Initial reviews I am seeing of the game (both BL hardcore types, like most of us, and more casual players) are actually looking pretty decent. I have repeatedly seen comments about how good the story is, which seems very positive. On the other hand, the Chaos Chamber appears to have the Mayhem 10 game modifiers, which sucks. Why they would do that again is beyond me.

Will be interested to hear thoughts from anyone who plays early or on launch.

Every place I have seen this adds the caveat “compared to BL3”. Saying a story is better that BL3 isn’t really saying much, but that is certainly better than nothing.

The return of a universally hated part of BL3 is a big wtf for me. I bought the game knowing this because I love BL3s game play but I’m ready for something new at this point. I imagine a fix on PC will be made for that soon enough since the groundwork has already been done for BL3.

@Jordangold527 I have seen several reviews stating that the story is legit good, not just “good for Borderlands.” And these reviews were from folks that I personally consider Borderlands “casuals,” at least compared to me, you, and many others on the forums. Check out Gmanlives (definitely a “casual” to the Borderlands franchise) on YT for one example.

I blithely opted to watch one by RadBrad (clue was in the username) who declared himself a HUGE BL fan and declared BL2 as PEAK Borderlands and there were three BL games ……which he actually named : one, two and three (like Austin Powers counting his testicles) and that there was some other than that maybe was between 2 and 3 and I can’t remember what it was even called.

@Jefe Well damn, this dude just did a total takedown of all YT. :joy:

I guess one of the reasons I was pointing to Gmanlives is that he plays and reviews a ton of games, almost all FPS’s, and seems like a pretty reasonable guy. I definitely agree that you can’t trust everyone on YT, but if K6, EpicNNG (both BL’ers), and Gman (a BL casual) are all saying the story is good and funny, I kinda tend to think it probably is going to be pretty decent.

I am definitely very disappointed to hear about the quality of loot from Chaos Chambers being dependent on what appears to me to be selecting what are basically Mayhem 10 modifiers. That is not great.

@TemetNosce From what I have seen, BL3 Mayhem 10 modifiers are the “curses” in Chaos Chambers. And from what the reviewers have said, you kinda want to use the curses if you do the Chaos Chambers in order to enhance your chances of loot.

Let me be clear that I have not played the game. Just amalgamating about 3-5 reviews I have watched from YTers that are community members.

Fair. I hear you if that is accurate though, at this point I just kind of shrug. I almost expect Gearbox to mess up things they’ve done better before.

Yeah, curses are apparently literally BL3 Mayhem modifiers. EpicNNG describes them here (with timestamp), being frustrated with them tarnishing otherwise great endgame content:

How adding “honest” in video’s title makes a review better? Eh, what’s new under the sun…

Not really pleased with how barebone reviews of K6 and Joltz are. Just pathetic at this point. Epic and Gman made way more nuanced videos.

What a lukewarm game it is shaping to be…

Edit: Bosses do not respawn? What is this? The Pre-Sequel? Got 'em.

Remember what monetization is folks. There’s a reason advance copies go to guys like K6 (whose vid I haven’t seen), Joltz and whomever else is top of the pops these days.

Honest? That should be a flag.

Still don’t care though. Still getting the game once it hits Steam.

And I see the BL dedicated drop tradition is alive and well.

I agree with this. It’s one of the reasons I try to pay more attention to the content creator’s negative criticisms of the game being reviewed than I do to the positive comments. Whether that’s fair to the game or the reviewer is up for debate I suppose, but it’s always the way I have tried to approach reviews.

What is the latest word on a Wonderlands forum section? I generally prefer the pace of forums to Discord, which doesn’t seem as suitable for asynchronous exchanges.

@Mivo It appears there will not be one. But I believe we are in agreement with the mods that it’s acceptable to post Wonderlands topics to the General Discussion - Games & Tech forum section.

That section has 3 dedicated games. Can’t be posting TTWonderlands stuff in the Aliens: Colonial Marines forum.
Also, New Topics are shut off in that section.
