Unbalaced teams and too long matches

I like the current game round times but im defo liking the idea of the option for faster game modes

dont always have 30mins to spare for a whole game.

I find it hard to believe that simple TDM will happen in this game- its basic shooter mechanic are too slow for that. it is a tactical game at its core, that a team of five have got to work together.

in many bad matched games. when my team with the best player at level 7, and matched team in level 14-26… i understand that the match making is not at it’s peak right now. but also- there have to be a solutions to quitters. i never saw a team of 4 beats a team of five in this game. and i’m not sure that its possible either.

tbf a TDM could work as long as we all start at level 10 in game?

But will you play as support or as defender in those modes?
i don’t think so. TDM is a fast-kill as much as you can and die as little as possible, there is no place for support units (or shilders, or any place specific charters).
I would like to see a quick mode based on a specific class- like snipers only TDM or support challenge mode- when the supporters are the only guys who can build turrets and the win\losing of the match is based mostly on keeping the support alive for him to get an objective fixed\build.

It could work with different map layouts in all honesty i just said it might happen who knows what we will get.

Random fun game modes would be cool!

and personally i would but thats just because i always go “Fill” and if a healer/support im happy to take it, as TDM its just as important to not die as much as its to get kills. but i know what your getting at as not everyone has the right mind set :stuck_out_tongue:

All Oscar Mike TDM? XD

I don’t mean to be rude but these are all terrible terrible ideas. This game, it’s character skills, it’s mechanics all require a match to last 20 to 30 minutes. Hell our ult has a cool down of 1 minute and you want this to become some fast paced mindless tdm of 5 to ten minutes? I would cancel my preorder in a heartbeat if that happened. I don’t care what justifications you make in your head but many characters would lose their utility if all that mattered were quick kills in short games. Incursion is a perfect mode and the only way it could get better is through more maps. It’s faster paced than regular moba which have matches that can last 50 or minutes and slower paced for strategy than 10 minute tdm. Unfocused mode suggestions like the ones on this thread do the game a disservice by splitting the community into even more sparse pools of players for each mode

I had an 8 minute game the other day. Followed immediatly by a full-length, down to the wire, we needed the last 5 seconds to win kind of game. It was amazing

I think in all fairness as it’s just in beta play, a lot of people are just playing around with new characters and therefore may suck during games. I’ve had awesome games with my main class, and really sh*t ones with new classes.

Match making is the same in all multiplayer games I’ve ever played, some times it’s bad, even, and then you wreck. Today has been awesome, last night was full of quiters, AFK, and 3 v 5 games. Devs can’t address this, apart from kicking people for inactivity - and that needs to happen to replenish the team quick.

Time wise, well I think Incursion has the right balance. You need so much time to level up so it kinda fits. It’s a good war of attrition. But I see your point in having faster game modes. Is there no where that says what all the game modes are? They’ve been very forth coming and open with this game so far.

I’ve done it and it’s been done to me. It’s entirely possible, just difficult.

Same. Did it twice last night with El dragon. Key is pushing minion lanes. Everyone else thinks this team death match until they lose their sentries

I am not saying that is the way to go but i do agree that incursion may take to long sometimes, but I agree i enjoy it. If there was a game mode that averages around 15 minutes compared to the 30 incursion usually takes I would not be against it. The whole toying around with the idea of a TDM was more thinking of Halos BTB playlists. Longer games but still for the most part a TDM.

If its the class argument battlefield has always had multiple class types and as Battleborn gets most of its archetypes from RPG’s and FPS games it wouldn’t be to hard to think of an idea to implement it.

The idea of a shorter game type should not be thrown out i agree 5 minutes no but with decently length Story Missions a quicker game type for when you don’t have a lot of time, Why not?

Just because you don’t want something that is a bit easier and quicker doesn’t mean that others may. Incursion is fun but it will get old. And after release I feel like it will get old quick.

I agree that matchmaking is broken. Last night I played a game of meltdown. My team was made of players level 15 to 70. 70! And the highest ranked player we played against was level 4. The game lasted about 5 minutes and the score was 500 to 60. I’ve also played against and been on teams of 4. I’m sure situations like this would put a very bad taste in the mouths of new players who may not even understand the objective of the game. Personally I wouldn’t play tdm, however I would play ctf. I don’t like shooters where the objective is literally “kill other players before they kill you.” nothing wrong with that. I just don’t like it. I would also play horde if they added it. I find the time limits and the length of the games just fine. I’m also ok with the slower leveling in pvp. If it were faster I think it would become unbalanced. Certain characters become very very strong once they get their ultimate. (Rath, orendi) others come out of the gate very strong but I don’t feel like they can match some of the other characters in late game. (montana) I’m OK with this as well it adds a sense of urgency and rewards playing efficiently. All in all I’m pretty happy with battleborn. The only flaw I see is matchmaking. Oh and forcing us to wait two minutes while picking characters! I’d like to see more game modes too.

