Which other TPS mobalikes? Smite? Paragon? Gigantic? Battleborn has so many other unique characteristics (fast pace, art style, helix system, different map types, etc etc) that set it apart from those games, that simply changing the viewpoint will definitely NOT cause it to lose its uniqueness.
I am strictly FPS. This is why Battleborn got my money while the others will not.
And how, exactly, would adding the option for a 3rd person perspective ruin that for you? You can still play in 1st person mode if you prefer that âŚ
MWO did that and all off a sudden people could look around corners without exposing themselves and have advance warnings of incoming sneak attacks from behind. Same is true for Firefall and GTA 5. GTA 5 is the game where FPS is severely punished in competition against TPS. But it never ever gets any cooler than point your gun throught the rear window of your car while you drive blindly at highspeed over the motorway or circle another car while aiming through the sidewindows. Oh and TPS gave you 360° shooting in cars while in FPS your cars metal parts blocked YOUR fire.
FPS and TPS donât mix. FPS is more limiting but also much more rewarding.
It really all depends on how the camera works. If itâs too far away (as I vaguely recall GTA being), then yeah they have a significant advantage. I confess I never tried the FPS mode in Firefall because I prefer TPS for stylistic purposes, but I never saw anyone in chat complaining about it. In any case, it sounds like those particular games (especially the GTA car thing) didnât do it properly. But it doesnât have to be that way. If the camera is positioned properly and has good collision, you wonât have much advance notice (if any) of âsneakâ attacks, and you wonât be able to look around corners without exposing yourself. Also, in 3rd person, you have the disadvantage of your character model taking up significant real estate.
There are positives and negatives to both. I disagree that FPS is âmore rewarding.â I get no enjoyment from watching an arm and gun floating in front of me. I get much more enjoyment from seeing my character jumping around. I see no reason to restrict people to one playstyle when two can be available.
