Tips and tricks (Mechanics you may miss)

After seeing a lot of discussions about a lot of things I’d like to try my best to compile a bunch of information that is never mentioned, but is very important. All contribution is absolutely welcome, and I will do my best to keep this as cleanly organized as possible (but this isn’t really something I’m good at).

Anything with a (?) needs to be confirmed, and if you can help with that it would be great.

  • Skills that “Knock Back” will stun enemies if they are knocked into another enemy, or a piece of geometry.
  • Skills that “Knock Away” do not stun under any circumstances, and simply push enemies away.
  • ISIC’s rotating wards, with the helix option “You dropped those”, will even reflect skills, such as Miko’s spore ball.
  • The effect “Wound” stops all healing and regeneration effects.
  • Thorn’s curse effect applies the damage bonus to her own skills and attacks, not to your team’s.
  • Kleese’s energy rifts also restore shield to buildings.
  • You can jump while using Rath’s ult. (But we all know he should be able to fly, helicopter around.)
  • You can deactivate skills like Shayne’s invisibility and Kelvin’s sublimate by hitting the button again.
  • Mellka, Attikus, Deande, and El Dragon have alternative "Offhand melee"s while sprinting.
  • Miko can sprint while healing with right click.
  • Thorn can use her helix upgrade to her offhand melee that makes it propell you backwards to reach new heights that she could normally not reach.
  • All slows affect attack speed as well as movement speed.
  • You can hold both attack buttons as phoebe to continuously alternate between the two. Good for keeping on people, but it should be noted that each hit in phoebe’s left click combo does more than the previous.
  • Benedict’s rockets, including ones fired by skills, can be destroyed by projectiles, such as reyna’s plasma pulse.(?)
  • Miko’s healing beam, once attached to a target, can be bent around walls and other geometry if aimed correctly.
  • Montana’s Firestorm helix upgrade completely replaces the slow on hit effect with a damage over time effect.
  • Attikus’ ult does not require clicking to fire the attacks, and allows sprinting and jumping during it as well. However the attack does not work while you’re in the air.
  • Blocking with galilea’s sword provides 70% damage mitigation to the front.

  • Supply stations apply a heal over time buff to your character when you enter the area, which lingers after leaving.
  • Supply stations seem to heal for 32 HP/s. Upgrading the supply station causes the regeneration effect to also give you a 20% damage increase while active.
  • Buying a building or minion gives you a large exp bonus.
  • 500 shards can save your life. If someone is chasing you, run past an accelerator. If it’s down, it takes 500 shards to build it up to having the slow effect on enemies, just mash R on your way by.

  • Player kills are worth 2 points, while every person who assisted also grants 1 point to your team.

  • Bonecrusher thralls become available at the 2 minute mark. The middle thralls become available starting at the 5 minute mark.
  • Thralls become available again 2 minutes after the neutral thralls have been killed, or 1 minute after they’ve been summoned if they aren’t summoned immediately after being killed. Thralls will not respawn until they’ve been successfully summoned.

5.Story mode

  • Pressing and holding R will pick up all nearby powerups, credits, and such.
  • Playing with the game settings “Advanced” and “Hardcore” each increase the chance of higher rarity loot dropping, including the rate at which bosses drop legendaries.
  • If you run fast enough after wolf breaks down the door (Easiest as benedict because he can simply fly across the gap) you can trigger the removal of the flag for the swarmers spawning before the flag is set for them to start spawning infinitely where wolf would be. In simple speak, you do this and you can kill swarmers infinitely.
  • The ice blocks that fall during the Galactic Emperor fight are the things that summon frost golems. Shooting them before they hit the ground prevents a frost golem from spawning from it.
  • Shooting the slowing orbs H3NCHM4N shoots will destroy them, as well as the white orbs ISIC Magnus launches.
  • Conservator, Galactic Emperor, and Geoff all are heavily scripted bosses, and you cannot kill them faster than the game lets you. ISIC Magnus, however, is not scripted, and if you somehow break the game and make your DPS flow like the amazon river you can kill him in one cycle. Proof
Marquis can also do this solo with a well placed ult.
  • Also concerning ISIC Magnus, if you shoot the places where the power supplies? were on his legs after you break one, you will directly damage ISIC Magnus. Shooting the battery? that drops down after breaking enough power supplies is his critical spot.
  • The amount of power supplies that must be broken to get ISIC Magnus to reveal his critical spot depends on the amount of players. With 1 and 2 players you only have to break one, with the required breaks increasing by one for every player after that.
  • In the Void’s Edge story mission there’s a pair of optional treasure rooms. The first is in the courtyard near to where you activate Wolf, the second’s on the left of the new area after Wolf blasts through his first giant door. On any given run, one of these rooms will contain a trapezoid chest with gear in it and the other will be empty. Both doors require standing on pads to open: the first needs two people (One if playing alone) but the latter can be opened solo.

