Guys, guys, guys!

If you play as Boldur, the game becomes a lot more “Bear-able”!

Hahahahaha!

Yeah, I went there.

I play as boldur so I can laugh drunkenly with him!

To be fair, I did this for a few other currently popular games and found the same types of threads. These are things we all have to hunt down and fix for any online game.

For you @0anesthetic4u, what platform are you on? What time were you playing? Which region of the West Coast were you in? Feel free to PM me here if you don’t want to release those generalities in this thread.

@Everyone, you’d be surprised how helpful this kind of detailed information can be when trying to troubleshoot an issue. Simply stating something is “broken” or “bad” without being specific actually makes it a lot harder for developers to not only replicate what you are seeing but to also find out what the actual problem is. The more detail you can provide about your setup/location when reporting an issue, the more likely someone will be able to do something about it… unless its tied to Aussie players, then you are mostly out of luck :stuck_out_tongue:

(Truthfully I think the Aussie red bar thing is just that a lot of games with Aussies in them are being hosted overseas causing an unavoidable bad connection. I never have connection issues when I play private solo matches).

Thank you for addressing this gentleman from the Western US, would you also be able to finally address those in Australia who have been posting many of these same issues since launch, as seen from the enormous thread on the issue?

The major problem here is too few players in your region, as Lowlines said. To find games, the servers are matching you with other parts of the world, choosing to prefer matching to a game with red bars rather than no game at all. We’ve discussed the possibility of letting you absolutely region-lock, and wait for a game where you could have a good connection, but based on current player trends, our data indicates that most players would find those waits too long to stay interested.

It’s a tough call.

Technically, I don’t believe that there’s much more we can do to improve your connection. The main solution is more players. Hopefully, there will be some things landing soon that will help with that. We’ve certainly worked hard to improve the game and make it appealing for as many players as possible.

I know of a number of Aussie players (and other regional groups) who have formed communities through Discord or these forums to try and band up for private matches and the like. For now, that’s your best bet to mitigate the “red bar” problem.

I love the Aussie fans. We all do at Gearbox. I hate giving you guys bad news, because you are so engaged and supportive. With this issue, though, there’s not a magic server switch. It’s back to marketing, attraction, and sales and that is frustratingly out of my hands.

Thank you for your complete and honest answer on this issue. There was a six hundred post thread on this issue with no response from the GBX team, which was one source of this frustration, so it’s nice to hear an official answer on this point.

@ChemicalConundrum Weren’t you like one of our “honorary Aussies” from another country (the US?). (it’s been so long since I played with everyone, my memory is a bit foggy)

Thank you for this response.

All I’ve ever wanted was confirmation that this was indeed the case (as we suspected) and honest feedback about the issue.

I personally would have preferred longer waits for better servers as opposed to being forced onto unplayable servers. I’ve quit the game because the connections are simply untenable 95% of the time. If I had the option to region lock to Asia Pacific it’s likely I would dip in for a look from time to time.

I understand that it’s a catch 22 and more players is the only realistic solution. That ship has likely sailed at this point but at least now there’s some clarity.

Thank you for putting some context around this, I do not for a second think that this wouldn’t have been solved if it was within your power to do so.

Should have put in my post, but I’m based in China and so play with mostly Australians as we are in roughly the same TZ and speak the same language so I felt obliged to seek some clarity on this issue on their behalf especially after a long thread on this topic involving many of my online friends. I’m glad to hear an official answer on this point. I consistently red bar as well but the internet in my building is iffy and I’m not sure I can completely chalk up my red bars to GBX as opposed to my Aussie friends who have proper connections and still red bar.

Looks like a server issue in the recent day as there is an unusually large dip in the player numbers giving quite a lower number of players at least on PC. Borderlands and the Borderlands: The Pre Sequel remain unaffected.

Yeah… Battleborn is the lower line (in blue). The Winter update was really luke warm in attracting back players and those who came back did not stay that long (at least on PC).

Except for that Mellka-crazy one. She’s nothing but trouble.

Seriously though, thanks for finally breaking the silence.

As far as regions and populations go, I concur with @Ginger_greninja. On PS4, there still seem to be quite a few Japanese/Chinese/Korean/Singaporean players. An option to hard region lock to Asia would make a lot of Australians happy.

I’d also much prefer to play on US West East than US East, which region locking would also presumably allow.

Is it posible to make this?

Server looks in Australia> if not enough players also look in china>then korea>japan and set a limit of expansion? Like rings of influenc.

It would be usefull i guess.

That would be preferable to being placed on some of the distant European and American servers.

It’s more frustrating to be put into a lobby in which you cannot play the game than to wait longer for one that you can.

Considering how many left because of constant foreign servers, it’s worth asking yourself, how many players might come back if region locking was enabled?

I don’t mind saying this so everyone can hear.

I’m on the West Coast US, Playing on PS4. I’ve tried to connect to West Coast Servers several times, but they actually seem to be the one’s I have the largest connection problems with. I always lose connection within minutes.

Here’s an interesting little bit of information.

I’ve only ever been prompted Once to rejoin a game I was already playing in solo after being kicked.

The only cause I can think of is that either it’s a fluke and the lobby stayed open when it shouldn’t have, or it’s supposed to stay open like that every time, and instead I’m getting booted from lobbies because they constantly shut down entirely.

I’m in Montana, which could be semi close to where you are depending on where you are on the coast, but I very rarely get forcibly kicked from the servers. I tend to be yellow bar most matches, but it feels like green bar most of the time tbh. I don’t know anything about servers or anything like that, but I’m hoping this might maybe help a little. Could be wildly different if you were in the southern part of California, but if you were somewhere in Washington; I would say we could be fairly close, and I wouldn’t know how your connection could be so radically different.

This is an idea that was thrown around by the community several months ago but few agreed initially, as time progressed however and the problem seemed to worsen due to less players (more likely to get connected to a foreign server) this idea started becoming accepted as a potential fix, but we never heard anything despite several pings and pleas.

I don’t know any more than you do if this would solve anything, but much of the frustration felt by the Aussie players was due to constant unplayable matches (I left for other reasons, some of us did, but red bar was always a major factor for us) and we just wanted something, anything, so we could thoroughly enjoy this game that we all loved and bonded over. I would have much preferred hearing “Sorry, we can’t fix this because _” than nothing at all.

It’s ironic, isn’t it? Being kept in a metaphorical state of perpetual darkness, all things considered? I take some solace in that.

So let me get this straight…You’ve decided after all the complaints and pleas by Aussies to fix the server situation which a multitude of people denounced as making the game unplayable, calls that were made early in Battleborn’s release so as to not affect a small population from dwindling too much that were ultimately ignored and the resultant demise occurring, to just allow the status quo to remain instead of implementing a server browser feature with a simple message that would warn players of the expected long wait time for a regional game and an option to connect with an overseas server if they would prefer?

Leave the game unplayable for a region rather than even attempt some kind of fix?

Dude, with all due respect, I don’t see it. Your actions speak a whole lot different than your words. We waited for months in that thread for a response and received nothing. It took a reply in this unrelated thread to get any info. And now we’re told to expect no love at all. This game should be sold with a warning on the shelves in Australia or pulled entirely.

Mate, this is so weak.
