So, looks like the issue that Borderlands 3 has (never fixed, was around on day 1) on the Xbox One X is back in Wonderlands.
For those who aren’t aware, some special effects (such as being shot in the face with a cryo heavyweight’s ice ball) can insta-overheat the console despite being properly ventilated, just turned on in a chilly room, and clean. This console won’t overheat after being on over 12 hours, even when much of that is running C2077 at 4k, 60FPS. Support never cared about the issue with 3, proved useless and effectively blames the user when it is reported.
And now it returns. Now, it happens on occasion even during respawn or fast travel. This really isn’t acceptable. It is not only my issue, and it seems the only thing that will get it fixed is bringing wider attention to the issue. Gearbox is releasing games less functional than the last, and I really hope this trend doesn’t continue, because I’d hate for myself and others to be forced to outright skip Borderlands 4.

It took a lot of willpower to not purchase Wonderlands. I just had a feeling that the shutdown issue from BL3 that stopped me playing for fear of damaging the hardware would persist to Wonderlands, and here we are. I almost gave in and purchased this morning, glad I held off. Thanks for your post.
I’m on the Series X - I’ve also read posts on Reddit this morning about hard shutdowns from people playing Wonderlands on the Series X, so it’s not just the One X.

I do love the game, but I agree, it is very worrisome.

Standard operating procedure for the modern video game developer. Don’t buy their games any more. Hitting them in the wallet is the only way to make these lazy greedy developers listen.

Borderlands 3 killed my Xbox one X, I had to downgrade back to my Xbox one, it’s slower load times and don’t look as good but it plays longer without freezing. I’m not sure about ttwl though.

Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately, this is a long standing legacy problem that dates back to Borderlands 3.
BL3 would shut down any users Xbox when joining a BL3 coop game, at about a 30% rate. This occured on both XB1X, series S and series X.
The system would completely power down during the initial loading screen of joint a friend’s game or matchmade game, and when turned back on, the Xbox would occasionally respond with the overheating warning message.
This was and does continue to be a known issue, and has never been formally addressed by Gearbox.
Unfortunately, this problem appears to have continued in TTW, which would indicate to me those experiencing this problem need to be prepared to never get this resolved.
Because the game is so new, I would strongly encourage those to seek a refund before the very short window of refund eligibility closes. I waited to do so with BL3, thinking and hoping it would be resolved. It wasn’t, and there is nothing to suggest this will be any different, base on Gearbox’s complete and thorough lack of communication on the prior issue.
You can access your purchase history on your Microsoft account, find your TTW purchase and request a refund.
I would encourage anyone curious about the historical problem to search the BL3 forum on here for:
BL3 is turning off my Xbox.

Playing Elden Ring right now, and also remembering many disappointments of BL3 I had already decided to wait out on this one .
That GBX has the nerve to publish another game capable of shutting down my Xbox is infuriating. Thanks for posting this, I´ll spend my money somewhere else.
ps
Bought and played every Borderlands game up to BL3, including the BL1 remaster. You guys broke that customer loyalty on purpose, as it seems. Good job!

Yep, nothing surpising me in the least with the issues TTW is currently having. I also see that @GBX is still sticking with the tried and true "we’re aware of it’ or the gratuitous “we’re looking into it” answers.
Like others I certainly would of at one time bought this right out the gate but thanks to the way issues were addressed in BL3, nope and glad I didnt. I feel sorry for those that did or expected this release to be more polished, clearly it wasn’t.
Good luck to those that bought this and are desperately hoping for proper fixes but unless a streamer that @GBX follows addresses it, don’t hold your breath.