6.General Mechanics

  • Right click or middle mouse (your quick melee button) will cancel any skill in the middle of casting.
  • Pressing B will start a channeling ability that will send you back to base if you don’t take damage for the entire 4 seconds it takes to use. Going back to base this way, or walking back to base and touching one of the glowing spawn pads, will instantly refill your hp.
  • Your middle mouse melee (Also known as “Offhand melee”) knocks people away, which is its primary function.
  • Headshots are in the game, and apply to every character, even melee character. Skills that function very similar to a normal attack can also crit. (Such as Benedict’s Hawkeye rocket and Thorn’s Volley.)
  • Critical hit multiplier is 1.5x vs other players, and 3x vs minions and the like.
  • Critical hit numbers show up golden, and some characters have unique sounds upon scoring a critical hit.
  • Having a shield prevents critical hits entirely.
  • M3 Shepherd applies an overshield to all units near it, including players, every minute. Practically this will happen as soon as the M3 spawns, and then when it gets to the middle of the lane as well. (?)
  • Picking up shards gives 20% of that value to each of your teammates, while you get the full value.
  • You can simply walk over the small shard growths on the map to collect them, this will break them without you shooting or meleeing them.
  • There are 5 shard sizes. 25, 65, 155, 285, 585. There are three sizes for growing shards, and two sizes for the large shards. Attacking the large shards doesn’t give you any shards until you break a section. The first two sections of the smaller large shard are worth 65 each, with the last section being worth 155. The first two sections of the larger one are wroth 155 each, with the last section being worth 275 (Could be 285 though, now that I think about it, considering how normalized all the other numbers are.)
  • Gunbot minions drop 5 shards on death.
  • Large shards spawn every 2 minutes, Small shards respawn 30 seconds after breaking.
  • Invisibility can still be seen, it’s a shimmer like in Halo.
  • All visual effects such as a burn effect, or slow, still are appearant on an invisible unit. Infact just damaging them provides a brief white outline around them, allowing you and your team to keep track of them as long as you keep hitting them.
  • Eldrid character can have a shield if you equip a loot item that gives maximum shield.
  • Eldrid do have a natural shield cap, which only really comes into play on kelvin.
  • Items with -max shield generally do not hurt eldrid, however it will reduce the amount of shield a kelvin can put on himself, and how much overshield boldur gets from his dash. -Shield recharge time will not hinder any eldrid unless you have an item that also gives shield.
  • Items with -reload speed do not affect melee characters in any way.
  • Lifesteal counts as healing received and healing given. -Heals received and -heal power otherwise have no effect unless you have healing skills. Lifesteal is not affected by +/- Heals recieved/power.
  • Self healing effects are affected by both +heal power and +heals received, regeneration and supply stations are not affected by either of these.
  • Gear items that give effects “While shield is depleted” will not work on an eldrid character (Except kelvin) unless you also give the character a shield through loot items. Kelvin technically has a shield, and therefore it can be depleted.
  • Gear items that activate after surviving for 180 seconds do not respect your time alive previous to purchasing them. The timer starts from purchase.

  • Completing all lore challenges will award you with a character specific legendary.
  • You are given commander packs on 5 level intervals, which always include a skin, and can potentially also include a taunt. The taunts and skins given are not ones you can unlock with rank or lore. You are also given a “Legendary pack” upon reaching rank 100, which gives you many items and a guaranteed legendary.
  • Each commander rank requires 1,000 experience, while each character rank exp requirement goes up per rank.
  • When Queuing for a match the yellow bar to the side of people’s names indicates that they queued with each other.
  • This game, contrary to popular belief, is not just like overwatch.

Some things that I’d like to know, if anyone has this information…

Question Bounties

What is the exact heal rate on the supply station, and does upgrading it increase it?
Do you get a commander pack every 5 levels? And does anyone know what levels are which commander packs?
Can benedict’s rockets be destroyed by hitscan weapons? I’m fairly sure his boomsday one can, but I don’t know about other stuff.

If you can answer one of these questions, I’ll give you 10 points. If you have some other contribution or can confirm a tip that has a (?) by it, I’ll give you 5 points. For making this thread, I get a billion points. All of you must deal with this.

I don’t feel like copying over most of the information from this to my post, as it feels like just stealing…but all the information here is fantastic if you want extreme specifics about damage, health, and such. I will, however, borrow some of the simpler information from it.

End of nerdy information.

If you’re the competitive type, this game already has a competitive scene and weekly tournaments! This site right here, hosted by a fine group of gentlemen, is the “hub” of sorts for the tournaments, while clicking these gorgeous orange words will bring you to the Discord chat relating to it. If you’re interested in the competitive scene, even as a spectator, I urge you to join our community!

(If you wonder why some of this stuff is on here, even though it might be “Obvious”, I noticed some people asking questions about it, so I figured why not just include it, since if one person missed it, others might as well.)

I think I’ve seen this before, is this a re-post?

The beta thread is locked and obsolete. I asked for the other thread to be moved over, but it didn’t happen, so I reposted it here.

Besides, surely there’s more people with more information to contribute, especially with the game releasing and people doing testing.

