtisch for those in NYC or willing to travel for a good meal).

The Bayern Bauerische sampler. Kassler (cured and smoked pork chop, a Bratwurst, and grilled leberkase on a bed of home fries and sauerkraut.

For desert a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with honey liqueur. (I want to say it’s called Bährenjaeger, but I am likely wrong. Maybe one of our deutschesprachen (I think this is right, but meine deutsch ist schlecht) freunden can help us out there. (@FleshCrunch, am I even close?)

I had pizza from Mod for dinner and an ice cream sandwich for dessert.

:joy: thats very nice. I never thought of german restaurants in other countrys like spain or italian once
I never heard of that ice cream. Maybe its just an bavarian thing

I know several in NY, this one just happens to be my favorite. It’s attached to a beautiful butcher shop with lots of nice German imported foodstuffs.

It seems like something my cousin would do with the egg liqueur he makes at his farm, although ice cream topped with booze seems likely to have popped up outside of Bavaria as well as in Bavaria.

Super cool  tried Wiener Schnitzel? Currywurst? Rouladen? So much good german food beside of the bavarian

Maybe I’m totally not into dessert :joy:

Yes. I don’t usually order veal, but I’ve indulged.

Yes. I had it from an Imbiss stand in Wien as well as here in the states. I’ve yet to meet a wurst I don’t like. :yum:

Definitely. My family is mostly from Bavaria, so those are the things I’m most familiar with. I will eat anything though, so no plate is safe. One of my favorite things in life is leberkase. Grilled and topped with a fried egg. Do you have any suggestions? If I can’t find it I’ll either travel for it or learn to make it. I make pretty good red cabbage and decent spaetsle, but I would like to tackle sauerbraten someday soon.

I had a room mate who had just moved back to Canada after having completed his chef’s training in Hamburg and had done a tenure at The Four Seasons and at Österreich under Manfred Stocker (RIP).

Needless to say, I ate very well.
