The Writer's Thread

With Illith involved, there would be gore. A lot of dismemberment from her.

Adding, her and my dark elf commander Revan are blademasters. Revan beheads his fallen foes and take their weapon much like Gilgamesh from folklore. He has like nine different weapons on him at all times. Illith carries around a couple of knives and two blades much like a Witcher thus the inspiration for her character. She’s also got an inborn healing factor which allows her to heal deep wounds and age slowly. She got shot a couple times by Smoke in the finale of the first book and still stood against her without much problem.

This universe seems very interesting, to say the least. In a good way, I’d love to read more about it

Eh, Revan is from Warhammer, have a back story written for him. I need to fix his model, he needs his wolf mount. I’ll eventually get to it.

Blackgard is mainly about, the short version, an affliction spread over the kingdom by one of the King’s former top advisers who turns rogue and goes to necromancy. The King hires a thief and a criminal in Smoke to save herself from imprisonment, she must find the source of the plague and steal back the antidote for this disease. However, things don’t always work out for her.

I quite like it.

I’ve decided to set my WW2 story in an alternate universe where the US invades the home islands instead of dropping the atomic bombs. First battle is going to follow a private in the USMC when they storm a beach on Honshu Island. I’m also gonna have perspective from pilots and navy officers who support the battle by shelling Japanese positions. Second battle will be an aerial battle between Zeros and Hellcats that are protecting bombers in their way to Tokyo. Final battle will be the Army defending a Japanese counter attack after they captured a bunker complex

That sounds like a great, and I will be looking forward to reading it if you drcide to share. I’m fine with blood and stuff too, but not sure about everyone else. Maybe we can do spoiler tags or the drop-down thingy around potentially triggering material.

I got a writing handbook a few days back, and have been reading it lately, and my writing is already improving, especially sentence structure and flow. I may type something up soon to share, since everyone else is. Most of the stuff I write has darker (but not super graphic) themes in it though, so if that’s not your thing, might want to skip my stories.

I think what I’ll do is post the beginning of each story, and then if people want to read the rest of it I can PM the file, just to keep it clean on here

Two more things I’m considering. First, following someone from the Navy who is part of a naval convoy that gets attacked by Japanese planes, ships and Subs. Second, I think I’ll eventually have someone drop an atomic bomb on Tokyo, so I’m gonna do that from the perspective of the B-29 pilot who flies the plane that drops the bomb

Apologies for all the consecutive posts, but this idea is getting me really excited and I want to share it with everyone. So this is the (most likely) finalized scenarios that will take place.

  1. The USS Iowa shelling in preparation for the beach invasion. Additionally, a Dauntless pilot conducts a bombing run against the beach but runs into trouble when Ki-84s pop up. He is saved by an American pilot in an F8F and carries out his mission, destroying an artillery position and heavily damaging fortifications on the beach

  2. The US Marines who actually land on the beach. It’s going to play out much like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan, where most of the men get massacred as the doors to the landing craft open up. Those who do survive hide behind various objects on the beach and call in artiller and air support from the Navy (this will tie in with the first one, including the men on the beach seeing the two pilots fight the Ki-84s). After another round of shelling, bombing and strafing runs, the men charge up the beaches and are met with a hail of bullets. After heavy losses, they manage to capture the beach, taking no prisoners

  3. After taking the beach and bunker complex, the Americans bring in the rest of their troops, which includes the Army. After a couple days, the Japanese mount a massive counterattack to try and retake the beach. Hordes of enemies charge the Americans, overrunning them and killing most. Those who manage to get away hunker down behind whatever they can find on the beach, waiting for help. Eventually an order comes in that the Navy is to destroy the entire complex. An intense campaign of shelling from the Iowa class ships, as well as sustained bombing and strafing runs from carrier craft eventually accomplish the goal, killing hundreds of Japanese soldiers, and likely many Americans as well

  4. C-47 pilots are carrying US Paratroopers behind enemy lines to sabotage enemy positions such as artillery, field guns, pillboxes and railway tracks. They come under fire from Ki-84s, as well as ground based AA guns. Their fighter escorts take out most of the Japanese fighters, but are downed by the intense bombardment. The Paratroopers are forced to jump early, scattering them around the countryside. Small groups of them meet up to continue the mission they were given. The group we follow manages to take out the AA guns that downed their planes, as well as sabotage a railway track and multiple other objectives.

  5. A naval resupply convoy is headed to the island to support the troops, protected by an aircraft carrier and multiple battleships, cruisers and Destroyers. The convoy comes under attack from Japanese Submarines, sinking three of their supply ships. Torpedo bombers are scrambled to find and eliminate the threat. They get two of the subs, but one manages to score a fatal hit on a destroyer before it is sunk. The other subs retreat into the depths, and the convoy is placed on high alert. Suddenly, as if out of nowhere, A6M Zeros emerge from the clouds, heading straight for the ships. Most are taken out, but two manage to slam into the flight deck of the carrier, crippling it until it gets to port. Another drops a Torpedo that hits a Battleship, wounding it but not knocking it out. The same plane then careens into the side of a Cruiser, hitting the ammo depot and sending it up in flames

  6. A swarm of B-29 and B-25 bombers is heading towards Tokyo, prepared to deal a massive blow against the Empire. They come under fire from AA guns and aircraft. The combination of heavy firepower from tail gunners, as well as the escort fighter make quick work of the planes, but the AA guns persist. A couple brave B-25 pilots dive their aircraft towards the ground and release their payload, striking the AA guns and taking them out. Unfortunately, two of the planes were hit hard and crash into the countryside. The surviving ones are forced to turn back, as they no longer have any use in the mission. The remaining bombers reach Tokyo and, to put it mildly, rain holy hell upon the city.

