Flame Flare isn’t good on its own, but it pairs great with RR + Numbed Nerves. You barely notice the DoT. Also I have enough burn damage with my build to consistently burn down loaders pretty easily. Only trouble I ever have are with super badasses, but that’s why I dual spec into Mania.

I had actually hoped to not use FtB, since this would be Hellborn (as the topic of the thread implies) with Mania.
That just seems so counterintuitive to me. The logic seems to be: Invest 5 points into a skill which boosts melee and damages yourself, and then avoid melee so as not to damage yourself.
Since throwing the axe apparently does approx 60% of melee damage, couldn’t you just do 100% instead but then not use StV – and save yourself 5 points to boot?
I realize you are the masters and I am the newb, but I really do want to understand this. I had hoped that BXR would be sufficient, should EtR and StW also be maxed, to get a kill. If so, but only if mods and relics are equipped, then that still seems like an option. But if only if StV is also maxed – then ouch, I wonder if Bloodlust and Bloodsplosion isn’t a more tantalizing option?
Firstly, I am by no means a Krieg master. I he’s my second or third most played, but I’m definitely not as much of an authority as any of the other posters here.
Second, I don’t know if anybody actually uses StV without the COM boost. At least from what I 've read, the very general consensus seems to be to not take the skill unless you can fill it to 10/5 since 500% damage is a better proposition than 250% for the same self harm chance. And at least in Mania+Bloodlust builds, people take buzzaxe bombadier for the extra explosive boost, and that u helps close the gap. I’m not too positive with how it works in Mania+hellborn setups though.
There is also the fact that those 5 points can’t really go anywhere else. FtR is useless with RtB, TotK is also fairly counterproductive to RtB, so what else can you do with those points to progress down the tree? There isn’t really any other skill that can give you as much as StV, at least if you’re going melee.

By boosting StV that high, won’t it also then be so high that the self-inflicted damage would also be dangerous?!?
And as regards the other 5 points, could you perhaps take a peek at the build that I would have favored (posted by me above) and let me know what you think?

If you want to focus on melee than I would go with either a legendary sickle if you can get one or a blue scream sickle with +6 StV and +5 empty the rage. In regards to the self damage from StV either get a rough rider or get damage reduction from numbed nerves. You could also were a adaptive shield from the increased health and elemental resist (which should be fire as long as your on fire).
I know. I was answering your question as to why people threw their axes. I’ll also throw mine when my health is low while rampaging and I don’t think I’ll get a kill. That way I can rampage again after the previous one is over.
Not if you want to play in the OP levels. Non-StV builds are perfectly viable until around OP 4. After that you really need that 500% damage boost if you want to kill things while rampaging.
Yep. If you’re going to hit yourself in the head, you might as well make it worth your while.
Not with a Rough Rider and a Blood of the Ancients. There’s also Taste of Blood which helps greatly. And Numbed Nerves if you’re going with Hellborn.
Most of the Hellborn skills are either only active or get a boost if you’re on fire, so having an adaptive isn’t a good idea, nor is having an inflammable shield.

No problem. Just remember Hellborn is all about setting yourself and your enemies on fire. So if you can’t do both, you’re not playing it to its full potential.
Hellborn maina did get me though op1 and 2 with little problem, but i am being a scrub lord and using a fotfh ATM planning on picking up a rr if I ever feel like doing the dlc again.
Nothing wrong with the Hawk, but it won’t protect you from StV hits.
Yeah I’ll get a RR when ever I hit like op4 or 5 also I need a food weapon for fire based enemy’s like scorch any suggestions. Preferably an easy farm so no twister.
They usually use Moxxi stuff with a B/H build.

Hellborn/bloodlust is fun it just tears though ammo and bad guys alike. Everything’s on fire and exploding what more could u want.

It’s interesting then that Krieg seems to be the only character that does not immediately benefit from his only inherent skill (BXR) without everything melee-related in Mania maxed in OP levels (I mean, if you cannot kill anything while rampaging). I mean compared to, say, gunzerking or tossing out a turret or so.

Remember, RtB gives an additional 50% damage reduction. When you activate RtB and have 100 stacks of bloodlust with ToB specced with your RR, that’s 120% damage reduction.
If you’re using a hellborn/bloodlust spec, then you don’t have RtB and the 50% damage reduction that comes with it. That might be why you feel less safe.

I believe it’s only burn damage, but @xmngr should know more.
It’s a bit redundant with Burn, Baby, Burn, and it only applies to DoT chance, not damage.

There is no cap, but you cannot be completely immune to damage. I read awhile back the max damage reduction is like 69% or so. Remember there’s a difference between Damage Resistance (which is what your shield and skills give you) and actual damage reduction, which is the amount of damage that is subtracted by the incoming damage.
