Man, some of the character models…they’d have to pull the camera way back (and up, no doubt) to be able to see past them.
I don’t know. I’ve watched a bunch of video, but won’t be able to play myself until the PC beta starts. I’ve been surprised I haven’t had any problems with motion sickness watching others, but it’s possible that will change when playing myself. I’m sure hoping not (did fine in BL 1/2 most of the time).

On PC there should be a FOV slider, so that should help out.
Kinda hoping the console version will gett it, but doubt it.

There no excuse for not having third person. Monday Night Combat had it. Worked fine for that game. Get over yourselves and make it a feature. If it screws up the balance then pull it back.

I believe people were stating their reasoning as to why 3rd person shouldn’t be added, not making excuses. And this isn’t Monday Night Combat.

This is a mainly a competitive multiplayer game. It’s not a MOBA, traditional FPS shooter, Overwatch, Paragon, etc. This is Battleborn, a mix of all of those.
The developers decided to add a twist on it, and instead of watching your character do battle. You are your character doing battle. Melee characters are completely fine, and why is this? Because in first person I can’t see Phoebe’s blue ring around me telling me she’s going to be on me in the next few seconds. First person actually helps melee because characters like Marquis, Thorn, or Toby would never be able to be killed. They would have constant surveillance of their surroundings. And then comes the “option” part. Have you ever played a game in which it gave you the choice between 1st and 3rd person? Do you even have to wonder what PVP players chose? Clearly 3rd person is superior in every way when in PVP combat. This is a first person game for a reason folks, it’s what gives the assassins an actual shot during battle. It’s what keeps long range users in check.
I don’t care if you want to play in 3rd person when offline in story mode. But adding third person to multiplayer creates an entirely new meta

Yes, please. It is dizzying trying to keep up with enemy players and too easy to lose them when playing a melee character. Feel like melee is at a HUGE disadvantage atm.

No.
First person is fine. I have played a lot of melee during Beta and I have seen melees wreck the opposing team time and time again. If you can not keep up with all the things around you -> get better …
You realize that there´s actually melee critical hits? … they would be much harder to hit in third person. Quickly checking the minimap if you lose some characters out of sight in melee fights can help too btw.

Battlefront has an amazing feature that I wish Borderlands used which is being able to switch between First Person and Third Person. We understand the developers are not going to make major changes to the game right before release however you should consider adding the option later on. Even if it were only available for Single-player/Co-op that would be a start.

First person view for melee characters don’t bug me as much. I am the type of guy who sticks with the fp view in Morrowind.
The one character where first person view seemed weird was Kelvin, but I was getting use to that after playing him for a couple of hours.
This game looks so awesome! Unfortunately First-Person perspective makes me violently ill within a matter of minutes. Stupid cybersickness! Any chance of a third-person mode for those of us whose bodies simply won’t tolerate first person camera work without vomiting all over our keyboards?
I don’t mind the first person concept but it gives a decidedly unfair advantage to ranged champions. The current problem on the competitive front is that it is to easy to lose a target that moves around in any competent manner while playing as any melee champion, especially ones such as Daende with extremely small hitboxes.
The concept worked well in borderlands because there wasn’t the movement of another player, but for a game that is centered around player vs player combat having no option to go into 3rd person removes any ability to remain aware of your surroundings in a way that feels competitive.
Champions such as Phoebe and Rath are able to deal with the limited field of view because they are able to hit people outside of that field, The only current way to play Deande requires you take the juggle talent at level 3 because without it it becomes near impossible to remain in contact with a competent player.
This is coming from someone who plays at a fairly high level and mains Deande (who I am fine with her faults) The reality is that a 3rd person camera would allow the game to be far more competitive, and as an option wouldn’t be required to use.
Shouldn’t be hard to implement either since their is already a chase camera function as seen in the spectate mode. Utilize this camera and add in the option to adjust the draw distance, and you would have a patch that would add a significant number of players.

I was with you until the comment of pulling it back. No developer ever has had success by giving the community something and then yanking it away because if changed the Meta. Thats one of the fastest ways to burn a game to the ground.
If the change loses players, changing it back won’t make those players return it will just cause the loss of another set of players.

I would say Third person as an option is never bad, personally I would like all the running and jumping to be third person and all the shooting to be first person. Often in Borderlands I would strafe off a cliff and die because I cannot see behind my character. Or miss a foot hold because I cant see where my feet are landing.
Aesthetically… it would be nice to see the characters do their thing. I have used the third person mods for Borderlands 2 and Pre sqeuel and enjoyed them a darn lot. And if a modder can incorporate it into the games flawlessly, it wouldn’t be very hard for the devs to do it as a play option similar to using crosshairs or ironsights…
Super necro thread.
I find it funny that the OP though said OW was going to have 3rd person and it doesn’t haha.
