The population of multiplayer

hwr is taking a fallout break

You are dreaming man. I bought this game with the idea that it would be fully operational and sort of balanced within 2-3 months… This did not happen and like myself have abandoned this game because the devs dont get the time to fix the problems multiplayer had to begin with. They said it was beta but they launched a broken multiplayer part to start with. Slapping beta on it should have been a sign…

The launch already killed the community because it was BROKEN to begin with… I know a big part of rts players dont tend to go online but they really killed it for me and friends of mine. The fix took ages and so this game is dead.

Back to Company of heroes 2 for me!!! If the devs read this please look at how relic informs there community and fixes the game!

I can’t disagree to be honest.
I myself am on the edge of abandoning this title until the Beta sticker is removed and there’s reasonable evidence that the game is as operational as is reasonable in my mind.

It shouldn’t have released, or if it did, Early Access would’ve been a better idea in my mind.

I may be more patient than most.

Continuing the discussion from The population of multiplayer:

I’ll say!

I need to complete Fallout 4 before I can resume Life. This might take awhile.

From what I can see from my Hwr dominated friends list…this applies to many

I’m sure it certainly helps. It’s a good thing we have other games to indulge ourselves with.

Played some after being MIA for some months.
Saw about 10 people online, had 2 games in a row with less than 5 minutes of waiting and they were moderately good players too. Not bad.

Yeah, I’ve popped on for test games a few times in the past couple weeks and there always seem to be a good handful of people in games at the time.

There are certainly players online. You can find a game. Heartening news for sure, for now anyway.

Personally, I am choosing to wait. I can’t stand the one track to BC games and only played one game in the last 2 months. The new patch will certainly be a rude awakening to players who rely only on this strategy.

huge wall of text read at own risk:

Personally i think all this talk of BC op and such just comes from ppl who either play on the huge maps (CB hyper arena and such where you can basically rush it) and in any case do not know how to play vs it in 1v1 (cross race synergy can be hard to beat tho with hw1 grav)

if you are ahead in strike-craft then BC is useless to the enemy, simply target its subsystems and leave it for last, engines for veygr (and move out of its front arc once its down), and ions for hig, as veygr you should have BC later than a hig player, but have fighter control for most of the game due to your emp, higaran only regain the advantage once it gets enough flak to shoot down your scouts in time, and in this time you can have your own BC (assuming enemy went for BC making it safe to go for it yourself (and if you cannot afford it safely it means you lost a long time ago in resources) and use it to slowly dismantle enemy capships and flaks from max range. now as higaran you can try to force a fight in the quite significant window where you have BC speed and HP upps and the enemy does not due to the cost and eco difference,
failing this, you can use cloak to approach veygr BC and stop the kiting (anti cloak probes need to be killed as they arive with your fighter-force, also you can decloak one frigate while keeping the rest of the fleet cloaked first to bait BC missiles and volley, either way the idea is to start the fight off in range so no kiting happens and you have an even trade with the better higaran eco (and once vey BC is gone nothing will stop the sub BC flak+optimal army from higaran (remember hig econ is slightly better so even trades are awesome))
if you do not want to risk using cloak there is also another way, but it demands careful unit movement, have BC/carriers with FCT about 7-8K range away from enemy BC, have lot of ion frigates in front barely in FCT range, this way the ions are in range of enemy BC and FCT, but enemy BC cannot shoot anything but your ions, it turns out ions beat veygr BC cost for cost due to the low accuracy of the trinity cannon vs frigs, now if the veygr player moves destroyers or anything else with sub BC range to fight the ions YOUR OWN BC is now in range of those units (while still outranging enemy BC) essentially this lets you both have your BC in the fight (with no possibility to have vey BC kite the hig BC and kill it) and the higaran BC is much better at not over-killing and hitting smaller capships than the vey BC is, so you come out on top here as higaran (this needs careful micro and its up to the veygr player to feint and try to make the higaran player bungle here)

