I honestly never thought this would get done, I played the first two missions and stopped as I felt the lack of formations killed all the fun for me, this patch will restore my faith in GB, its been a long road but I am glad this is getting the attention it deserves the game looks so good and this was a huge stain on it. Thanks for you continued support.
Formations look really cool, based on the gif maybe even better than in original HW1. But there was one other thing that made HW gameplay worse than in HW1 classic, and that thing was dynamic beam from support frigates and harvesters. Have you also reworked those systems as well, so that harvesters don’t stick to asteroids anymore, but instead circle around them while harvesting? Same with support frigates dynamically healing units without them needing to “attach” to other units? Please say YES!
Oh and how about the sensor manager? HW2C sensor manager showed dust clouds and other things a lot more clearly than HW2R sensor. The mission where you need to move through dust clouds to infiltrate enemy outposts doesn’t show those clouds at all. Thats pretty much a game breaking “bug” when the game is telling us to move through dust clouds that we can’t even see. Comparison:
I’m sure it’s not that hard to fix or implement it back from the classic version since it’s using the same engine.
I don’t think the beam thing will be implemented, they’ve already stated that they won’t do anything to that.
Not sure about the dust cloud thing.
The current version of the game has already fixed the support frigate/corvette healing beam to work like in HW1, no attachment required. However I don’t see it as likely that the harvester beam will be changed due to how minor of a part of the game it is (you rarely see collectors up that close). As much as I would love to see it, I don’t expect it to happen.
Maybe I’m weird, but harvesters are the most impressive unit to watch in HW1 classic
Yes, it’s not that big issue, but It’s still a bit annoying to watch how they need to always position themselves correctly to start harvesting.
For support frigates - were they patched in one of the early patches, or did the gearbox balancing mod fix it? I haven’t played HW1R for a long time. I was playing classic versions instead while waiting for this big patch.
I was able to reproduce the glitch within five minutes of starting up the current live version of HWRM. I don’t blame you or anyone at Gearbox since this is a bug that was in HW2 forever and I have had to deal with it on every PC and OS since 2003.
However, if you have been able to fix this in the upcoming patch I will be overjoyed!
Yes, support frigs were patched in one of the earlier releases. (just confirmed this on a vanilla skirmish.)
Yeah I totally agree though. All those long hours spent watching the collectors while they collected every last scrap of resources on the map before hyperspacing is something I will never forget. Imagine how boring that would have been with the current system!
To tell you the truth, I was more blown away when I saw that harvesters would actually mine the asteroids in HW2 than when they used beams in HW1. I was like “Woh! They’re actually drilling the rock!” in my adolescent brain. Funny how people will always think different things are better.
Yup, back then the whole direct interaction thing (between miner and asteroid in HW2) was a way bigger deal than a non interacting beam thing being pointed in the general direction of the asteroid. In RM the interaction feels more direct, and the asteroid effects as it gets mined makes a huge difference rather than the roid just getting smaller. Not that the way it was done in HW1C was bad, just that this is better.
I believe the dust clouds issue can be corrected by turning down anti-aliasing on your video settings within HWRM. Try that and see if that helps. I thought it worked for me at least.
The dust cloud issue was adressed in a patch quite a while ago and should be fixed in the current version (with or without the MP beta patch).
I liked the way in HW:C when a large asteroid was being mined, as it got smaller it would split in two or more fragments that could be mined separately. After that, if memory serves, after the smallest fragments were completely dissolved there would remain a dust cloud that you could continue to mine for a small number of RUs
Are you sure you’re not just talking from nostalgia? I can’t remember any of that ever being the case except for the one mission where you shoot asteroids and they split up into smaller roids you can mine.
In original HW1, asteroids got smaller as they were mined and disappeared when they were done. They did not break up into pieces when mined nor did they turn into dust clouds. Resource Collectors, however, would leave dust clouds behind if they were destroyed while carrying resources.
No I’m talking about cata not classic. sorry for the confusion
I guess patch won’t arrive sooner than April/May since Complex 10 can’t launch on current version…am I on a good track here?
Please don’t even say that :C
Hey devs!
What percentage of the patch is done? 60%? 80%?
This isn’t about ETA, I mean in terms of work done.

Be careful asking that question to software engineers. Work often inflates as issues are found and analyzed. =]
