Thoughts on Shayne and Aurox

first off, design wise this is one of badassiest characters there is, and that’s saying a lot considering how awesome all of the characters look. but tucking a little emo chick into the rib cage of a stone Djinn is about as cool as it gets. but after playing her for a while and getting direct feedback from others while they were playing her, for the most part, her abilities feel a bit meh

Shayne’s boomerang - feels a bit like a tacked on addition to give her a bit of range. Honestly I’d prefer she chuck one of Aurox’s ribs. on top of that it has no synergy with the rest of her abilities and offers very little to the character. If you have the shield you can add some melee damage to the boomerang, but that’s about it. what if the boomerang/rib cage could mark targets for Fetch? or something along those lines.

Fetch - I actually like this ability, it allows you to deal with a single opponent 1 on 1, face to face which is where they excel, the issue for me is that it’s tough to aim in some situations, maybe highlighting the enemy she is targeting. it would also be interesting if instead of just flying towards the target he crawled across the ground and dealt damage in his path. This would increase it’s effectiveness against large groups of mobs.

stealth strike -I don’t know why but this ability felt like garbage to me, I know it’s so you can close the gap between you and enemies and get a shock and awe strike right off the bat, but most people I’ve talked to about it seem to use it as a quick get away when shayne’s health is low. what if instead Aurox explodes around her,knocking enemies back, and then she goes stealth. he can then reform around her. or possibly she could go stealth and leave Aurox behind to “draw fire” then he explode dealing a portion of the damage taken to the enemies and reforms around her.

Tag team - this never really felt like a “tag team” to me. what if instead of just tossing Aurox in a place you actually “tag in” Aurox who then unleashes his full Djinn power, then you control him for a short time as he rampages the battle field knocking enemies around, causing chaos, killing things. Think bull in a china shop. or we could d a true tag team style. Shayne absorbs Aurox’s Djinnness (his Djinn es se qua, if you will) and while Aurox drops right where the ability was activated, destroying anything that comes near him Shayne is free to move around and smack the crap out of things.

that’s just my 2 cents. What do you guys think, too OP? do they really need some retooling? or are they fine like they are.

Fetch definitely needs highlighting, or rather, the whole game does. I see no reason why clearly outlining the selected enemy would not be implemented, since it would greatly help for more precise aiming (I’m trying to fetch the enemy player, but get the minion instead…).


Giving Stealth Strike a throwback effect would be awesome for countering Rath. I’m all for this idea.


Tag Team is really underwhelming. I don’t really know what is happening or how much damage I’m dealing to enemies, because Aurox’s spinning glow covers everything in the area. Am I more vulnerable when Aurox is away from me? Am I faster? I can never tell. We need numbers!

the questions about vulnerability when aurox is tag teaming are the same ones i had. Also, yes this ability is boring as hell, no one is going to stand in it for 5 seconds. Rename it djinn toss or something.

I really wouldn’t mind losing the boomerang for anything else. I rarely use it as it is, Maybe a fury attack where you hit faster but walk slower would work well in place.

Things about Shayne and Aurox in beta. Before her nerd from the patch that came through she had amazing attack damage. Now you have to supplement that attack damage nerf with gear.
Boomerang: if you go down the helix and get her skills for making boomerang better ie. Hitting multiple targets and 20% damage boost, plus getting her legendary gear mod, her boomerang is really nice. Usually after melee and the enemy runs away, boomerang will finish off 100% of the time.
Fetch: stun. Just stun. And cool down as well. This makes her even more fun since your enemy just gets to sit there while you unlock melee attacks to their face.
Stealth Strike: really amazing engage and possible for chasing somebody down. Get first helix upgrade of d.o.t. and second of slow and you’ll be golden. Also great for getting behind enemy lines and destroying their build ables that will annoy you later in fights.
Tag team: feels lack luster unless there’s and team fight and the enemy team is all in one area and sitting there. Until you get to lvl 10 and get Aurox beckons which brings all enemies close to the ultimate right into Aurox and the get slowed and take massive damage. Boomerang galore into the ultimate withe your multiple hitting boomerangs and gg.
Passive fleet foot: basically whenever you lose your shields (Aurox is your shield). This also means when you tag team. Your ultimate makes you lose Aurox and you have no shield, so passive kicks in. Getting your lvl 5 helix of increased fleet foot is nice for this.
All in all. Love Shayne and Aurox. During the 2 days I had got to command 47 and got master of Shayne and Aurox with more than a 2.0 k/d overall. Will be playing a whole lot more of her once the game releases.

Could you share what the mod does? Sounds interesting.

There might be different ones, but the one I got was called the “Smack attack” slinger.
+37.29 shield recharge per second
+4.97% attack speed
Shayne and Aurox only: melee strikes add 20% of their damage to the next boomerang hit on the target.
Problem though is its 1800 activation cost, but it’s really worth it.
The gear I put on gave her an entire buff of +14.01% attack damage. +about 10% attack speed( counting the legendary mod in. +5.76 health regeneration and the shield recharge from legendary.
I don’t remember when I got it but I got it off a pack when I ranked up Shayne and Aurox. You get it off a rank up at around like rank 8 or so I believe is when I got it.

Also, another weird thing during the beta, was after I got Shayne and Aurox mastery I never got to play much after that cause my teammates would snipe her from under me in the character select screen due to having all the characters unlocked and having to move down so far just to get to her to select. Lol. You would think seeing somebody with a mastery of the character that you would let them play that character even if they have no more progression needed on that character.

I loved Shayne & Aurox, and would personally hate to lose the boomerang. I didn’t think boomerang was worth much until I realized you could hold down the button and spam it repeatedly - with added boomerang damage and ricochet helix options it gave me a great mid- and long-range attack instead of always relying on fetch and melee. I’m primarily a PVE player so I can’t speak for PVP, but once I had her figured out I almost always had more kills and assists than anyone on my team. I thought all her skills and attacks worked awesome in tandem with each other and would hate to see anything changed.

This duo was hands down my favorite character(s) during the beta. The skills have great impact and can be used in very different ways depending on how you spec, the melee is strong and the benefit of having a secondary ranged attack for runners or harassing enemies in lane makes gameplay a lot more active in comparison to all-melee characters. Her ulti is a bit tricky but does its job for taking down Galileia or Atticus trying to face-tank you, or to clear out enemy creep waves in the blink of an eye.

But above all their script and voice acting is superb and makes for some very entertaining gameplay!

First off I want to say I feel like they got their inspiration for this character from; Magi (Djinn) & Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (stand)…if so, AWESOME!

Boomerang - little too much damage for a Bruiser imo, I would expect bruiser to be front lines, it’s also a very spammy ability as it bounces everywhere

Stealth strike was fine if used to get behind someone unsuspecting and starting lighting them up from the back

Tag Team…I’ll have to read the tooltip when the game comes out. I just used to it for AOE clearing or on top of sentrys.

She & he? A little too tanky for a bruiser, IMO

I would say the tankyness is justified with their hitbox being about three times the mass of Dendae, whom l think fills a similiar role.

Just to but this out their. Shayne is a girl. I’ve always seen she/he? In a lot of the forum. She’s a punk rocker girl who enslaved star poop lol.

My only problem with the boomerang is the strangely shaped crosshair. I keep aiming too low and off to one side because the oblong shape it has.

I love the Boomerangs, they sometimes outDPS her Melee and can snipe fleeing enemies.

I just hate the crosshairs like you said.

I think people say she/he because Shayne is a she but Aurox is typically refereed to as he.

so they are saying he and she instead of them? I presume.

I know, but specifically Shayne. A lot of people have confused her for a boy lol.
