I get that it might be good for console but the whole UI is TERRIBLE ON PC, it’s as if whoever designed didn’t think of the fact that on PC people HAVE A DAMN MOUSE TO USE. When swapping weapons sometime it’ll swap a completely different weapon rather than the one I selected out of my equipped guns, you cannot fast travel with only your mouse and you HAVE TO hold E to warp, sometimes the selection will get stuck on the map and be completely bugged out, navigating your inventory with anything but arrow keys/wasd is a nightmare, you’re constantly toggling and switching menus back and fourth with hot keys that aren’t consistent as to which ones you need to use, PLEASE let me use the num row to toggle which page of the echo menu I’m on, sometimes when I’m trying to exit out of my inventory I’ll have to keep hitting ESC over and over again till it finally exits out of the menu instead of just zooming a little bit of it out and then back in again, TAB is a bit more consistent for exiting the inventory. It’s just overall really poorly designed and makes for quite an infuriating experience overall, borderlands games have never had good PC UI but if you could please hire someone who specialises in making good UI it would be amazing

When I first saw the “new UI” on PC, thought it was some bug, 'cause we all know (if somebody didn’t, now they know), that this UI is for consoles and it came after a patch in September? October? if I remember correctly. Never thought I say this and I’m sorry for it, but it’s awful. You can not listen to an ECHO log, because the list just slides back to the top. And the inventory. Sometimes when you open it, it puts you to the bottom of your inventory, sometimes to the top or the middle. If you sell all your guns marked as junk with X and you visit a vending machine next time, you will always be put back to the top of your inventory after selling guns individually. I usually (try to) quit the ECHO menu by hitting ESC, but if you moved the mouse just once, God bless, you have to tap ESC a million times again. Traveling is annoying. Holding E to travel and if you have more fast travel locations on a map and you hover the mouse by mistake, sometimes you teleport to some other location. Catch-a-Ride system is a mess too. Choosing the parts every time you try to load your vehicle, specially if you’re hunting for paint jobs and you need the Tesla Coil. I read some topic some months ago, that Loadout 2 and 5 maybe? works fine, it saves the loadout. But still, awful.

I think at this point it’s safe to assume that there would be no major UI changes, or to the whole game in general.

This behavior seems to be from hooking Escape to dropping the pop up descriptions on hover (instead of ignoring them). Escape drops the pop up, and the mouse movement instantly throws another pop up, so the next Escape gets hung on that.

This should be an easy fix, since we can see exactly what’s causing the issue (though I say that not knowing what caused that hook in the first place, though I’m certain it wasn’t intentional). I have no idea why the interface drops us off at random sections of our gear when going back into the menu… like I figured part of the initialization of that screen whenever opening it was to park the gear list back at the top (and I have zero idea why Fast Travel is wonky).

What makes you say that?

I have this vision that they’re a little burned after an aggressive period of once-a-week fixes and events and once-a-month set of larger releases, combined with COVID complications, working remotely, and waning public support (if not oughtright hostility on social media, including these forums). This doesn’t lend itself to in-depth testing, so the net effect of this aggressive work schedule was a bug list as big if not bigger than before (and waning public support), and they had to call it off to regroup.

What makes me say this is that these phenomena are plaguing many other businesses, and I’d be surprised if Gearbox was immune. It feels like someone in charge called it and said, “everyone stop and take a breath - when we’re whole enough to get back at it, we’ll resume rolling out Hotfixes/balances, but take the time you need to make sure they won’t tweak anything else”. The timing would let them chill and relax as they could through the holiday season, to get back at it after some rest. A week from now will be a month since the last Hotfix, but if I didn’t see another Hotfix published until February, that wouldn’t surprise me.

The game isn’t so rough that I don’t enjoy playing it, but dang if I’m not looking forward to them getting back on their feet to knock out some of these dents.

My favourite is changing the Quit to Desktop button position between menu screens. So many times I hit the button while farming by accident thinking I’m on the previous screen.

I’m having a hard time believing Gearbox is leaving BL3 as broken as it is right now.

Yes playing on PC the menus are beyond frustrating, I’m doing simple things like marking gear for fav or trash and the selection jumps to the backpack icon then you have to re-select the gear to complete the action, then trying to get back to your vehicle, forget about it, they might as well remove the vehicle fast travel it’s so broken.

Another frustrating thing constantly happening is going to a machine and it shows your current gear or even your decoration items instead of what’s in the machine, and to top that off at times I have to press Esc about 5 times just to exit a machine.

I could rant on but at least got that off my chest.

BL2 interface was criticized, but it was not improved in Pre-Sequel. OK, maybe that was a quick ‘standalone bigger DLC’ type of game, as the menus and interface was exactly like BL2, because it was BL2.

But over these years, many suggestions were made, many requests were asked for as well, and in polite well-formatted form, nothing offensive or toxic.

What is the result? The UI in BL3 is at best the same level as BL2, and in some ways, even clunkier (fast travel galaxy/planet/zone/location submenus with animations) and laggier; can’t skip dialogue (a feature requested since 2015), and ability to skip cutscenes added only 5 months or so after release of the game, etc.

I don’t think the UI will change or improve. I feel the Director’s Cut will add some new ways or modes to play the game, maybe a new zone or two and that would be it.

I think the UI in 3 is absolutely worse than 2, for the most of it the UI in 1 worked, just the lack of sorting and proper segmentation hurt it but it wasn’t clunky

the game’s already getting it’s re-releases on the new consoles, I highly doubt anything major will change.

Yeah, and I don’t like what they did to the UI in the Enhanced version. They tried to give it a BL2/BL3ish look with renderings of the pieces of gear but it just doesn’t feel right. The old one was perhaps about as exciting to look at as a Windows folder view but it worked well enough.
