That’s pretty much what I assumed would be the case.
Is there any concrete confirmation that we won’t be getting a Wonderlands specific section? I like Discord and don’t mind Reddit for some things, but I do believe there is a great benefit to the long form discussions this forum enables that other social media just can’t, and I’d hate to see it go.
No but the lack of any information is kind of a confirmation… of sorts??
A Discord server’s usefulness depends so much upon the admins & structure and usually I don’t even bother to look there (so that’s on me). I agree about Reddit and it may even end up with a sub just for builds which would be great. I like a forum for discussion, help and troubleshooting and the GBX ones are well moderated.
Agree with this 1000%. There has been a ton of discovery done and knowledge shared about this franchise’s games over the years here on the forums. The format of the forums definitely supports free exchange of information and testing results in a friendly, cooperative environment. And I think that the friendly and sharing nature of the community is one of the hallmarks of the BL franchise.
I don’t know how much keeping these forums supported costs, but I cannot imagine it’s that much given that the only expense is the server/hardware cost. I would encourage GBX to consider continuing to support the forums if there really is any discussion about discontinuing support.
Yeah, this is the biggy for me.
The bulk of the theory crafting community seems to be on Discord, but you either need to be on the same server as the people testing to see how they got their results, or they need to go out of their way to save the entire process somewhere for others to see on other servers. With reddit, it’s just buried under pages and pages of google search results, and even groundbreaking testing will cease being relevant in a few days and go to the bottom of the page.
There is no other place where you can post a guide and have people discussing it for several months uninterrupted, and have that discussion be easily accessible to new people. I can understand that the forums have the lowest number of users of the social media GBX check, and it isn’t the same hub of activity for the community that it used to be. That being said, it is really one of the only formats that allow players on all platforms to maintain a discussion for more than a few days. It can’t be overstated how valuable that is.
Not having a forum would be so disapointing ! Bl2 and Bl3 forums were awsome to discuss builds, gears, updates etc
I used it a lot for trading as well. Without a dedicated forum would it be the end of trading ?
I still get pings from posts, threads, and links from up to 5 years ago. I’m sure first gen forummers are getting pings from 7 years ago.
These are people still thirsty for info on a rather opaque batch of games and the wiki can only do so much.
I’ve said this elsewhere however : BL3 didn’t have a board until launch so be concerned on March 25 if TTW is not up, not before.
@Jefe It is not correct that BL3 only got a forum at launch. I went back and checked - the BL3 forum was created April 2019, 5 months before launch.
Borderlands 3 forums also showed up later than I expected. I can’t remember how late. But I do think it was up within 2 weeks prior to release date. Perhaps a month out?
It’s just goofy that we don’t have a official forum for Wonderlands yet. @VaultHunter101
@Jefe LOL, I wasn’t saying panic - it just seems a little weird, right? I mean, I remember the BL3 forums being pretty hot (in terms of activity) prior to that game’s launch. It just seems weird to me that there is no forum for TTW and, given that things kinda seem to be headed overall in a direction away from the message forum-style of social media, I definitely question whether the forums will continue to exist at some point soon.
But I hope that’s not the case, I love the format and camaraderie among the community that the forums foster.
No forum would really suck for our writeups.
Google docs just ain’t as pretty.
I think you can make it pretty with Docs, there’s a great lot of formatting options and you helpfully have an index on the left side, so it’s not all bad. What is bad is that there’s no way the community can interact with our content the same way, ask questions etc.
Furthermore, it will be hidden from Google–if e.g. you google “BL3 critical damage”, my writeup shows up in the results right after the wiki page (which I created actually, but I’m done with the wiki because people keep messing with the entries and “correcting” established peer-reviewed facts and ain’t nobody got time for that).
It’d be a ****ing shame if there’ll be no forum because no Twitter, no Discord, no whatever can replace this format.
Best thread ever!
Sounds like they’re doubling down.
Maybe we should make ourselves heard in the hope we’re not ignored.
Yeah, it doesn’t bode well for future support of the forums. Which is a shame, truly.
I think that answers the question
I checked discord, it’s such a mess I don’t get it. I’ll dearly miss the forums on this platform. Well done Gearbox for that lazy move…
The Wonderlands Discord is a nigh unusable mess. I check the official channels, and don’t bother with the rest.
This is the reply I got a month ago when I asked about why there is no TTW forum.
I’m not sure it’s untrue since there are posts in the BL3 forum going back to March and April of 2019, long before the game launch. I suspect that at least some of those may have been moved there from other forums, but I recall lots of discussions outside of the other forums and think the BL3 forum was up long before game release . Then again, my memory is not what it used to be. ![]()
I think they may now view these forums as unimportant due to the rise in popularity of Twitter and Discord, which is unfortunate since these forums are their legacy player venues and IMHO still the best.
