Hello!
@Derch, @Abvex and I wanted to share this free voice and text app with you guys as it has been really awesome for us to use. It’s called Discord and it might still be in beta but still has a lot of good functions and accessible on multiple devices.
We made a server with currently over 30 people in it for Gearbox lovers to come chat, get together, and play games.
You can check out the Discord site and make an account here: https://discordapp.com/
And then join the server through here: https://discord.gg/0Ut1Gt2sJo6GTFXa
I wanted to also give a shout-out to those who joined the past few days and helped us tested it out, we gave you guys a badass role with access to a private chat.
The Discord App actually walks you through things when you first join it but just incase:
Quick Newbie Guide for those interested:
Discord for the record is still considered in beta!
So Discord can easily be accessed via browser, the make an account is pretty standard.
Yes, it will ask for your email. Why? To save your setting so you can log in on multiple devices and later shop in their store for skin, voice, and emote packs that will be saved to your account.
So this is the view from the browser, there are a few restrictions like how it won’t detect what game you are playing and more than likely will not detect your mic at first, unless you gave your browser access to it.
Unless you want to chat during work I would really recommend downloading the app!

This is the application on windows, really slick and neat you can adjust the size, I prefer maximizing it, but just for showcase I made it smaller for now.
Side note here, I have a theory they keep showing me the WoW skin when I log in is because I play that game the most.
Looks pretty much the same as it does on the browser!
So let’s say you get an invite and you don’t want to click the link and have it run through the browser as it will ask you to login everytime. (The application automatically does it when you launch the program.) You can click the + sign under all the circle images. Then of course “Join a Server” and just paste the link.
But that’s if someone gives you a link from let’s say the Gearbox forums or Steam chat. If they give you a link through the discord app it’ll automatically go through the app itself, no browser needed.

Getting into a channel is easy just click them once, it’ll show up same goes for voice channel. To disconnect from voice just hang up!

Now that’s all the basic stuff here’s the fun part I recommend doing, starting with turning off Attenuation. Incase Discord didn’t tell you: settings is the cogwheel icon on the bottom left near your name and next to the mic & headphone buttons.
For me this thing is broken as it doesn’t listen to my prefered windows sound settings, it mutes my steam chat and chrome sound whenever I go into voice chat. And it’ s just something that is just not needed.
Next thing you’re gonna wanna do is turn text-to-speech off! Unless you love hearing someone read to you 24/7. Go right ahead.
Another helpful tip, although I’m not sure where you can do this on Mac so I apologize, but on windows the little icon you have on the bottom right: right click it and you can turn off the run at start, if you wish to not have it run all the time when you get on the PC.
Now why Discord? Why not a chatbox, iirc, teamspeak, mumble, skype, etc…
Well because it’s all of those combined and free!
One of the things I love about it the easy way you can just drag pictures into the chat and it’ll be there for show just like that! Even links will work. These gracefully minimize in chat so it doesn’t clog up and you can click them to get a better view.
I don’t know if you have been on Teamspeak, but pokes are annoying and sometimes will window you out of your game.
Discord however will have a small popup notifications like steam chat and even has the same system this forum has with mentions! Just type in @ and go from there!
The symbol # is currently used as a quick reference to a text channel, I think Discord could do more with this option in the future.
Emotes! Lots of them!!
Ah I forgot to mention there is private messaging, pretty simple just click on a users avatar or even click on your own avatar in the top left corner and you can send messages.

Since I’m also showing this screenshot notice the user volume, it’s beautiful! It works perfectly well so far and doesn’t distort sound when adjusted from my experience.
The last best tip of all though which for some reason Discord never showed me this but you can mute channels if you don’t wish to hear the constant ping from them.

Last thing, Discord App on the phone is just wonderful and easy, free of course and even pretty light on data usage!
