I’ve thought about that too…what if (and this is just a juvenile fantasy :P) we had ā€œofficialā€ races for ladder only? I’m pretty sure ladder will get MP players their fix.

Mods would be used for more ā€œcasualā€ gaming. Something I note while seeing my friends go through ā€œladder anxietyā€. Unranked in SC for instance makes use of the SAME maps from the ladder, they might as well call it ā€œladder training roomā€. HW unranked could make use of random maps, random mods, random everything (though a settings filter could be nice)

Hell if Gbox could figure out their ā€œbalance formulaā€ or guideline, then highly ranked mods could even make it to standard MP.

I’m just gonna stop…enough fantasy :P…just give us a lobby please, that will do for the time being

Seriously.

I like you, man. I like you.

I was hoping for something- at least on topic

didn’t click fyi

Didn’t watch a funny Will Ferrell youtube video? Don’t bother clicking it anymore, it doesn’t even apply to you, man! Doesn’t even apply! My mistake! lol

C’mon @scole @BitVenom, how about just a quick video of heavy vets in a 9 unit wall, hell a screen shot of a support frigate beam.

Give us another one of your ā€˜coming up for air’ post.

Please?

Did you just

take a picture of your screen

instead of taking a screenshot.

Faster then dicking around trying to figure out why PrtScr gives me a black picture and why I can take screenshots in game but not if I am looking at the games list.

Tried taking screens of game list?

Different definition of funny. Saw the movie, part of anyway, it fell in my definition of stupid.

FRAPS works fine. It’s probably only one of a million of ways to take a screenshot properly.

Yesterday I tried to get a match, failed, the only match that filled up crashed and people drifted away.
I don’t even use the dev tracker anymore, there are so few post lately in the forum that makes unnecessary use it.
I would never expect that a 2 months old game, that claim to have sold 100k copies in the pre sale would be dead like this.
The worst part is that hwr is still lurking around the top sale list, but the mp is so bad right now that nobody plays it.

I blame Relic more than I blame anyone at GBX for the unstable engine. Regardless what people say about it, HW1 (and Cataclysm) classic still work great on modern systems with a few registry edits and on top of that I’ve never had any desyncs with it via virtual LAN. HW2 classic on the other hand…

Fact is that HW2’s engine was never much good, not as stable as HW1’s anyway, the only advantage from an end user point were the superior graphics, UI and modding support; stability of the engine and combat model (AKA the GAME parts) were inferior to HW1.

All this is my bitchy way of saying that the GBX devs are already working with a beast that the original devs never quite tamed. (After a dying Sierra canceled Dust Wars and rushed Relic to release HW2) It’s annoying to have days of silence but I trust that the reason is that they are still wrestling with the mess that is HW2’s engine. The netcode is already more stable than the original ever was, so lets just see how much more they can improve it.

Official balancing can come after the planned engine changes.

Sorry the screen photo is not up to the aesthetic standard. Where is the eua section governing which method of providing visual proof of one’s argument is deemed visually offensive? I’ll be sure to comply in future postings.

You know, for a post-alpha, HWR MP is doing well.

Very true. The HW2 game engine sucked for MP game play.

So your suggestion is to install more programs to take a simple screen shot that basic functionality should already provide? Yeah am i the only one seeing the problem there?

Along with ā€œtake picture with cellphone and upload to forumā€

Corvette walls are not working right at the moment-all the dynamic squad stuff will be banged on further (smarter formations, smarter attack styles, single ship population/dock caps, and the other attendant functions) after we get this patch out, which is a decent chunk of work in itself as the patch addresses a lot of issues (40+).

Yeah the patch covers lots of the code behind the balance mechanics we have to iterate. Finding and killing bugs that affect core play mechanics was ongoing and really screws with trying to lock balance stuff down. This is a pretty major patch. The next non-balance patch (no idea on ETA, probably faster than this one) will be quite large too I think. If I get time I’ll be pushing hard to make that update super-ultra-extra killer for Mod support stuff.
