@Stouty22: What’s logic?

@TemetNosce: So you’re gonna be modding tacos?

@Derch: That, sir, is how horror films are made. When your tacos begin to show signs of sentience, be VERY afraid, for they may decide to

They already have, I think they are watching me sleep, tacos everywhere, there is no escape

It seems to me that a problem you can eat your way out of is just an opportunity you haven’t capitalized on

I’ve had tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 2 weeks and yet the pile grows…

Sir, I think you need an intervention. Tacos are clearly taking your life over ;p

How exactly did you end up with so much taco material?

TA: Taco Anonymous.

Sadly, Taco Anonymous had to be closed down because of the massive damages that occurred after Gir rampaged through the building for trying to be cured of tacos.

Look on the bright side: at least he didn’t go all metric on you and order 40 kilos…

I had to clear my coffee table to make it a taco table

Aha! I KNEW you’d be one of those English adults who cling to the idea of imperial measurements as a vestige of national pride, scorning base 10!

Coffee tacos and taco coffee. Problem solved!

Having lived through decimalisation as a school student, one of my favourite cartoons is still a hardware store one from Punch magazine: “Sorry sir, can’t do you ten dozen now we’ve gone metric. I can do you twelve tens though!”

And I still laugh every time I see a sheet of plywood labelled as 1219 x 2438 mm (metric in Canada also)

Isn’t still a thing to list weight in stones over there?

Yes, a lot of people still work in stones for eg weighing people and pounds/ounces for cooking, even though technically I think everything except distance is officially measured in metric. In everyday life a lot of people - especially people about my parents’ age or over - still doggedly stick to imperial, and most businesses will accept orders in either.

This muddle is one of the things I find quite annoying about the UK. Metric measurements are far more practical than imperial ones, because base 10 makes multiplacation and division easier in the majority of cases. It also matches us up with the rest of Europe, which makes sense from a trade perspective (although of course integration with Europe is somewhat out of favour right now). And whichever system we do use, I feel it’s generally helpful to actually use it, rather than vacillating between two entirely incompatible systems.

I love when a smartassed question is met with a sincere and well reasoned response.

It’s the downside of spending your life writing academic stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:

That said, I did once have an American friend sincerely ask me whether we still use shillings in England.

Realized I’ve been subbed to derch for 9 months.
