TheFunfighter's horrible abominations (aka: art) [current # : 12]

Nope. Not on deviantart yet. You can add them, but mention my name. And keep my mark! Best visible on the first Orendi pictures. I hid it in a Branch on the Marquis/Hoodini pic and in the fur on the marmot’s arm. We can discuss this out this evening via pm, when I’m back from work ^^
EDIT: I’ll make myself an account. Found your pendant and will try to figure out how to add to a group.

Oh man! I’ve not been back to the forums enough! These are awesome @thefunfighter!

Orendi might…she just might…be my favorite of the 25 Characters. That sometimes changes day to day, but she’s a memorable one.

Of course, there’s XXXXXXX. Now THAT character…geesh. That’s my current go-to in internal playtests.

You know a game is gonna be good, when the devs are excited to play their own characters. Means they don’t just do patchwork kits to get 25 characters done ^^

I upload everything in the deviantart group as well.

You still have some questions from before your vacation to answer, if you remember
Even if it’s just a “Sry, turned out i can only talk about/tease 》thing《”. Please don’t forget them.

I haven’t forgot yet! Just really busy. Got back from vacation, had some ridiculous internal deadlines, then went to PAX. It may still take me a week or two to get to some of the answers (like stats) but I haven’t forgotten the requests.

Thanks for keeping me honest!

I’ll let you figure that out. UGH.

Well. I’m a patient person. I just dislike to hear nothing at all.
But I knew about PAX, so I decided to only give you a small bump, since you already found the time to check in here.

One thing that I’m wondering for quite some time now, and that you could answer right here with the correct formulation of the question:
Once we get our hands on the game; If we suggest changes, how likely is it that they might be implemented (or at least tested)?
“changes” defined as number tweaks, small alterations to gameplay, or even completely new mechanics

EDIT: I’ll take this question into the"Ask the devs" thread.

Does that mean you’re “jelly”, or do you insinuate that I’m being some slimer? Or maybe a third meaning?
Can’t really figure it out.

Extremely jelly at anyone who went to Pax Prime.

Stupid Seattle location.

I wasn’t at PAX lol ^^
I don’t have the kind of money, to randomly travel to the USA. Also I literally only need 20 minutes with the tram to get to Gamescom, so why double down?
How did your conclusions get you there? XD
Was a bit confused, because I couldn’t really link a reason.

I can’t say guaranteed, but extremely extremely likely. This is a big, complex game. We’re working hard to get it as close to balanced as we can make it. We are no where near arrogant enough to believe we’ll have it completely right at launch.

My approach to balance has always been thusly:

  1. Start with PHILOSOPHY - Have a systemic design that designs with ranges and patterns that gets close. You can then adapt the philosophy at a root level and correct big problems. This plays mostly in when we do character creation or archetype creation.

  2. Playtest the heck out of the game internally. Some balance is only discovered (or most quickly discovered) subjectively, through playtest by competitive skilled players. We play several rounds a day at GBX, and have for most of our development.

  3. Prepare our Backend - (yes, haha…insert joke here) A lot of balance (especially outliers when the game is played at scale) can be determined through tracking stats and watching core information on regular intervals. We’ve been building that system internally, and are in the stages now where we’re trying to identify the right questions to ask and the right reports to run regularly. We’ve been doing some of that since Borderlands 2 and have improved those processes a lot for Battleborn.

  4. Work with the community. This isn’t last because it’s least important; it’s just the last part we phase in because beta happens so close to launch. This answers your question, @TheFunfighter. Yes, we plan on watching community feedback, hearing your issues, and testing and/or making changes based on them. Note: This does not mean we will always make a change when you point out something you’d like to see different. Our goal is to listen, though, and hopefully respond in a way that is best for the game.

I am ashamed that i didn’t post in here earlier, while I’ve seen your work already.

Anyway, really great work. So yeah, I approve.

Didn’t saw your last one. Quite good, i like the pose and idea.
The only problem being she looks quite taller than she does (Probably because her head should be bigger; weirdly enough, you made it too well proportionate to her torso, hah) Also, i think her entire body is black, not just her arms and legs. Or at least it looks like it.

I made it with the intention to make her taller, so she seems more mature ^^

Also take a look at this:

There are white spots on her arm. You might think that she wears some sort of glove. Or as I suspect from her nails pointing through:
She painted herself. You might’ve notice that her face is white. So I started looking for the transition, and just decided to set it at her extremities, after concluding paint as her way to change color.

True, but from this:

You can see that her torso is black, or at least partially.
Also, personally, i think it’s her skin turning black, because of her using Dark magic or something. (A bit like Nercomancers who slowly turn into undead as they use their magic) Maybe we’ll find out in-game.

And as for making her look more mature: Well it work then, hah.

Considering she has 4 arms, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Where do you see black torso? She’s completely covered up, aside from face arms and legs. Although your explanation would make sense as well. Still doesn’t change the fact that only parts of her body are covered, and we got close to no knowledge where that line is.

Look at the area around her shoulders on the BB page, it gives some indication. Doesn’t mean that it is growing, but you gett the idea.

You can see a bit of her torso where her shoulders are, though, not that much. And since her legs are black too, i’m expecting her whole body to be black.

Welp. I took the spots on her shoulder as a sign of “fading out”. Guess everyone has to do what he believes. I could counter though, that the picture i provided gives a slightly deeper look down her neck. And there it’s white. Hard to say.

I’ll gladly continue the discussion about this, as I’m interested in accurate reference material. But my drawing in question was rather influenced by artistic viewpoints on that matter

Turned well anyway, hah.

Also, talking about drawing with not much references, i sort of had the same problem with Benedict. I did draw him before Gamescom, so i had like… well… barely any references. So, since it wasn’t supposed to be an artistic viewpoints for me, i had to make more speculations than a trader before Christmas.
