The writing is ruining the experience

Same, I think he is great in BL2. Some of his lines legit crack me up. I didn’t play much TPS so I can’t comment on that.

I can tell the writing has been stretched thin but what I love about this game are the things that I think they didn’t put much into. For instance on some enemies radiation causes a bad cough. Now, this isn’t saying much but get it on a simple male bandit and it’s hilarious! Among other things. I’ve seen what the OP is bringing up but some things make up for it to me.

The writing in the main game/plot and some of the sidequests is pretty cringe but the callouts from enemies and players is pretty great imo

Well the writing had to change and evolve with the times. Borderlands 1 has an entire DLC where being gay is a punchline for like, every joke…that kind of humor was not all that funny to begin with really. I’m not saying that a very good comedian couldn’t pull of a very funny gay joke that would make gay and straight people laugh…but not many can pull that off.

None of this is really an acceptable reason that the writing in BL3 is terrible though…Unless “changing for the times“ includes making sure your jokes are as forced and un-clever as possible.

How is it terrible? In what way is it better or worse vs. any other game?

There are endless threads on this forum on this subject plus a few examples in this very thread. I don’t say that to be rude, I just don’t feel like going too deep into the details because I’ve done it too many times in other threads.

I’m asking because there is not even a standard on which to even make a judgment on…

I do love the “Everybody’s looking at Claptrap!” line in 3 after everyone reacts to his weird “love ship” comment.

Seeing your tag reminded me: Zane’s voice acting/writing is freakin great. He was my first play through and really enjoyed it.

Overall I’ve enjoyed all the stories, BL, BL2, TPS, Lilith FFS dlc & BL3 & frankly can’t wait for BL4 (5 years?).

The difference between Borderlands 2 and 3 is that in BL2 they constantly managed to suprise me with their humor and story progression. in BL3 there’s nothing similar, the writing brings nothing unique into the game. The only moment i’ve really been surprised was when Hammerlock called my character a slut. But that’s not funny at all.

The story in bl3 is terrible. It’s a good thing the earlier games were so good and the gameplay in 3 is so good.

Killing off Maya and replacing her with the skidmark that is Ava? Who thought that would be a good idea? Tiny Tina was hilarious in bl2, she’s just stupid in bl3. Like people have been saying the humor in bl2 was natural and flowed. In bl3 it’s the opposite. It’s forced and cringe worthy.

Tiny Tina was quite polarizing when BL2 launched. Not as many complaints as Ava brings in (IMHO), but it was not all rainbows and unicorns then.

The writing of the base game is awfull (appart from some part). The DLC was awesome though.

There were at least 6 quests that had you fetch something that was hidden in a toilet. The porta-potty quest/rocket launcher, turd farmers, it’s poop gun skin. Very forced and juvenile humor. None of it made me laugh, just cringe.

That may be the case, but it’s all turds and puke now.

Let’s wait a couple of years at least - BL2 has the benefit of being out there for 7+ years and lots of dust have settled.

Who knows, perhaps in 5 years people will be singing praises for BL3 being the masterpiece of narrative and character development, once all DLCs are out and what not.

Having said that, I enjoy skipping cutscenes a lot, and do my best not to pay attention to Calypso twins and their constant yammering.

I’m 54 and the Coffee quest had me in stitches as a caffeine addict myself I could relate. Most of the humour in B3 I find funny and I actually had to pause gaming during the run through the Family Jewel “Navigated bitches”

Only quest I found tedious was the game related one on Nekrofetayo (sp) but that’s just me.

I’m Guessing all the girl power/agenda will date this game very badly. same with all the movies and tv coming out lately.

You need to wait to see if Ava is one of the worst characters ever written?