i dont often bother to write on the forums so i tried to cover the “perfect” situation here of 2 players going at it countering logically in the lategame, ofc in most games so many mistakes happen that im sure there are openings in most games to do other sneaky stuff to out-think the enemy, but failing all that here is how you can play i out as both sides in an even endgame, now as i am not rly a taiidan player (hw1 HC outranges hig BC btw, but its rly tight, so hig should play as if vs veygr vs them, but ofc cant do offensive fighter stuff due to grav well (but wins the straight up slugfest if they can use the cloak trick to get close)) i cant rly talk too much about what the taiidan should do other than it seems like it has to play as a veygr, but has a harder time kiting, but no fear of enemy fighters due to grav well (and kushan is a race i still cant wrap my head around in the lategame (DFF is sick nasty, drones are obsolete with grav well (well i guess it lets you leave the grav off and use your own fighters i guess)))

dont take this the wrong way, at first i also assumed the game was “decided by the BC” but eventually i realized the BC is just the payoff for the shipyard investment (if you can get a BC out and the enemy cannot aford to match it without losing fighter control the bc DID NOT decide the game, it was over long ago, the winning player just played it safe) however on a roughly even footing the presence of BCs themselves simply need to be played appropriately around depending on the racial MU, just right clicking the enemy BC and “going for it” with your own fleet will win it for the higarans, kiting from the vey wins it for them, and then it is up to the higaran to do one of the 2 difficult counters i described above to win again (and the veygr must prevent it by mixing his movements up+getting and protecting anticloak), in MOST of my games i only see the right click and go for it or kiting used leading to “higaran BC op” and “veygr BC range op” respectively, but by experimenting with army compositions and tactics you can find solutions for everything in the HW2 match up at least (i cant speak for kush vs taiidan or mixed race teamgame builds (hypertorp+hypergrav hw1 seems pretty strong)

my ingame name is Singrana if anyone would like to play (going with the spirit of the thread in general, i have been able to find games since the day the game came out and dont rly see the issue), or would like ask any question of how i play the HvsV matchup, i primarily play 1v1 on imposed cosmos, and not rly a huge fan of CB due to it being too big / essentially a 1d tunnel between the bases (shield is also kinda 1d come to think of it) but any medium sized map (preferably 3d) im a fan of (however im open to playing team-games or maps i dont like as much if others want)

i also stream sometimes, but im not rly consistent about it, im not rly a fast asian or anything, but i find in HW you can make up for it by doing clever tactics, its not starcraft 2 where units turn on a dime and you can stutter-step micro and such, planing beats fast clicks, and the uncertainty of fighter combat + the way different unit mixes play out gives great excitement and replay-ability

I have to say, I skimmed your whole post.

I’m more about mixed fleet action. Frigates are going to be the mainstay of the upcoming patch.

BC’s were just too powerful in this iteration of the series, it was never like that in the original, to my understanding. We all understand there are counters, and tactics, and strategies we can use, but the BC is just too damn annoying in my opinion.

I should be able to win games against opponents that have BC’s without having to build my own. That was possible in the originals and I don’t ever remember the BCs ever being such a nuisance. I can bomb them all day long and they will take it and then some.

I am not sure if you have played the gearbox balance testing mod, but I am very much waiting for those BC nerfs and changes to be implemented in the game. I am glad was able to field test some of these changes, but it ruined the vanilla for me. I am patiently waiting for the patch.

I started out feeling that BC’s were fine, but it just got REALLY BORING. SO BORING.

I’m not really going to get into the whole BC discussion though. It’s just a personal opinion.

What’s done is done, and what is getting done, will get done, so everyone will have to get used to the new changes coming. I am looking forward to it.

On a side note, I really hope there is some sort of holiday release planned. That would be cool. However, if it isn’t to be, then it isn’t to be. I am ready to wait another ten years.

Is gbx still working on this?

As far as we know, yes, but they’re being excessively quiet about it.

Yes, they are, they are taking some time on the next changes, pretty big changes so it is taking longer.

Might do that as well… But the Taiidan Republic mod is keeping me interested…

Good to hear it! I am wondering if they will make the big update, take multiplayer out of beta, and then go on a marketing drive… In which case we should see lots more players coming in, which would be a good thing, for us and for Gearbox.

I hope that if they do release alot of new changes that they will be more user friendly to custom map makers , people who want to host custom maps and people who join games that host a custom map. Literally I mean it becomes as easy as sticking a file in a directory and then host away.

Wasn’t gbx giving away free copies of HWR with the pre-purchase of HW:Deserts of Kharak?