Oh I understand, not complaining just felt a sense of deja vu lol.

No. I unlocked Shayne’s legendary during the beta and never completed her top right lore challenge. Unfortunately I have no proof of this, I did also unlock three other uniques (Galilea, Ambra, Deande) but theirs were the top right challenge. Perhaps Shayne’s is bugged or perhaps it can be different for all characters, more investigation needed.

I was told that character legendaries can actually drop normally, but I can’t confirm that either…
I got mine as ghalt when I got the top right I’m pretty sure. Other people have reported only doing the top right challenge for a character and getting it. It’s just weird, and yeah, more investigation needed.

Another great and somehow incredibly underrated(liked) topic.
Thanks for your contribution, Phoebe-pic user!

During the Sentinel fight, you can shoot the rocks, too. If you are fast enough. I’ve not seen this work with Thorn, only battleborn with bullet type weapons. Have not tried to melee yet.

  • Phoebe can fluidly weave together her primary and secondary attacks just by holding both attack buttons together; Just be warry of the dashes she does during her secondary, or don’t fight near a ledge. :stuck_out_tongue:
  • If you happen to fall from a ledge with Phoebe, quick reflexes with her TP will bring you back on safe ground. Since people don’t tend to wait and confirm you indeed died from the fall, it may be a cheap and easy way of loosing the heat in MP…

Addition: unlocking the upper right lore does not give legendary gear, did in the beta, not now.

this is CORRECT!

beta and ctt had only top right lore = legendary

I have received 2 legendaries from FULL lore challenges completed, Marquis and Miko (Oscar coming next). Most of my go-to characters have the top right lore challenge done and no legendary, it comes when you complete the full lore.

Sorry to bump an “old” post, but this was revived in the last couple days, and has a BUUUNCH of information.

The (?) part is incorrect. I did some playtesting to test this earlier today, I got a good Sprint speed item, but has a -Heal Power attribute to it, and I wanted to see if it would gimp Rath’s play at all. I was Lifestealing with a base Melee for 12 HP. I had a +10% Heal Power item and a +10% Healing Received item. With a base heal of 12 HP I should’ve seen at least a 1 HP increase with each item. I activated them one at a time for testing’s sake and each time my Lifesteal remained at 12 HP. I saved video, but have yet to upload it anywhere.

From what I can tell upgrading it does not increase the rate of health regained (need to do more testing to give precise amounts on that as well), but there seems to be a +Damage Reduction buff as long as the Healing buff is active.

I was supposed to be testing this while I was testing the other stuff I was working on, but I forgot. I am pretty sure they work just like Crystal Shard Clusters (two minutes after killing/summoning them).

I am still curious as to what minions exactly are considered minor vs major.

To this, you get the legendary from doing all the lore, you can look it up in “command-> career -> challenges-> characters -> which ever character you want” and they will have one challenge which will give you a legendary, this will be the complete all lore challenges

And I’m glad it was, I kind of stopped posting because of how hard this forum was getting flooded after launch, it felt like I couldn’t actually put threads like this up and have any real responses. I had just kinda given up.

Also this was put on reddit? It wasn’t me that did it. I’m not really concerned with someone “stealing” it, it’s just curious that someone would bother copying it over.

Appreciate the help guys, keep the information coming in and I’ll keep updating this.

It was either this or the work that someone was doing on Gear. Not sure which. Whoever “stole” it did credit the original source. That much I do know. Thanks for updating with my test results! I’ll try and get some more knocked out later tonight/tomorrow morning. Just got off work.

Playtesting for the evening complete.

Single Thrall spawns at 2 min. Double at 5 min.
Thralls will only respawn if they have been summoned. Once they have been summoned they will spawn 2 minutes after killing them or 1 minute after summoning them, whichever happens LAST.

Baby Shards spawn 30 secs after gathering.

Healing Received AND Heal Power affect self-heals (but not lifesteal as addressed earlier).

Neither Healing Received nor Power affects base Health Regen nor any buffs to your base Health Regen (think Kelvin Helix).

Healing Received does NOT affect healing received from Supply Station buff.

Supply station buff is closer to 32 HP/sec.

Supply station buff still needs more testing as far as what upgrades do. I really think Tier 2 gives a buff to attack/skill damage and Tier 3 gives a Damage Reduction bonus. I need a partner to do real testing. Let me know if you’d like to help (probably tomorrow sometime) (currently only own on PS4).

I want to run some tests in private matches as well, particularly on Thorn’s Curse. Add me on PSN Slif_One

Unfortunately I am on PC, so I cannot assist with either of your playtesting.

I will add any nice data you find though, and I appreciate your efforts.

I’m running out of questions at this point  I’ll knock out what I can with Slif later and let you know.

Oh, I don’t entirely understand your answer concerning thralls.

How does 1 minute after summoning them ever happen after the 2 minutes after killing them for that to proc the respawn?

If they die quickly, the 2 minutes still ends after the 1 minute after spawning them. If they die slowly, the same occurs. I might just be being stupid here, but I simply don’t understand.
