Upcoming story operations - which characters?

Like with his wife and kids, I think the saddest twist on that would be that instead of the varelsi killing them possibly, benedict is in extreme denial and that they left him

I know in benedicts lore he sends a letter through the UPR refugee system mentioning someone that he knew(can’t remember the name) and saying that he hoped to find him/her. I would love to see a more emotional side of Benedict in an operation revolved around this. The reason I mentioned you is because you’ve immersed yourself so well into the character if anyone could make a good Benedict story you’d be up there.
If only @Jythri needed writers…

I am disappointed at how little the Rogue faction seems to be featuring in PvE. The upcoming Toby mission doesn’t seem likely to showcase them very much either.

PvE seems to be all about Eldrid, LLC, and Jennerit. A dash of UPR on the side, but most of the Mission Packs are going to be UPR focused.

It’s actually thr LLC operation. She used (according to the LLC, flawed) Eldrid technology to make her rapiers. As several above me said. Her lore is very interesting

@epicender584

Ill have to get her mastered up quick so I can read all her lore (ive got her (Phoebe) at 12).

I mean, the swords do seem to appear out of thin air the same way that Thorns arrows do!

Hmm. Never thought about that. Blade Rush is just the swords floating behind her, but what about Blade Cascade?

@epicender584

Yeah, her Ultimate. Got the two confused. I meant Blade Cascade the swords appearing look similiar to how Thorns arrows appear.

Her blades should be a part of her basics

Agreed.

Yeah, honestly, it doesn’t make sense the way it is now. At least they’re involved in Blade Sweep or whatever it’d called

I always thought it’d be cool if Phoebe had a combo where she stabbed with her first blade and then stabbed with the other floating blades around her and finished the combo with all five of her swords stabbing the target dealing a massive finisher combo damage

Yeah, this was a practical consideration, based somewhat on which environments we decided to feature. Though, I think if I was more precise, the three most featured in the main story are the Jennerit, Peacekeepers (UPR), and LLC. The Jennerit, of course, because Rendain is the villain of this chapter and you spend time on Tempest; the UPR because you spend all of your time on snowy Bliss in their bases (and because Ghalt came from there and features promininently); and the LLC because they made all the minions, sentries, ISICs and other machines of war you see around. Technically, the Eldrid don’t get much attention, other than the Observatory mission which talks about some of what they’re learning about the Varelsi. You see a lot of Ekkunar, though, but tehcnically…that’s the Aztanti (the ancient civilization) not precisely the Eldrid.

I’m happy to say, though, that the Operations missions will help round some of this out. Toby’s Friendship Raid spends more time with the rogues, and the Heart of Ekkunar will spent more time on…universal…topics.

Well, not to split hairs but The Archive is absolutely only about the Eldrid - you’re there to save the collected knowledge of their entire people.

And I admit I maybe am not completely clear on The Sentinel, but I was under the impression that everything there was primarily of Eldrid origin (barring some Aztanti hand me downs since Ekkunar was one of their planets) given that Mellka even says that the place was built during a time when the Eldrid were a very different civilization.

Getting back to the Rogues, I just would have liked to see some more banter and character moments from folks like Reyna or Whiskey Foxtrot, Reyna is especially odd as she is the only leader type figure among the factions to have absolutely zero campaign presence.

One of my hopes now when I’ve seen the titles is that there will be a lot of Whiskey Foxtrot involved in the story mission centered around the Oscar Mike. I myself haven’t found the UPR too intriguing, or at least compared to the other factions, and Whiskey to me seems to be the most interesting part of that story. But that’s me!

Yessssssssssssss

Reyna not being involved did confuse me. Most I can think of is VA problems? Otherwise there’s no reason for it that I can think of

Honestly? Probably just one of several campaign related things that hit the chopping block when crunch time leading up to release state hit.

Not to monger gossip and conjecture but you can find lots of other things looking at pre-release material for Battleborn that just completely vanished into thin air for the final release.

Take, for example, virtually every single thing in this trailer from barely over a month away from launch. The only scenarios I can think of are as follows:

  1. These in-game model animated scenes, and the accompanying unique dialogue found nowhere else in the game, had to be abandoned because other accompanying scenes could not be finished in time. Rather than leave the campaign with only a portion of such scenes completed, we instead got the drawn animation scenes and stills found in the Prologue and after the end of Heliophage. Or, alternatively in this scenario, these scenes were completed and present in many of the missions, but were cut due to feedback from QA and focus testing finding them to be counter-intuitive to the replayable format the missions are meant to be in.

  2. This is the less likely of the two, but it’s also possible that this trailer is purely fabricated hype. Gearbox had some dialogue that had already been recorded, the scenes use in game assets, so some cool looking scenes were put together with no actual context in the game to get people excited about this epic-scale conflict to unfold in the campaign. As I said I find it extremely unlikely to be the case as some of what we see there takes far more effort than something like this would require, and actually some of it does have context within the story missions we wound up with - I have no idea why Mellka is screaming over an apparently dead Reyna, but that’s pretty obviously Ekkunar collapsing after the Archive has been extracted and Rendain’s destroyed the planet!

It’s something we’ll probably never have a straight answer from Gearbox on. Personally I would still like to see what the greater picture on these scenes are as a fan, as a behind the scenes sort of thing. Perhaps a lot of the characterization we’re missing from the Rogue faction happened to be in there!

I’m pretty sure that everything in that trailer was done just for that trailer. You won’t find it in the game. it was made using the games resources but it was all made for out of game promotional materials.

I forgot how great that trailer existed. Interesting
