UI updates in next patch

The new cursors system is SUPER powerful (you can skin pretty much anything, animate sub-elements, structure smaller images in layers with arbitrary placement, etc) - so my suggestion would be to make a ‘cursors’ mod. When we (hopefully) get a few more patches out one thing we want is the ability to say ‘this mod is just a skin’ and have it not affect others in MP (so we know it’s just a visual change, doesn’t cheat/advantage or affect game-sim). Meaning stuff like ‘alternate cursors!’ or ‘visual disability enhancements!’ mods will be not only viable - but very much in demand.

Check out Cursors.lua - the whole thing is pretty easy to understand - but ask in another ([QUESTION]!) thread, and I can help if you need anything…

Having skinning mods be use able like that would be freaking AWESOME.

That’s awesome. CoH had that ability, worked very well and definitely enjoyed all around.

It’d be really nice to have the Homeworld 1 mouse cursor optionally selectable to use. It’s much smaller, is transparent in its centre, and has minimal presence on the screen. Plus, nostalgia.

I think someone made a mod for that.

I have a little request, building fighters with HW1 is kinda of a clicking exercise, you have to do 1 click for every single ship, let’s say you are building the 70 interceptors, so here we go 1 click, 2 clicks, 3 clicks… 70 clicks!

So I have 2 suggestions, 1 – give us an Add on hold mouse button, like if you hold “+” it will quicly add more ships or 2 – give us a “+10” option, so we can add fighters on queue 10 by 10 instead of 1 by 1, first option sounds better imo.

Agreed with Kadeshi, this is a must, though I’m for hotkeys rather than additional buttons:
Hold shift for 5 units, CTRL for 50. Fairly standard conventions for modern RTS.
It should also work in reverse using right mouse button.

Ya my finger is getting worn out playing hw1. Especially when i need to change the build que order on 50 ships…

I’m not 100% sure, but I’ve read somewhere that in HW1 using “.” at the moment you order 1 unit, it would produce 5 units.
Never tried out though.

I am a Korean
English is difficult
So I use google translate.
This is I think quite sorry

But now there are plenty of problems ui
So I modified the ui.
This screenshot is the state that is being modified

  1. upperleft
-> resource.lua : Background color darkens(If the map is not bright, it seems ru numbers)
->newtastbar.lua : sensor view, group number button shift
    ->newtaskbar.lua : queue,unitcapinfopopup / eventscreen button Individual actions

->buildqueuemenu.lua : Redesign
**** Request = Unplug the battle cruiser List

->eventscreen.lua : Mission objectives and general event was to have a different font color and font size.
**** Request = More information is needed

  1. lowerleft
-> Single unit selection : Redesign

-> Multi unit selection : Redesign
**** Request = Displays the name of the ships, respectively

3.build, research, launch windows
**** Request = Please stop the game screen and unnecessary scrolling in three windows
**** Request = build, research window (queue parts: Please lock the buttons and progress bar position)

More difficult to use English …

Expect to use good UI

Hi Brian,

I have been trying out a few of the UI mods that are out, but I’m having issues with those. So I came here looking at the forums and see that you are saying that a new UI is being worked on. Is that true?

I was trying to get my own UI working with a smaller left sidebar, but I’m having some issues with it working correctly Namely, the Research tab is micro small for some reason.

But I love how you have them on the side in a vertical mode. that’s pretty awesome.

Also, the bottom Que for ship research and building. the text down there is so large. Can you guys please fix that?

Another thing would be the mouse Zooming and Zoom out levels. I did get that working by adjusting the mouse.ula and got the zoom out nice and the slow wheel mouse zooming.

Are these also things you guys are looking to fix?

Please let me know if I should continue working a mod or wait to see what you come out with.

Thanks,

Rick

Overall I LOVE IT!

You kinda brought back the old bar at the bottom for good visibility.

Really, HW2C UI was the best layout, it just needed a visual overhaul to make it look sharper and cleaner.

I would really like to have an option to remove the line from your ships to the build sidebar. That old-school feel needs to go away. I feel like you are holding my hand telling me hey look, this is the ship you have selected for research.

I liked one of the other UI Mods I used. it removed that line. but those mods are not compatible with the new patch.

Hell no, that line needs to stay, if anything they could make it optional but to simply remove it is a very bad idea in my opinion. Sure if you only got one carrier and your mothership its not that helpful but once you got several carriers, bcs and shipyards it is very useful to know which ship is building what.

But like I said, making it optional would please us both I guess and would be the best solution if they even wanna implement it at all (haven’t heard anyone else asking for it so the demand seems to be very low).

OK, I get it some people like that line so yes, make it an option to be removed.

But explain to me why you like it? I cant understand why anyone would want that line being dragged all over your screen. it just feel odd and clunky having it there.

And please don’t tell me you like it all for the sake of nostalgia. that would be lames as hell.

I already explained why I find it useful in my previous post  and no, its not for nostalgia reasons ^^.

I don’t know dude, to me that’s just bleh, I always know what I’m building and to be honest. if you are using a zoom mod for the camera its 10 times easier finding your units. and to be honest again. that is what the top slider is for so you can easily scroll thorough all of our ships building queues.

Anyway, I hope it becomes an option, because I’m modding it out in my mod.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I know, what I meant was if you got carriers at different positions of the map and you need specific units at that location and other units at another one I find it useful to immediatly see if I got the correct carrier for that region selected, but I can totally understand that it is annoying for others

I would like an option to permanently close some of the on-screen interface in-game. What I desire is to see the ship selection menu and my command buttons (those in the bottom right of the screen). All other UI features I’d like the ability to turn off. They just get in the way for me. I don’t use them.
