The reality of Mayhem 2.0 and number

Topic edited to add the fact that quest item also don’t scale, meaning that all those item that you can’t get another way (Seven sense …) are dead

Base game is 8 months old, we have a production team building the rest of the season pass and the live hotfix team.
Also, Borderlands 3 was built in the Unreal 4 engine from scratch. So GB are using new development tools.

Best way I can understand it is the engine technology is new and the bulk code is huge. Open up a file on PC and read the code lol

You wouldn’t like to know about programming languages that are used to build software, then. Some of them are decades old and still have bugs

Regardless, I hope they get a lot of the obvious issues sorted quickly, otherwise it’s really going to put a damper on this patch (which fixed a ton of things). Quest items and rewards not scaling, Moxxi’s tipped items not scaling, chests (!) not scaling. All of those should 100% be sorted (especially chests! Otherwise they’ll never be able to run a proper Loot Chest event again).

I’ll be honnest, the fact that those don’t scale is NOT a bug, it’s totally by design. Don’t expect any changes on this, at least not until everyone is already full stuff and leg become meaningless again

I mean why would they have finally added the skullsmasher as a drop boss item while it was a chest only before?

Are you telling me that the hardest difficulty in the game is… Hard?

The is a difference between hard and painfully annoying. Hard cause it require good gear and good gameplay? i’m okay with that. Hard cause you need to run around and hide for 30 minute cause you get rocket spammer by ennemy you need to lock for 30sec to 1 minute to kill? That’s bad design.

I agree with you, M10 is for really challenge and/or raid, that’s ok. The issue for me though is some modifiers that make gameplay not hard, but impossible in some places.
For example the link when close to enemies is pretty damn impossible with characters that are not Zane in certain areas where there is a lot of close combat enemies.

Yep. It caters to damage builds and most potent guns leaving everything else in sludge. Said Bear - its not bad in any way. Double cryo miniguns with no damage skills for it outperform Hornet (or was it Nemesis?) against armor. Prity good legendary pistol but it wont deal with enemies in timely fashion on higher Ms and neither would action skill.

Agree with you 1,000%
Hard content is great! It stops the game from going stale, BUT mind numbingly stupid , ridiculous hard is completely different.
When Anointed Militants/Zealots show up, you have to quit the game and start again, which is pathetic. There’s nothing you can do when they arrive…You either risk a 2 hour battle with them while trying to dodge some freaking Bad ass Hardened rocket launcher chick, who apparently has clairvoyance to know exactly where you’re hiding at all times, and who is spamming an apparently infinite supply of rockets at you, or you die, that’s it

This is NOT fun, it’s very poor game design

I apologize for every negative thing I said about Rabid Stalkers in Borderlands 2, as I thought they were the worse enemies ever created…Nobody told me that 1 day I would face sexy, mutant, rocket chick and her Anointed Zealot buddies :stuck_out_tongue:

To be fair, with some build I actually manage M10. It’s “possible”. It’s just mind numing long and boring. Also it require the use of OP build. Without abusing the fact that life steal is super OP, and that some weapons are not balanced, it’s impossible.

My Seeing Dead Zane with 3 Lob manage to do it, but it’s painfully long and annoying.

Also there is the issue of amunition management, it’s basically IMPOSSIBLE to play the game without a cutpurse with rockets to quick regen amno, or you need to farm while machine hugging

This is what irritates me. I was loving this gun and it’s only been available a fairly short time and now it’s completely worthless if you want to scale up to M10. Is there any way to get one of these without leveling another character to max level and doing the DLC again? GB…seriously…this is insanity. Why are you making cool weapons only to make them obsolete in a matter of weeks??

In an unrelated story…can anyone tell me how I’m supposed to tell what mayhem level something is? I see no marking on them and the gear score isn’t even any different that I can tell.

I think @Wumgum is saying that it quest rewards don’t scale even if you get them now.