  7. After months of intense fighting on the island, the Japanese government refuses to surrender and the Americans are still stuck outside Tokyo, fighting a ferocious and seemingly unstoppable enemy who will do anything to protect the homeland. The US is left with only one, devastating option: A nuclear strike on the Japanese capital. An order is given for all US troops near Tokyo to retreat in advance of the bombing. A few days later, leaflets are dropped, warning Japan to surrender or (to use Trump’s words) they will experience fire and fury like the world has never seen. Japan ignores the warning, and two days later, a 20 kT nuclear bomb is dropped on Tokyo, killing hundreds of thousands and leveling the city in a matter of seconds

Guys I need other people to post I’m starting to look crazy. Anyways, I just found 3 papers I wrote for fun during my high school career. First was a 50 page paper on the relative ineffectiveness of stealth technology in a modern war. Second was a 27 page paper on US foreign policy in the middle East throughout history. Final was a 30 something page paper on how to combat international terrorism and why we’re doing it wrong

I thought about doing a story about a young boy drafted into the military in a World War 1 type scenario and his team (except maybe one other, war-experienced older guy) is wiped out. Not sure about further plot, but I think about it sometimes.

An idea I write about every so often is a Psychiatrist guy. I want to write it as a longer story, but i’m working on a plot which isn’t much right now, so I just have a few unconnected short stories about him in my folder.

  1. The first story starts off on the USS Missouri, an Iowa class Battleship operating in the Pacific Theater during World War 2. This part of the story follows Seaman Apprentice Lloyd J. Edwards, who signed up for the Navy immediately follwing the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the USS Yorktown carrier during the battle of midway, and afterwards was promoted and reassigned to the Missouri soon afterwards. He works on the bridge of the ship, calling targets and looking out for enemy planes. He witnesses the awesome power of the main battery firsthand, as well as the aerial battle over the fort. The second part of this story follows Airman Frank V. Bergstrom, an A-26 pilot in the US Navy, as he conducts a bombing run against the beach fortifications. He angles his planes nose down and fire 4 rockets at a Japanese Pillbox, comepletly destroying it. As he pulls up from the dive, he realizes there are two Ki-84 planes coming for him. He turns his plane, aiming for another large Fortification on the beach. As soojn as he can, he drops the entire load of bombs and sends a large part of the bunker complex up in flames. He angles the nose slightly downwards, intending to conduct a strafing run with rockets and the Machine guns in his nose, when suddenly the tail of the plane gets hit by the Ki-84s main cannons, causing the plane to lose a bit of control. The gunner starts firing off the back cannons and manages to damage the engine of one of the enemy planes, forcing it to turn back to base. Before he can do any more damage, however, the rest of the tail is torn apart by 30mm cannons, causing the plane to enter a tailspin. During this battle, the pilot was still conducting his strafing runs, damaging another pillbox and taking out two machine gunner positions on the beach. The plane crash lands onto the beach, unfortunately missing any Japanese positions. The final part of this story follows James S. Alvarez, another airmen of the US Navy, who pilots the naval version of the P-51 Mustang fighter. He was conducting a light bombing run against machine gunner positions, and eliminated three of them with no resistance aside from small arms fire from the enemies on the ground. He is getting ready to turn back to the carrier group when he sees two Ki-84s chasing an A-26. He takes a wide turn to come up behind the Japanese planes. He gets one plane in his sights when suddenly it is blown out of the sky by the tail gunner on the A-26. He takes a sharp right turn to avoid being hit by the wreckage of the plane. Once he gets back on track, he attempts to get the other plane in his sights. Just as he does so, intense firepower erupts from the front of the plane, shredding through the A-26. In a momentary fit of anger, Alvarez fires a stream of bullets at the Ki-84, massacring the right wing and destroying the fuselage. The Ki-84 enters a deadly tailspin and crashes into a hill, attempting to avoid friendly positions on the beach. Alvarez looks towards the wreck of the A-26 and salutes it. On his way back, he says a small prayer to the deceased aboard the aircraft. As he passes over the beach, his wing is partially destroyed by a Japanese AA gun that he missed on his bombing run. He ejects from his plane in an attempt to save his life, but is picked off by a Japanese sniper on the beach. His lifeless body floats down and falls into the water, a grim foreshadowing of the events to unfold in the days to come.

Ignore the spelling errors, I’ve fixed them now. I’m writing these outlines on an app that doesn’t have spell check, so I only pick up on some of them once I’ve backed them up on google drive

While working on my New Age concept, I came up with a completely cool concept called “Arclight”, it’s kind of a dystopia/neo-western style story filled with super humans, killer robots, and other cool stuff. I already came up with original characters and their place in this world. If people want more details on it, I’ll pm you.

I’ve always been fairly naturally gifted at writing; when I was younger (say, up to when i was 13 and my parents got divorced) I used to write a LOT. Poems, short stories, what have you.

Then my parents got divorced and partying, drugs, booze, depression, etc, took over my life for a long time.

Been meaning to get back into writing for literally two decades now.

So…for just under a year here on these forums, and very heavily these past few months, I’ve been doing Role Play stuff in a few threads around the boards here.

A lot of long, detailed posts that I’m pretty proud off.

Does that…count…as writing?

It’s a great outlet and it feels awesome to be getting back into it!

Thought some here may find this interesting. Certainly aimed more towards creative fiction, but @Psychichazard 's mark rosewater vid lead me to this on youtube. It’s MTG’s art director discussing their worldbuilding process as of last year. I really dig it.
