A wide variety of things pissed me off this weekend, actually.
Kind of a rough one.
Hope you all had a better one than I did!

Still struggling (as usual) with writing. Flailing and failure. Parents rang up and I snapped at them which I feel guilty about… have turned off my phone so I don’t have to deal with disappointed emails from my supervisor, heh. Very grateful to have this place, helps me get through.
Serious talk here. Have you ever considered that maybe this just isn’t for you? Your heart isn’t into it and you don’t seem happy at all.
Honestly, the only way to deal with this, is to take a step back.
@hattieinduni
Looking down the line, completing this thesis will hopefully get you, what, a doctorate?
Is that how these things work?
What do you hope to accomplish after that?
Teaching?
Further study / research?
Do you have a specific career in mind?
As others have suggested, maybe it is time to take a step back (even if only for a bit) and reexamine your goals and desires?
Even if it just changes up your mental gears for a short while, that could allow your subconscious mind to work away on advancing your thesis.
You are a brilliant, passionate, and obviously very talented person, there are soooooo many things out there that you could apply your big brain to!
This kitty wants you to stay positive:
Was cleaning eggs, and one broke all over my pants.
Damn dude. Eggs just leaping at your soldiers huh?
Slow clap.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm nope.
I dun geddit.
women. their egg jumping at your pants.
Managing to break one of those eggs all over me is a very violent image.
Not eggscellent, dude.
booooooooo
I’m not the “woman expert” here but I don’t think it works like that.
I need to vent, and this seems like the spot for it. Just describing my woes in detail from the RTT thread.
So about two weeks ago, I notice that a particular report that we need for one of the desks I support hasn’t gone out. The manager that usually sends it hadn’t been, and I knew the report had been generated at least once since then.
I decided to try a little bit, and reached out to one of the contacts we have for that desk. He gave me the information. I requested that myself and 3 other people on the desk be added to a DL that distributes it. He provided the information on how to search for the report in our ticketing system as well. I notified my manager and the three people I’d requested get added, and included that information.
It’s at that point that said manager gets pissed and starts asking why I didn’t already know this, it was on a Knowledge Base resource. Another person in the chain says that it’s on that resource. I ask him to clarify what resource he’s discussing, and sure enough, it’s a KB that I’ve never seen. He cites how “concerning” it is that I don’t have access to it and starts asking how I’ve been doing my job.
So tonight it came to a head after I’d attempted to call him three times during my off hours from home on it. I sent him a fairly large email explaining how the two emails about the KB were missed (we were dealing with a different more useless kb that was followed up on because essentially the client was demanding it), and that of the 5 off shifters I’d talked to, only 2 had seen the resource before and even they said they had issues finding anything of relevance in it.
All because third shift is the ■■■■ up shift obviously and doesn’t need to know anything.
I don’t know anything to say that can help, but that sucks and is frustrating as hell.
Reminds me of various scenarios I had to deal with in my too brief but far and away best job I have ever had in the…■■■■…what was the name of the department…it wasn’t document management…it wasn’t IT…it wasn’t web development…it was a tiny little department that was like a combination of all three of the departments I had mentioned, it was started as an experiment, at Bantrell Engineering, where my dad used to work, and he got me the opportunity to intern with them for 6 months.
We had to troubleshoot a lot of things for a lot of people and crap like what you described used to happen a lot when we were assisting people from other departments and they would blame us for their own idiocy, which we would quickly reveal to them.
We weren’t wrong very often at all and we all (in our weird little department) had each other’s backs.
Sadly, the company then almost went bankrupt so that whole department got shut down.
I miss that job.
The “Welp, I’m awake.” pain. That and annoyance with politics yesterday.
My ISP. It’s now my bitch but what a night. I’m going to nap now.
My furnace seems to have stopped working.
My house is like ICE.
Beefy is shivering.
Luckily temps are supposed to increase to around 0 degrees Celsius for about another week and the forecasts say no new snow is due, but I don’t know when my dad (whose house I am caretaking) is coming back from his next business trip and I certainly can’t afford to pay a furnace repair guy.
I found this furnace home repair 5 point checklist, and it must be something deeper, harder to see, not listed on that list.
And I’m no handyman.
This really sucks.
Why couldn’t this have happened in the summer?
Any tips or advice?
