Last night starting at about midnight EST the wait times for matchmaking started getting really bad for us in Versus Draft. It was mostly fine the couple of hours before that.
Itâs a cool idea but not practical with community size.
Most of us want to jump in and have a good time, not go in and never get to play our favorite characters.
Bot Battle has been great because you get lore and quest credit. So when you do play pvp youâre focused on the match, not stats.
I canât believe they allow you to see the enemy comp in quick. Every pre-made team ive seen waits for the sad pugs to choose, then counter picks.
It really was an unfortunate choice especially if you wanted to play Pendles and insta-locked him. Thatâs the one counter pick someone in my group always makes, we probably shouldnât but our willpower is weak on this one.
I stopped playing draft because I kept running into enemy teams that were command rank 25 and below. I would go back to playing incursion, but that queue doesnât exist anymore.
The problem with versus draft for most competitive-tier versus draft minded teams was that our ELO/MMR/whatever is so high that it takes absolutely forever for the matchmaking range to deteriorate to a point where other players to get matched against even exist. Iâd much rather sit in queue for 3 minutes than sit in queue for 15, especially when the changes to meltdown mean most matches are going to be shorter than that.
Itâs a real shame because I love Versus Draft, and all the boring âIncursion only!!!â people have just moved over to Quick Match to ruin the variety that queue was offering players. I like the idea of this system, so I hope we can find a way to fix it without losing public Draft mode.
I really, really miss the Incursion queue. I know theoretically I could just go over to draft and be 90% guaranteed my favorite game type, but I dislike the idea of bans and the tedious character selection screen more than I dislike not getting to play Incursion.
True many players do. At one point I did too. The reason was because most of the teams didnât know how to make a good team composition unless there was a premade group.
Where a lot of people seem to see a boring exercise in tedium, I see an extra layer of strategy. You always need a backup plan for who youâre going to play. Talking with your team during character select and running strategies by each other is what makes Versus Draft fun.
Very true. Communication and Coordination doesnât even need any verbal interaction between the players in this game. Awareness of your surroundings accomplish this just as effectively after the game starts. During character select all the players need to know is the importance of team composition. Such knowledge not only benefit your teamates but also hurt your opponents in Versus Draft.
I know bots battle is full on ps4. I was playing this the last few nights even after midnight I get a 5 man team pretty quickly. Its not the same for missions or other co-op modes though as I was barely getting 1 other teammate for normal PvE missions at same time. However I think some are grinding the bots battles because I was seeing a lot of the same names in different matches.

Btw whatâs your profile pic? It feels very familiar
Well, itâs not dead yet. And youâre discussing how draft is. SoâŚ
They wanted to make counter picking more important. This was not the right way
I always play Orendi and Ambra and dabble in Marquis so honestly I probably look like I love counter picking against him
Draft should be private only or an event every few weeks (not as rare as others, like every other week)
Meltdown Finale should have bots on both teams spawn and then maybe should also only be private only if that doesnât help enough
Itâs the combination of tighter Elo plus a much smaller pool of players in the queue. This is what killed off Meltdown and Capture originally when they were separate, Elo-using queues. In Australia it got to the point that you could queue in Meltdown, walk away for an hour, and come back to find yourself still not having formed a team.
Unfortunately, there are even less players around now than there were back then, so thereâs no reason to believe Versus Draft wonât go to the same way. Itâs a vicious cycle though. Elo in this low-population game kills matchmaking times, but then a lack of Elo further drops the population numbers⌠iiick.
Maybe they should force all premades of 4 or 5 players, and maybe even 3 players, into draft. That might help increase the population there while simultaneously improving quick match by reducing the stompings there.
Tried solo playing last night. Couldnât really find a match, so I went into Quick Match. This is really just a population issue. The liveliness of a queue - at its core - is predicated upon player population and mode type.
Well now that Meltdown was transformed into just another 4 minute match mode like faceoff and capture, Incursion is the only mode people actually want to play, so of course now its not selectable anymore, which pissed off a LOT of people.
Its definitely like a desert in versus draft mode during the morning on Xbox but it gets better in the afternoon and night. Today alone I got a good amount of matches (most of them actually playing against or with RayLightning) though I still had to go to quick match after the first match cause I was a tiny bit salty over a beatrix and wanted to play capture or faceoff
Even if the queue time is a bit of a wait, the versus draft is a ton of fun and has breathed new life into this game for me.
This game mode had created interesting and unique team comps that I rarely (or never) encountered before. Iâm a huge fan of it.
But, all that aside⌠I must agree, wait times (on the xbox1) have definitely reached an all time high for me.
This is exactly what keeps me motivated to wait patiently for a match. 37 minutes is the longest it has taken me to find a match. That match ended on character select after 2 âteammatesâ decided to quit because their mains got bannedâŚfml)
