Tier skins = money?

Source? There are articles all over the place talking about the possibility of microtransactions going back at least as far as November.

I see this game as a moba, and monad tend to build on itself overtime, making the price ā€œmoreā€ than $60. I think this game’s gonna be around for a while, and as long as they keep adding to it, I don’t see a problem with them making small things be In micropayments.

All characters are free. (You pay for characters in LOL, either with money or time. You do have to unlock characters, but it’s quite a bit different than playing for days for a single character. For DOTA, money’s a non-issue, because TF2 pays the bills.

More free maps. (LOL has 2 maps, when I last checked, with no more planned, afaik.)

Has a PVE Mode, that’s more than just vs. AI.

I think that justifies $60 already, with its already great gameplay, and mostly balanced characters. Cheers for ass-kissing for a week old game!

Huh, thought hey had a hand in that.

@jjand302
I hope you are right, but hope is hard to come by with games now-a-days.

@salsacookies1
Hopefully this game will be around for a while, I mean Monday Night Combat got canned yet it was an awesome game I had fun with.

Character are free, but you still gotta unlock them, kind of like Smash Bros. before the DLC, in LoL the characters can be considered free because you don’t have to spend real money to unlock anyone. Yeah you gotta work harder to get the characters, but there are a LOT more to get. Well, DOTA also has a cash shop and I’m quite sure more people play DOTA then TF2.

Aye, but LoL is a F2P game that is very e-sport-ish. Since it’s a F2P though, they can add in maps at any time without us having to pay for it.

Kudos for that, wish it was an actual campaign though, it feels like Left 4 Deads 2 campaign. It ā€œlinksā€ together in one form or another, but not very well.

I would disagree, unless it is a FACT from GBX that they will do free content updates like (sigh) Overwatch or TF2.

It is a fact. The only paid dlc currently announced is the dlc packs which is a campaign mission with extra skins and taunts bundled together. See the link above to their dlc plans announcement

@jjand302 I must be blind, because I don’t see anything in that article that says there won’t be microtransactions. The word doesn’t even appear in the article.

Y’know. The more I read their dlc plans the more I do think it will be microtransactions. Damn.
A: it’s after the paid dlc header
B: ā€œWe know that some gamers really love to express themselves through cosmetic customizations that make their heroes stand-out. That’s why Battleborn has a huge variety of skins and taunts that come with the game at launch, and we will continue to release even more cosmetic customizations post-launch – some of which we will sell in-game. This kind of optional cosmetic content has absolutely no effect on the gameplay, and helps us keep all the additional heroes, modes, maps, and other features that extend the core gameplay experience, free for everyone. We’re committed to making sure that you have the means to make your favorite heroes truly your own.ā€

That last part really suggests a real money income to support the free stuff

Oh damn. They removed it from the article. It originally said that gearbox reiterated multiple times that there will never be microtransactions. Well ā– ā– ā– ā– , sorry dude.

Precisely. I should have quoted that earlier. My bad.

Re:article. Huh, interesting. Explains why I was confused, though, lol.

My concern here is that people will get it into their heads that Gearbox ā€œpromisedā€ there would be no microtransactions. Pretty sure I’ve seen multiple say that, but near as I can tell it never happened. The longer people continue to believe that, the worse the reaction will be if it becomes a thing.

For me, the 3/16 2k blog is confirmation, but IMO the dev team would do well to clear this up BEFORE it becomes a thing, so people have a chance to get used to the idea.

That actually makes me feel a LITTLE better. What would be amazing is if we had the option to pay for those cosmetics or have to do something crazy to earn it, kind of like unlocking all the armor pieces in Halo 3 (minus paying for it).

I play with cosmetics but idc if I have the best cosmetics. I like the cosmetics that appeal to me :stuck_out_tongue:

They may do like they did with the Borderlands 2 Head Hunter packs where you played a small mission (~3-4 hour) and got a head and sometimes a skin as a reward. They were only like $3 (or maybe 5, it’s been awhile) USD and I would definitely buy something like that.

Glad to hear~
Well everyone has their version of the ā€œbestā€ā€¦it’s just nobodies ā€œbestā€ is going to be a re-color though…

Borderlands had paid outfits. 1 euro each. You just wait for a sale and get them for 0.33 each…

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah, wasn’t a fan of that. I mean I liked some of the skins, but Borderlands isn’t a game where I’m going to shell out additional money for outside of DLC maps and missions.

Really? Paid skins in this game on top of a $60 price tag and DLC packs? FML. I don’t even know why I am still here…

I’m having a blast. If you aren’t, why are you here?

I don’t know it clearly isn’t for the good matches. Pub stomping people all day with a 2 or 3 stack isn’t fun. I keep hoping some kind of match making or ranked queue will show up at some point.

I think it’s ok because maps and characters are going to be free. They need to make money somehow, and rather than charging for the things that would normally be considered dlc, they sell the stuff that is purely aesthetic, as to not divide the player base or force people to pay. If skins cost money, but there are more free characters and maps, I’m calling that a big fat win.

I think, outside complaints about Galilea and sentry sniping, that seems to be the most-complained about thing in the community. I have to think they will do something about it, even if isn’t as quick as we might like. It’s easy to sit here and say that this was an obvious problem in the open beta and they should have done something by now, but I imagine it is more complicated than we think or they would have.