The problem I have with shorter matches is that there’s less time for different strategies to unfold, for the tide to swing, for you to gather resources or even use your ult for more than a couple times. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s that I was led to believe this was a game based upon strategy. Brief modes in my mind don’t align with what battle born is marketing itself to be. Halo and battlefield are in no way similar to this game other than both have some shooting mechanics and heck many battlefield matches go for 30 minutes or more. Have you played any conquest matches there recently? Almost every server is tweaked for long matches and no one seems to be playing the shorter rush mode.

Also you’ll be asking for developers to spend time making modes that don’t follow their design theme merely for catering to niche interests. You’ll also split the player base into more and more modes

Glad you brought up Battlefield as that was the first game that crossed my mind. Pacing is everything… I also agree that bombarding the game with modes could possibly split the community.

Agree with you. What we have here is too damn many CoD players thinking it is mindless shooting and killing. This happens to all skill type multiplayer games. This game is pretty easy to pick up and play. That’s what they were going for, but it is also still a MOBA that requires thinking.

They will either leave or adapt. Who wants to take bets on the next cod game having some type of mode like incursion though?

They need some sort of ELO, meaning a system that measures skill and pools players of the same general skill level together. They could introduce a shorter mode (like most mobas have. Arena in smite for example) but I think the amount of gamemodes should be limited to prefent splitting up the playerbase to much. I’d say that four to five gamemodes max.

Maybe they should make ps4 and xbox One cross platform, to pool the playerbase.

The matches are usual length for this type of game that implements moba elements. Meltdown matches can be a dragged out fight but incursion matches can be won with aggression only if a team is coordinated. You’re argument for spending 30 minutes in a match is baseless. This game is not call of duty, it’s a team based game where you have to work with a team to achieve victory. People that are rage quitting, or simply believe that they are better than lower command ranked players is bad. I say they remove the rank from showing up in public matchmaking that way it will mitigate quitters. In ranked play, yes you should absolutely show the players ranks cause that’s where it matters. Think of public matches as practice for ranked matches. The reason that you are experiencing such a big gap of time between leveling in story mode vs competitive is because in story mode you focus on the creeps. In competitive play I see many players just go after other players while those of us that are familiar with moba styled games realize that the creeps are the biggest source of experience and also important to winning the two current competitive game modes. Think of it this way, time to kill players vs time to kill a group of creeps. You need to farm creeps as well as harass players that get too close, don’t just charge off and chase them, work with your team (even if they’re random players). There absolutely needs to be a punishment for players who quit mid match or at the start of the match, a simple time out that increases the amount of time for every instance of a player quitting at the beginning of a match or mid match. AFK players need to just be booted if they do not move around for about 1-2 minutes total. Another option that I like even better is if players have to pay a penalty of a portion of their total currency, whether it be the credits or character rank. This will mitigate quitters because they will have something to lose for their toxic actions. There needs to be a match restart when the teams are unbalanced due to quitters to re-balance the teams, say 5v3 or 5v2. These types of matches are not fun and can ruin a persons perception of the game, and even add toxicity to the community. The game mode currently presented do not demand much in the way of tactics other than if you get in a fight make sure you have your team with you and you pounce on 1-2 enemy players, otherwise you just build turrets and push creeps. Another thing that many players need to learn is team composition, this means that every member of a team needs to know which characters they can choose create a well rounded team and have a better chance of winning a match by working together. As we speak at this time in the forums, everyone is just running around and not playing as a team, they’re being lone wolf’s and they do not understand what attributes their characters have. The team dynamic is so lost on many people playing this game because they think it’s just another shooter, like call of duty but but with a borderlands type of aesthetic, and it is not which is a reason for many quitters because they don’t have an understanding of the nuance of the game. If you have not played a moba styled game and are playing this beta then you are in for a huge learning curve.

I Honestly like Meltdown more played both feel like meltdown goes quicker I don enjoy this game I am happy with it all im saying is to keep an open mind. I am not a CoD fan and personally I would say that most people who stick with this game aren’t gonna be. CoD won’t have an incursion mode ever simply cause it drags out to much compared to what the users want. Halo has a better chance of getting one simply cause they had a similar one in the past. I have often found that teamwork may be key or just have one player who can kill quickly and get his levels that can prevent the other team from leveling. Personally this game is more balanced than the typical MOBA, honestly who knows what the devs will do. Saying you won’t play this game simply because of a shorter game mode is stupid and if thats the case don’t play the game at all.

Give the Devs free reign of what they want. Post like this one originally was are ideas to be given. The devs get the final say anyways.