Oh well if that is the case…isn’t that just broken? I mean why would they purposely make all mission rewards pointless on purpose? I’m confused.

I haven’t confirmed it myself but I’ve seen multiple people say that this is the case.

I can confirm that none of the following scale:

Vending Machines
Golden Chest
Items gained through mail from manufactures (presumably crew challenge rewards as well)

Might have been to prevent people getting M10 weapons with minimal effort. It’s a draconian solution, but it might have been the only one available without overhauling the whole system.

Mission rewards have always been handled horribly in Borderlands. But Gearbox really has no excuse the fourth time round.

chests are probably intentional… people where allready saying they would just farm chests on M10 when the patch would launch…

so i think GB chose to have them not scale for the time being…

I mean, what the point of setting safeguard and then making the planet event? Took me a few hours of farm and I already have most of my top weapon, M10 version, on the four character (two of them already having the full build).

Yeah, we couldn’t cheat out way and use chest/quest item to skip. The first few mobs were more painfull, then I dropped my first viable leg, then the rest followed slowly but surely.

It’s pointless, appart from screwing people (I think most people loved the seventh sense)

To be honnest, the problem we encounter here, meaning absolutely mind numbly stupid design decision, isn’t really GearBox specific. Most studio nowadays just throw in whatever they think sound cool (and sometimes it is) without even testing it, of thinking about how practical it is.

Just curious, how did you get M10 versions so quickly? Did you rely on the essentially broken guns, like the recursion? (To be clear, I ain’t judging)

I already had a pretty solid build, meaning my old gun were already pretty decent. I went to area where I know there would be low density of badass (one at a time) to drop my first M10 legendaries.
Then as soon as I got 1 good fire leg (I lucked out and got a krakatoa) I relied on the planetary even (here the link to the Loot by zone : Loot The Universe Mini Event Info Sharing) to farm specific piece of gear I needed to quickly gear my Zane (Honnestly, went full ■■■■■■ full lob by farming the cathedral). Farming the cathedral was painfull, but extremely fast. Once I got my lob, I just went area by area farming the main leg I needed on all character (Hellshock, Maggie …)

After some further testing with modifier :

Rank 1, meant to help you

  • Lootsplosion : So uterly useless it’s an insult. Yeah, it’ll drop a few green and blue
  • Boomer : Must have if you play a grenade build. Useless in other case
  • Speed demon : Absolutely gigantic speed boost, absolutely insane. Perfectly useless since we currently spent a shitload of time actually killing ennemies. It might help on Zane
  • +25% damage +100% spread and recoil : Seriously? Appart if you use a weapon that don’t give a damn about spread and recoil, this is a massive nerf to your DPS instead of buffing you
  • Big head : This one is silly, but god damn strong as it make going full crit way easier

Rank 2 :
Most are fine, and just require some additional gameplay, but two of them are insanely annoying :

  • Enemy get stacking resistance against the damage that you use, stack up to 60%
  • The floor is lava : It’s not fun, you get freaking spammed with this ■■■■, you can’t stop running to pick up an item, of to aim, seriously overtuned

Rank 3 :
Nothing that shocked me, I think

Rank 4 :
Tremendous balance issue here :

  • Death : Cause a small skull to run at you and OS you. Honnestly, the skull has SO much HP I found it more worthy to prep an enemy, jump on the skull to trigger FFYL, and then kill the preped enemy. It has an insane amount of HP
  • Elemental invulnerability + nova : Manageable I think, but it’ll turn your brain into paste trying to adapt to all enemies having dfferent immunity
  • Rogue life : This one piss me off. The FFYL is a gigantic BAND AID on the fact that enemies are poorly balanced, and you can get OS for no reason, tanking off FFYL is okay, but fix the damn game first
  • 75% crit : As if the enemies weren’t ALREADY bullet spongey enough
  • +25% crit -50% non crit This is a buff, not a challenging modifier
  • Immunity drone : This one is actually way more fun than I thought
