UI updates in next patch

I think there should be a fourth tab on the build menu dedicated to managing subsystems. I.e. to list them per build capable ship and allow you to easily retire them if needed.

BTW am I the only one who doesn’t even see the blue energy bubble for the Hiigaran Defense Field Frigate?
What you suggest would definitely be useful.

Being able to click a subsystem that’s already built again and have a little “click again to recycle this” overlay pop up would be incredibly useful for a lot of subsystem based ships.

Heyo!
Quick update. I sadly couldn’t get the vertical buttons working correctly with the improved UI scaling, so I switched it back to horizontal and added some fancyness to have it scale down if you shrink the build menu too much. It’s certainly not perfect, but it still allows you to scale the build menu down a lot. (It didn’t work because the build queue area + scaled up selected unit command buttons + build item listbox all got too scrunched up.

IMO the vertical buttons are a superior interface since it’s way faster to select the category then select the thing you want to build. I’ve left it in the code commented out if you want to reenable it to see what I’m talking about.

TODO: (After Patch 2, since Patch 2 is locked now.)

  • Add saving of the Build/Research/Launch menues sizes.
  • Add the ability to scale the individual sections of the HUD. This is actually quite trivial to do now for anyone, it just needs the save logic…
  • Add cursor icon to indicate an element can be drag/scaled

You might notice a trend that adding/saving settings is a real bitch to do right now without a lot of backend code work. I hope to make this easier for us and everyone else by Patch 3.

I’m looking forward to that! I’ve got some ideas for UI customization I’d like to try out once it’s in.

Go get my updates in the patch!

Gonna close this thread tonight so I can start a new clean one. Until then!

Hey guys!
So in this patch I added the command “-forceResolution” which will force the game to play at whatever -w and -h you set on the command line!

This is very much a modder feature to test various resolutions and aspect ratios for the UI. Very unsupported and will likely cause issues if you are trying to use it for anything other than testing.

Enjoy!

Yay for docking grid!

Is list sorting possible to mod, or is it not accessible?

Is there any way you guys could revert back to the HW2 special command icons? Currently they are all blue and they are hard to tell apart. In HW2 the attack icon was red, harvest was orange, etc. etc… This made it a lot easier to see things at a glance. I admit it is not as Homeworld-y or pretty, but the use of blue for everything is kind of annoying.

I’m specifically talking about the icons attached to the mouse cursor.

The new cursors system is SUPER powerful (you can skin pretty much anything, animate sub-elements, structure smaller images in layers with arbitrary placement, etc) - so my suggestion would be to make a ‘cursors’ mod. When we (hopefully) get a few more patches out one thing we want is the ability to say ‘this mod is just a skin’ and have it not affect others in MP (so we know it’s just a visual change, doesn’t cheat/advantage or affect game-sim). Meaning stuff like ‘alternate cursors!’ or ‘visual disability enhancements!’ mods will be not only viable - but very much in demand.

Check out Cursors.lua - the whole thing is pretty easy to understand - but ask in another ([QUESTION]!) thread, and I can help if you need anything…

Having skinning mods be use able like that would be freaking AWESOME.

That’s awesome. CoH had that ability, worked very well and definitely enjoyed all around.

It’d be really nice to have the Homeworld 1 mouse cursor optionally selectable to use. It’s much smaller, is transparent in its centre, and has minimal presence on the screen. Plus, nostalgia.

I think someone made a mod for that.

I have a little request, building fighters with HW1 is kinda of a clicking exercise, you have to do 1 click for every single ship, let’s say you are building the 70 interceptors, so here we go 1 click, 2 clicks, 3 clicks… 70 clicks!

So I have 2 suggestions, 1 – give us an Add on hold mouse button, like if you hold “+” it will quicly add more ships or 2 – give us a “+10” option, so we can add fighters on queue 10 by 10 instead of 1 by 1, first option sounds better imo.

Agreed with Kadeshi, this is a must, though I’m for hotkeys rather than additional buttons:
Hold shift for 5 units, CTRL for 50. Fairly standard conventions for modern RTS.
It should also work in reverse using right mouse button.

I’m not 100% sure, but I’ve read somewhere that in HW1 using “.” at the moment you order 1 unit, it would produce 5 units.
Never tried out though.

I am a Korean
